Nature Photo Challenge #28: Wild animals

***

We don’t have any huge wild animals here, but I have photos of a few smaller ones. I know we have skunks, opossums, coyotes, and small deer, but I’ve never seen but one. It was a coyote running across the road as I was driving. My daughter saw a raccoon in the downtown area not long ago. I had no idea those were in this area. Of course there are birds, but I didn’t include those this time.

Here is a turtle we found in our front yard one day. He walked around awhile, then my husband took him down to the lake by our house.

Here’s a couple of prairie dogs. We have them everywhere, sometimes even in our yards. They’re cute I think.

We also have jackrabbits . These were in my aunt’s yard one day.

Maybe not a wild animal, but tarantula spiders are pretty wild I think.

We have snakes, but hardly ever see one. Just happened to see this one.

Turtle, Roof, & Power Outage or random post # ?

Turtle, Roof, & Power Outage

or random post # ?

***

For awhile I was doing some random posts and had them numbered. I forgot what number I was on, though.

Back on June 21st we looked out in the front yard and saw this cute little turtle. Of course I had to take his picture. He looks almost like the box turtle we used to have named Herbie. The kitties, Wow Wow and Wee Wow sure were interested in this turtle. 🙂

Then the mister took him back down to the lake. Guess he stayed there. He was a fast little guy. When I was taking his photo he was walking so fast I could barely keep up with him.

It was the same day I think that our power went out for awhile during the day. A couple of times, one for a short time, then again for an hour or so. The utility company here has been working on replacing power poles and such down the road, so every once in awhile it interrupts a section of our neighborhood. We never know when it will happen, but wish they’d hurry up and finish with their project.

We should be getting a new roof pretty soon. That last wind storm really did tear a lot of shingles off our roof, and we’ve never had a new one since we’ve lived here, and that’s been over 20 years. Our insurance company and the roofing company are still working out details. Meanwhile they came and put plastic over the bare parts of our roof. That wind storm was awful – wind speeds at 70 mph! That was on June 4th.

That storm also blew down a couple of trees across from us, plus their fence. They’ve since cleared it all, and put up a new fence.

And that’s how the month of June has gone. 🙂

Here’s just three coloring pages I’ve done recently.

A turtle

Swans on some water with green reeds

A large colorful lizard

***

I used mostly gel pens, some Sharpie fine point markers, and a few regular colored pencils on these.

Click on photo to enlarge and see them close up. 🙂
