Publico is serif type family created by Christian Schwartz and Paul Barnes, first released in 2010. The typeface began its life as part of the redesign process for The Guardian in 2005, and eventually found its way to the Portuguese daily newspaper Público — which gave it its name. The Latin design is a contemporary text face that draws its origins from the canonical newspaper typeface Times New Roman. Similarly, the Hebrew design created by Fontef Studio is a contemporary, updated and refreshing homage to the timeless text typeface Frank-Rühl. True to its role as a workhorse meant to support the complex layout of a daily newspaper, the Publico family includes 38 styles in three optical sizes: Text, Headline, and Banner, as well as a Monospace style and matching Italics.

Acta Diurna, also called Acta Populi, Acta Publica, and simply Acta or Diurna, in ancient Rome was a sort of daily government gazette, containing an officially authorized narrative of noteworthy events at Rome. Its contents were partly official (court news, decrees of the Roman emperor, Roman Senate, and Roman magistrates), and partly private (notices of births, marriages, and deaths). Thus, to some extent it filled the place of the modern newspaper. The origin of the Acta is attributed to Julius Caesar, who first ordered the keeping and publishing of the acts of the people by public officers (59 B.C.; Suetonius, Caesar, 20). The Acta were drawn up from day to day, and exposed in a public place on a whitened board called an Album. After remaining there for a reasonable time they were taken down and preserved with other public documents, so that they might be available for purposes of research.

Acta Diurna (אקטה דיאורנה; לטינית: ״רשומות יומיות״) היו הודעות יומיומיות רשמיות מטעם המשטר הרומי, מעין עיתון שהיה חקוק על אבן או על מתכת ונתלה במקומות ציבוריים כדוגמת הפורום ברומא. ההודעות הראשונות פורסמו ברפובליקה הרומית בסביבות שנת 131 לפנה״ס, וכללו תוצאות של תהליכי משפט ופעולות הקשורות לחוק. מאוחר יותר הורחב תוכן ההודעות לעניינים שוליים וציבוריים יותר, כגון תאריכי לידה, פטירה ונישואין. בתום כמה ימים הורדו ההודעות ממקומן והוכנסו לארכיון. לעיתים, כאשר היה צורך ליידע את מושלי הפרובינציות, פקידים העתיקו את ה־Acta ושלחו אותן למושלים. בתקופה מאוחרת יותר הקיסרים השתמשו בהודעות הללו ככלי להעברת צווי הסנאט או הקיסרות. Acta נוספות נשאו תוכן צבאי ועירוני. Acta Senatus (״החלטות הסנאט״) הוסתרו לרוב מעיני הציבור והוטלה עליהן צנזורה עד אשר החליט יוליוס קיסר בשנת 59 לפנה״ס (בתפקיד הקונסול) לפרסם אותן. בסוף כל הודעה נכתב ”Publicare et Propagare“ (״לפרסם ולהפיץ״), כלומר, שהמידע הכתוב בהודעות ייוודע לכל אנשי רומא. הוצאת ה־Acta פסקה לאחר שמושב הקיסרות עבר לקונסטנטינופול.

Shorthand is an abbreviated symbolic writing method that increases speed and brevity of writing as compared to longhand, a more common method of writing a language. The process of writing in shorthand is called stenography, from the Greek stenos (narrow) and graphein (to write). It has also been called brachygraphy, from Greek brachys (short), and tachygraphy, from Greek tachys (swift, speedy), depending on whether compression or speed of writing is the goal. Many forms of shorthand exist. A typical shorthand system provides symbols or abbreviations for words and common phrases, which can allow someone well-trained in the system to write as quickly as people speak.
