Bring me the males…said the Mantis, chuckling softly.

Google:
He wants to keep her happy because ~25% of the time, females eat the heads of the males after mating! While the male doesn’t survive for long, he can finish the mating process without a head. Praying mantises are cannibalistic throughout their lives.

(I have many questions about the planet on which we live.  Most things are completely insane.)

Carpenter bees…

A bee pollinating a purple flower

carpenter bees
are wonderful
big and chubby
they just hang in the air
with a guard always
outside the entrance
to their living quarters
they love wood
I hope some are still living
in my garage this summer
they were all over the place
they don’t attack
don’t sting
they are simply busy
and doing their own thing
no one should kill carpenter bees
they don’t bother anyone
and do a great job
pollinating flowers
they may bore a hole
in the wood on
or around your house
but it’s not a big deal
and they are kind
and lovely bees
it is not recommended
that they be harmed
so yay for that
anyway
I’ve had some live here
for years
but they aren’t like regular bees
who have a hive
they are solitary
and all kind of split up
to winter where they can
so that’s it
be nice to all bees
but watch for the
big beautiful carpenter bees
who help to make the world
more colorful
and healthy place

Mantis…

A praying mantis hanging around your house is generally considered a positive sign, though interpretations vary across cultures. Many cultures see it as a symbol of good luck, peace, or even divine protection. Some interpretations suggest it could be a message to slow down, be still, and meditate.  (Google)

They can bite but rarely do.  Only if they are threatened or mishandled by humans.  They don’t actually like to be around us, which to me, shows a high level of intelligence.  They aren’t aggressive toward humans.  We, on the other hand are aggressive to every living thing.  Even if one is bitten (unlikely) it is not dangerous in any way.

But here’s the thing:

Yes, praying mantises can and sometimes do eat hummingbirdsWhile they are primarily insectivores, praying mantises are opportunistic predators and will attack and consume birds, especially hummingbirds, when the opportunity arises. The Chinese mantis, known for its larger size, is particularly capable of taking down hummingbirds, according to Newsweek.
So, you might want to think twice about how nice it is to have them around.

supposedly
the mantis aliens
are running the show
people have met them
some have known a mantis
alien since childhood
seems strange
that the aliens everyone thinks of
as the worst of them
are the aliens in charge
but there you have it
I think the aliens are green
but I’m not sure
not to be mean
or anything
but I’m not in a hurry
to meet any of them
just sayin’

I love these guys…

so pretty
and I do pet them
they might hate it
but I only pet them
for a minute
in case they like it
they’re probably dangerous
to plants and crops
but I don’t look that up
because I just want to pretend
that they are lovely friends
denial is a wonderful thing
sometimes
this is a dovetail
but it sure looks as if
it has tiger stripes

Amazing…the true definition.

Free Dragonfly Insect photo and picture

this photo
is the definition of
amazing
a dragonfly
who would devour us
if he was bigger
sits on the buds of a flower
his wings
so delicate
and fragile looking
the buds wrapped tightly
but still petal soft
the dragon’s entire body
something no one
could have dreamed of
and that’s why
this photo
is amazing
