Mystery of the Missing Tree

***

For all the years we have lived here, when I look out our kitchen window to the back yard, I see the fence and the house behind ours. They have a tree in their front yard, and we see the tall top of it in all seasons. Below is a picture of it.

6. Golden glow time of day? Tree branches bare of leaves, but lots of black grackle birds sitting on the top. This tree is the one I see out our back windows. It belongs to neighbors behind us.

Now, a couple of days ago, I looked out and …. where is the tree??? I stared for a few minutes, thinking I was imagining it not there, but it really is gone. Just gone away. I like seeing it in all seasons, and it is/was nicely turning green with new leaves the other day. The wind has not been strong enough to blow it down either. So, what happened to it? Did the people just decide they didn’t like it any more? I feel sorry for the birds, because it was their evening roosting place. I’d see them fly in to the top branches about the same time every evening. You could almost set your clock by them.

Oh well, it is a mystery. I miss seeing that tree.

Nature Photo Challenge #22: Tree bark

Looking way up at the gnarly bark on a tall tree trunk.

This is part of our big fruitless Mulberry tree in our front yard, showing some of the bark. I hung the metal wind chime on a branch many years ago. It is metal, with bells, and the word Love spelled out on top. It has been there so long the tree has grown around the hanger part of the chime. Guess it’s our love tree. 🙂

Tourmaline .’s Halloween Challenge – Forest

***

We don’t have any forests around here, but I’ve been to or through three in the past.

My family took a vacation in 1970 to Red River, New Mexico. It is located in the Carson National Forest. We stayed in a cabin by a river, deep in the trees. First time I’d ever seen so many trees. We stayed a week, seeing the sights, riding the ski lift, and carving our names into the trunks of the Aspen trees.

The next forest I’ve been to is the Pineywoods which is a forest, of East Texas, over by Texarkana. My in-laws lived there, and we’d go driving around and walking around among the trees. I got poison ivy on my feet one time. Not fun, but I marveled at all the tall pine trees.

The other forest I’ve been through is the (Washita) Ouachita National Forest, which is in the Texas/Oklahoma area. We drove through this beautiful place, along many steep and switchback roads.

Can you count the trees on the full length photo? There are 4! I think they represent the four seasons of winter, autumn, spring, and summer. 🙂

This is a real pretty appliqued  fabric. It has a blue house, and blue sky, and lots of other details. There are clouds, other houses, cows, ladies in bright skirts, and trees.

I don’t really know what you’d call this. Maybe a wall hanging, or maybe a table runner? It’s about 3 feet long and one foot wide. I got it at a yard sale one time. There was a little tag on it that said it was hand crafted in some island country. Sorry I can’t find the tag today. I still have it somewhere.

I decorate this little bitty tree for Halloween every year. I put little spooky ornaments of orange and black, and also a string of lights shaped like ghosts! The tree is about two feet tall or less, and I decorate it for Christmas in December, too.

Multi-colored cloths hanging from tree branch, plus other Halloween decorations like skeletons (for Dia de los Muertos ) These were seen at a local park one year for a celebration.

This is our front yard tree – a fruitless Mulberry. It’s really big, and the leaves turn yellow in the fall. Underneath is a weathered wooden bench our neighbor built for us many years ago.

And this other photo is many years ago when our cat Paolo climbed up there. All the cats around here love the climbing tree. 🙂

One year my daughter and I were in Austin TX and visited the capitol building. It was decorated for Christmas, and in one room was this giant Christmas tree with lots of pretty ornaments.

This was our little Christmas tree, Charlie, one year. We had Charlie (yes we named our tree) for many years and had all kinds of different theme decorations.

This time we’d decided on a rock ‘n roll theme. We found cardboard decorations at a party store for a juke box, records, a fun car, and malt shop items which we hung up. The tree had pink sunglasses on top, and 50s type ornaments.  I also made black poodle dogs out of felt to put on the pink sheet the tree table had for the base. It was fun!
