NextExit
Next Exit is based on the typeface used in Israeli road signage. The original letterforms were developed by engineers from the Israeli Public Works Department in the 1950s, with the goal of creating simple, geometric and clean shapes, that would be easy and efficient to draw using rulers and compasses — and highly legible even from a distance. The process was influenced by the design of the Latin typeface DIN, which was developed in Germany in the 1930s under similar circumstances. The result was a geometric and straightforward font with a surprisingly friendly character. The Next Exit family includes both Hebrew and Latin, and comes in four weights, as well as a rounded style, for a slightly softened tone of voice.

Historically many roads were simply recognizable routes without any formal construction or some maintenance. The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) defines a road as “a line of communication (travelled way) using a stabilized base other than rails or air strips open to public traffic, primarily for the use of road motor vehicles running on their own wheels”, which includes “bridges, tunnels, supporting structures, junctions, crossings, interchanges, and toll roads, but not cycle paths”.
