KILLERS OF A CERTAIN AGE…a book review of sorts.

this is the first book
in the series
which I had to read
after reading he second book
first
the four female assassins
are great characters
who have killed together
for 40 years
the book tells bits of their beginnings
as well as a more
of their current lives
they are incredibly skilled
seemingly normal women
who murder people for a living
but work within the rules
set up by the Museum
the Museum is an organization
made up of people from many countries
and came into existence
in order to hunt down
and kill Nazi’s who escaped
after the war
later they also turned to assassinating
sex traffickers
heads of cartels
arms dealers
and a host of others
the books are fun
inventive
exciting
filled with travel
planing
and of course
killing
the four women
are a great team
brave
daring
determined
and completely loyal to each other
sadly
there is no chicken in this book
but there is a cat

Jurassic Park…a kind of review

Jurassic Park: A Novel

I finished Jurassic Park
earlier today
the difference between
the book and the movie
isn’t that dramatic
certain things are simply drawn out
in the book
more and different people get killed
as for the children
the boy is older and the hero
his little sister
a truly annoying spoiled brat
whose behavior
is supposed to bring tension to the story
sure she’s young and terrified
but there is no excuse for the way she acts
and the author made she no one got killed
because of her
the story drags far too much
getting lost after the T-Rex attack
and the LONG seemingly never ending journey
trying to get back to safety
takes up much of the last half of the book
people get lost more often than one would think
in this story
too much running through the jungle
hiding and doing things no sane person
would ever do
like going outside for a walk
knowing that vicious animals are on the lose
and there are many conversations
about how the park is run
and the DANGERS that are OBVIOUS
but constantly ignored
danger vs Theme Park/money
conflicts about
the genetic make up of the animals
safety features and whether or not
the park would ever become a reality
political and philosophical points of view
were also made
(which made perfect sense)
anyway
the slow parts
made me want to start
skimming
basically
the park is the dream
and money making scheme
of a rich old and unstable man
who actually doesn’t care about anyone
other than himself
and the entire time I was reading
every character in the book
looked exactly like the actors
in the movie
I mean who doesn’t love Jeff Goldbum
perhaps the book would be more exciting
for someone who never saw the movie
or perhaps as readers
we have moved on
it might be a little of both
but I think the movie is
far better than the book
in the movie
the girl is the hero
her brother is a normal kid
and everything takes a lot less time

OUT LAW…A novella from the Dresden Files

Okay, so
I went to a different
Barnes & Nobel’s today
and picked up four more books
for my grandson
and this book
for me
since I’m a huge fan
of the DRESDEN FILES
and if you are too
you should probably get this one
(got the first book in the series for my grandson)
anyway
I came home and started blogging
but decided to have lunch
and then read this book
so that’s what I did
it’s only about 200 pages
and it was excellent
as all of his books are
hate this cover so much
but that’s the Chicago skyline
in the background
since all the books
take place in Chicago
other than the yucky cover
it was just short, tense and sweet
and keeps fans in touch
until book 19 comes out
in a thousand years
ack
write faster Mr. Butcher
write faster

Jurassic Park…

Jurassic Park: A Novel

okay
so I just started reading
JURASSIC PARK
I recently heard a few people
say the book is so different
than the film
and I have no idea why I care
but apparently
I care enough to read the book
the film was scary
and I’m sure the book is worse
so I may never finish it
but who knows
anyway
I picked up a couple other books
today
and I’m suddenly
ready to read day and night
I’ll let you know how the raptors
and T-Rex
turn out

Okay, just finished this book…a review of sorts

a review on the back cover says:
“a witty and engaging, and highly entertaining read
that’s hard to put down.  Think Golden Girls meets Charlie’s Angels.”
NO don’t think that at all
these are hard core assassins
who work for an organization called
The Museum
four women who worked together killing people
when they were young
then kind of retired for a couple of years
and are now pretty much close to 60 years of age
but are called back into action
in an “off the records” hit
and
of course
they all show up
happy to see each other again
they missed their job
for the most part
and got right to work
with little to go on
they plan the assassination
or should I say the first one
there are some graphic descriptions
of murdering people
hence the corkscrew on the cover
but they only kill people
who needed to be taken out
the women all have their specialities
but work together as a team
time hasn’t changed anything
other than their age
and there’s a chicken
but that’s later in the book
there’s planning
for the hits
which grown into a much bigger
assignment
and a lot more dead bodies
than they expected
this is the second book
in the series
the author wrote it
because people asked for it
I didn’t read the first book
and I don’t think I missed anything at all
I liked the women
they were completely invested in what they did
“necessary monsters”
they called themselves
but the humor
if that’s what you can call it
comes from the friendship
between the women
who bicker and plan
and would die for each other
think of it as having really good girlfriends
who just kill people
for work
they also eat very well
the book was definitely not what I expected
but let’s just say I’m not sorry I read it
would I read a third book if there was one
probably
since I kind of know the women now
and I’d want to fine out who they’d kill next

Kind of a book review…

Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter

slow
characters not engaging
no chemistry
not enough background
mostly boring
no real tension
the cats were nice

Yuk…about this book…

I do NOT read these kinds of books.  But this one was getting good reviews and it was supposedly about Christmas so, I thought it might be fun.  I took a chance.

If I could give it minus stars I would.

Horrible book

You knew what was going to happen from the very beginning.

He’s a ghost who hates his job, working one day a year.

She’s a woman with no backbone, other than the one he keeps touching.   She’s a doormat, just wanting to be loved.   She’s needy, which is so unattractive to me as a reader.  Another woman waiting to be rescued/loved.

There are a couple of R rated sex scenes that are completely unnecessary.  It seems as if the author just stuck them in there to take up space.  They are graphic and, in my opinion, do not fit the characters at all.

Her mother is a cold bitch, naturally, that’s why her daughter is hungry for love.  Let’s blame another mother, right?  Her father was not blamed for being cold or never there.  No one blamed dear old dad for anything.  Just same old, same old.  Blah.

Oh, and let’s not leave out the fact that she inherited her antique shop from her aunt.  Her aunt, who was her mother’s sister.  A sister she resented because she was nice.  OMG

I skimmed thorough most of the book, then I literally threw it in the garbage.

Since up until now, I haven’t read this kind of book, maybe they’re all like this, I honestly don’t know.  I do know that will never read another one.  The people who loved this book would most likely hate the books I read, where women are strong, tough and kick ass.  And they don’t blame their mother’s for anything.
