Inktober ’25 – Rivals/Blast/Button

For this one I used a Pilot – FriXion Clicker 07 – black ink – erasable …and ooly Very Berry Strawberry scented gel pens in orange, black, & green for the cats and grass, and a little blue in the letters of the words Cat Rivals.

***

These two cats, one black, one orange look like they are having a fight.

***

***

And today’s is Blast

Drawing shows sticks of dynamite TNT and detonator box in red ink, and then the word blast, and the head of a person wearing sunglasses as they say ‘noooo’ when they see a nuclear blast cloud (in red) going up at a distance.

***

***

The next prompt was for ‘button’, so I drew a blue button with 4 holes and a needle & thread, and also a small panel you might see on an elevator with push button for up and down in red.

Kevin, at The Beginning At Last, has several AI pictures to choose from each week. I chose the large dark furred wolf with red glowing eyes to write about. This is my first time participating in this challenge. See more at the above link.

This is a painting I did many years ago of a gray wolf with yellow eyes and purple and yellow background.

Wolf Stand-off

Big Bad Wolf, “I’m the biggest, baddest wolf in the woods!”

Little Gray Wolf, “hahaha No you’re not. You are just a big artificial picture someone made up.”

Big Bad Wolf, “So what? You’re just an amateur painting someone did, by looking at a magazine picture.”

Little Gray Wolf, “Yeah, but at least a real person made me, not some robot who has no feelings. So nonnie nonnie boo hoo.”

Big Bad Wolf, “Wow, you are so immature with your put downs. I rule the woods – what do you rule – the wall you hang on?”

Little Gray Wolf, “Sure I do. And where are these imaginary woods you call home? I don’t see any woods, just some squiggly lines. Can’t your robot make trees?”

Big Bad Wolf, “I wanted to look mysterious and fierce.”

Little Gray Wolf, “I’ll give that point to you, you do look mean. Those red eyes … are they from crying or drinking too much?”

Big Bad Wolf, “You shut your mouth, pipsquesk! My red eyes are from my otherworldly power force. They can zap you!”

Little Gray Wolf, “oooh I’m so scared … not! Go on with your bad self – go home, or whatever dungeon you crawled out of.”

Big Bad Wolf, “That’s enough! I’ve had just about enough of your insults. I’m going, but beware of when we meet again.”

Little Gray Wolf, “See ya – wouldn’t want to be ya.”

They go their separate ways, both to live another day.

To Catch a Bird – Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge – Contemplate 🐈‍⬛

For Gerry and Sue’s …

Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge – Contemplate

🐈‍⬛

A wiki definition:

contemplate in American English · 1. to look at intently; gaze at · 2. to think about intently; study carefully · 3. to have in mind as a possibility or plan; …

I think this black and white cat was seriously contemplating how to carry out his plan on catching a bird.

🐈‍⬛

The black cat was on top of the bird feeder post, waiting for a bird to come by. The birds didn’t fall for his trick, so he got down, and came up to the porch. Looks like he’s asking why the birds didn’t come to him! Silly kitty. 🙂

… photos show the cat on top of a wooden post where we hung the bird feeder. He sits there, then walks across the top rail, then climbs down head first. Then he is on our back porch looking up at me as if to ask why his plan didn’t work. Or else he wanted a treat for his troubles. haha

I don’t know what was going on with the giant elephant statue on a trailer. We were driving down the road and I saw it in a parking lot, so took a quick photo. It turned out blurry, but still…not every day you see a random elephant!

***

Here we have a road runner bird, actually standing in the road.

***

Several different ducks swimming down the road in front of our house. We’d had a lot of rain, and the lake by our house overflowed and flooded everything. Our street was blocked off for days until the water receded. Meanwhile, the ducks had fun swimming in the road.

***

So, here we have two cats having a standoff in the street. One is black and the other looks like a Siamese. I saw them out the window at my daughter’s house, but they aren’t her cats. I could hear them yowling at each other, as they slowly circled around. I think they finally came to a decision, and both walked off very carefully.

These are some tulips I grew many years ago out in the front flower bed. Looks like most were red, but there is one yellow one. Also our cat Paolo was out there on the sidewalk.

Nature Photo Challenge #28: Wild animals

***

We don’t have any huge wild animals here, but I have photos of a few smaller ones. I know we have skunks, opossums, coyotes, and small deer, but I’ve never seen but one. It was a coyote running across the road as I was driving. My daughter saw a raccoon in the downtown area not long ago. I had no idea those were in this area. Of course there are birds, but I didn’t include those this time.

***

Here is a turtle we found in our front yard one day. He walked around awhile, then my husband took him down to the lake by our house.

Here’s a couple of prairie dogs. We have them everywhere, sometimes even in our yards. They’re cute I think.

We also have jackrabbits . These were in my aunt’s yard one day.

Maybe not a wild animal, but tarantula spiders are pretty wild I think.

We have snakes, but hardly ever see one. Just happened to see this one.

Fandango’s Flashback Friday — May 26th

Flashback Friday is so we can share an older post that may not have gotten many views in the past. I figure a post very near the exact date will be okay.

Here’s one I posted on May 25, 2017

1,001 HORSE NAMES – or NOT?

1,001 HORSE NAMES – or NOT?

Here I go with a big mistake…a story I’ve told many times over the years, and now I find I got it all wrong! I found evidence of the mistake just today.

The following story is my ‘presumed/remembered’ way it all happened. I even blogged about it on my other blog, on April 9, 2014. It was another entry for the A to Z Blog Challenge. Here’s what is wrong with this…I always just ‘knew’ I’d written down 1,001 Horse Names. However, looking in my scrapbook today for the actual papers, so I could take a photo, I found out I was wrong. It was only 1,000 names.  I also stated that Candy Spots was the first name. It wasn’t…not even close…it was 437! haha – I was shocked! Not a big deal, but still funny how my memory was off like that.

The photo says I did all these names in the summer of 1962, so I would have been eleven years old. I do remember diligently sticking with it all summer long. It was fun. 🙂

Here is the photo: Plus a couple of other drawings I did back then. Did I say I was obsessed with horses? 🙂

**Oh, wow…just noticed number 417 was Ghost! 🙂

1,001 HORSE NAMES

I’ve always loved horses. One summer, when I was ten years old, I believe, I started a big project. My grand idea was to make a list of 1,001 names of horses. I settled on that number, because the movie “101 Dalmations” was popular at the time, and I figured, why not go bigger than 101…I’d do 1,001!

All that summer, I worked on the list…name, after name, after name. Some names I’d just make up, some were of real race horses. My grandad liked to go to the horse races at Ruidoso Downs, in New Mexico. When he got back, he’d give me the racing form from his trip to the racetrack. I’d study all the particulars about the horses, and pick out the names I liked, to add to my list.

The very first horse name I wrote was “Candy Spots”, which was the name of a real race horse. I’d also draw pictures of horses to go with the list, since I loved to draw.

I actually still have that list, and I did make it all the way to 1,001! That was such a fun summer.

Salt and pepper shakers always go together as partners. I have quite a few I’ve collected, all in the novelty kind, which are usually cute.

Here are a couple of cats (just the faces), one yellow and one blue. They used to belong to my daughter, but she gave them to me.

These partners are funny … a dog relieving himself on a fire hydrant. A friend sent me these.

Throwback Thursday #4 – The Pets In My Life

***

This time we’re looking back at the pets we’ve had. Thanks Lauren & Maggie for hosting this fun prompt.

***

We don’t have any pets at the moment. We feed the cats outside that come around, though.

***

I’ve had pets of one kind or another since I was a little kid. Many, many pets. If I was to write about all of them on this one post, it would be pages long.

I’ve had dogs, cats, ducks, rabbits, gerbils, birds, hermit crabs, fish, and even a spider or two that weren’t exactly pets, but they hung around for a long time and I gave them a name.

***

We’ve had lots of cats too, over the years, but I’ve written about them quite a lot on here, so won’t this time.

***

It’s been quite a few years since we had any dogs here with us, but we used to have quite a few. Let me think if I can remember all the dogs I’ve had since I was a kid.

Cindy – King – Skipper – Troubles – Dusty – Stormy – Freckles – Ginger – Maggie – Bud – Bridget – Weasel – Sam

And, in my notebooks I’ve written about them all – their stories.

And, I have photos of every one of them (except Troubles).  Here’s me and Stormy. 🙂

This photo was taken in black & white, in the back yard in 1957. Stormy was just a mixed breed white and fluffy little dog, maybe part Cocker Spaniel? I’m standing on an old weathered door that was on the ground, and wearing a print dress, and my hair was fairly short.

***

A strange incident was a few years later my cousin & I were playing with the Ouija board. I asked would I get a dog?  It said yes. I asked when? It said January. (this was back in the fall). Sure enough, come January, I did get a puppy. I named him Dusty, and he was an awesome dog, who lived with us for many years. The photo shows Dusty, who was the same kind of dog that Stormy was, white & fluffy.

***

This was taken long ago, and is a picture of my little parakeet, named Igor. He was green and yellow.

We let him fly around all the time in the house. This photo is of him standing on one of our wine bottles that had candle wax of all colors melted down the side.

Igor was fun. We had him for quite a few years, and he could say his name, and also could say ‘Pretty Bird’.

We got him as a baby from a lady we knew who raised parakeets. She had lots of them. We’d gotten other ones from her, too.

Whenever we’d go on road trips, Igor would come along in his cage. He was a good traveler. 🙂

***

Here are some more of the dogs:

  • Ginger (tan & white Basset Hound)
  • Maggie (tan, white & black Basset Hound- Ginger’s mother)
  • Bud (all black maybe a Labrador but smaller)
  • Weasel (Maggie & Bud’s daughter)
