Three Things Challenge #MM151

Di says:

Your three words today are:
FEROCIOUS
PLACID
VIOLENT

“Precious! Precious!”

We lived across the street from a city park. Every day we heard a lady calling for Precious.

One day we were in the park at the same time as the lady, and so we asked her who was Precious. She said it was her little dog. She told how Precious was very placid, not violent, and liked to roam around the park. Her house was by the park too, and she’d let the dog out to walk around in the grass for a little while, but she didn’t want to come back when called. She said that’s the only time she’d get ferocious, when making her come back inside.

So now we knew who Precious was, but we actually never saw her dog. Hmmm. odd.

***

note: when I first saw these words for the challenge I read that one as precious, instead of ferocious. hee hee  … also this was a true story, not fiction. And now even many years later, if my daughters or I start hollering Precious! we all start laughing as we immediately know what that means. 🙂 and now I’m remembering the scene from the Lord of the Rings!

A strange incident was when my cousin & I were kids playing with the Ouija board. I asked would I get a dog?  It said yes. I asked when? It said January. (this was back in the fall). Sure enough, come January, I did get a puppy. I named him Dusty, and he was an awesome dog, who lived with us for many years. The photo shows Dusty, who was white & fluffy.

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Dec. 14, 2024

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “food.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Well now, this prompt is a very broad subject isn’t it. I wouldn’t even know where to start. I guess I did start though, since here I am typing some sentences. Anyway, I looked back at old posts I’ve done that mention food. hahahaha there were 45 pages worth. Some had photos, some were memories, some were poems, some were songs. So I just grabbed one that is this one.

Coloring page shows a brown puppy wearing a Santa hat. He has a blue bowl with a bone in it. It is a coloring page I did and a little Haiku  poem with a message.

Salt and pepper shakers always go together as partners. I have quite a few I’ve collected, all in the novelty kind, which are usually cute.

Here are a couple of cats (just the faces), one yellow and one blue. They used to belong to my daughter, but she gave them to me.

These partners are funny … a dog relieving himself on a fire hydrant. A friend sent me these.

If H20 is inside a fire hydrant, what’s on the outside?  … K9P

It’s that time again for the April A to Z Blog Challenge. I’ve done this one for quite a few years, and it’s always fun.

This time I decided to go with the miscellaneous type posts, which some days will be whatever I want, and other days will be a resurrection of my older posts that pretty much no one or very few ever saw.

So, here we go with Letter P …

PAINTING PICTURESDSC00040

I mentioned awhile back that I like to paint pictures. I’ve been drawing and painting forever it seems. I’d draw on most anything I could find…notebook paper, typing paper, the backs of old wallpaper rolls, butcher paper, manila paper, canvas, and even the walls in the house. (Yeah, got in trouble for that) 🙂 … My aunt would bring me reams of paper that was discontinued from her office…printed information on one side, blank on the other. Still have some of that around. Also, I have some of all my artwork from years gone by. I’ll be posting some occasionally.

Do you remember those drawing aptitude ads in magazines…draw this or that picture, and get a free analysis? I did that one time, when I was probably ten or eleven. It was a picture of Abraham Lincoln. I sent it in, and waited. Sure enough, I got a letter from the Art Institue, saying a representative would be visiting me. So the day came, and the man was very complimentary and wanted me to go to their school…but in a few years…as I wasn’t old enough at the time. Kind of good news, bad news…I was ready to go right then! 🙂

I’ve tried watercolors, and had a big easel I’d take out in the back yard, painting pictures of the dogs. I went through a horse phase after reading the “Black Stallion” series of books, and drew and colored a lot of those. Then I started in on acrylics. I’d tried oils, but I’m too impatient to wait on the drying time, so acrylics were just right.

I like doing pictures of animals the best. I’ve tried sketching portraits…they are not good, and scenery and still life just don’t grab me and make me want to paint them. So, animals, whether a real likeness, or more in the cartoon style, is what I like to do. Once I even entered a couple in the local fair. I didn’t win a ribbon, but hey, people saw my work!

I also like painting on rocks. Back in the day when ‘pet rocks’ were a fad, I painted my own. Lots of fun to see how they turn out, and I still do those sometimes… putting the word Peace and a peace sign on them.

Anyway, just wanted to keep my promise of posting some of the paintings I’ve done. Hope you enjoy them!DSC00041

Scenes of Favorite Days # 4 – Ice Tree

***

Is it just me, or is this a very slow Monday?

The only thing interesting thing going on is we’re kind of waiting around for the snow to start later on today, and all day tomorrow. We do have a stew simmering on the stove for supper, though.

Anyway, here’s one more of my favorite days from quite a few years ago. Could be another like it this time around, too.

Ice tree and lightning – One winter, late in the night it was very cold and snowing. The dogs wanted to go out, which was normal for them every night about this time. No one else was up, just me and the dogs. I let them outside in the back yard, and made myself a cup of coffee.

As was my habit, too, I got my writing notebook and started writing. It’s a favorite time of mine to write – waiting for the dogs in the middle of the night. It was very dark out, the ground was covered in snow, and the tree was coated with so much ice on the branches, that it was bent over, sort of making a tunnel as they reached the ground. My dogs came walking through the tunnel of ice and snow.

The thing that made this night so beautiful though, was it was thundering and lightning like crazy. Every flash of the lightning made the ice and snow look like silver in the dark of night. Just so pretty to see that.

The photo shows our dog Weasel (RIP), walking under the ice tree tunnel the next morning. Still a pretty sight.
