BREAKING ALL SOULS – (FIRST WORDS)

IMG_3130 IMG_3131

This one is from 2015, when I thought I’d try something a little different.  I’ve done a few more since then.  … I’ve seen similar, but haven’t tried doing it before. What I did, was take a bunch of books that I have stacked up, take a photo, and try to make some kind of poem out of the first word or two from the titles of them. This is what I came up with. 🙂 It was pretty interesting, and fun to do. I’ll probably try it again sometime.

***

BREAKING ALL SOULS

The original haunted American desert has gone wild

Breaking all souls into ashes, where

I am a stranger, a sleeping holy ghost

You don’t hold the reckless midnight storm, the biting lover, the darker shades…

I’ll kiss the memory

Odd Poem October – Skulls

***

SKULLS

Skulls are awesome

Skulls are cool

If you didn’t have one

Your brains would pool…

Skulls with jewels

Skulls with flowers

Skulls give meaning to sacred powers

Skulls underneath

Your skin of flesh

Your mind encased

To keep it fresh…

No skull to hold

Your brain inside

Nowhere for all

Your thoughts to hide…

Oozing goo all down your neck,

I’m telling you now,

You’d look a wreck…

So skulls are useful

Skulls are good

Would you want to see yours,

If you could?

Odd little list

Odd little list

***

From time to time we’ve noticed our grocery store list kind of has one stand out letter that starts the items. It’s unintentional, just the way it happens that we need these things. But they come in groups, like today’s is the letter B. We have on the list so far …

Beer, bananas, batteries, birthday card (for grand-daughter), proBiotics,  and the outlier … mouse traps.

Some days it’s a different letter that shows up. haha

Simply Red Squares – Odd Mannequins

For Becky’s challenge:

Red Hints and Reflections

It’s time for the Square challenge again! This time the prompt is anything Red, and the only rule is the photo you use Must be Square! It’s a lot of fun to see what everyone comes up with. 🙂

Here’s a couple more funny mannequins I saw at that shop in the DFW airport. These are a longhorned steer and a cow, standing upright dressed  in jeans and T-shirts of red, white, and  blue and the words Texas, and Don’t Mess With Texas.

Writer’s Workshop – An Odd Mystery

The link below is where you find several prompt questions and other instructions

For John’s challenge:

This Week’s Writer’s Workshop Prompts – December 5, 2024

***

  1. Write a post based on the word distance.
  2. Write a post in exactly 8 sentences.
  3. Write a letter to Santa Claus, telling him whether you’ve been good or bad and what you want him to bring you for Christmas.
  4. Tell us about something you learned in November.
  5. After New Year’s Day, there are two months (or almost three, depending on how you count them) left of winter. What do you plan on doing to pass the time until spring?
  6. List the worst pieces of advice you have ever received.

***

As for the prompts this time, no ideas come to me, so I’m going with #2 – write a post in 8 sentences. I suppose that can be on any subject? So, okay.

1. We still use those paper calendars that you hang on the wall each year with the pretty pictures.

2. This year I had one by my computer desk that had cute kittens on it.

3. I have another small calendar to set on the desk (or beside it) that has kittens on it too.

4. So every month I turn the page to the next month, and go awww at the cute picture.

5. It is now time for the December page, and wait a minute … something is wrong! ?

6. I look at all the little day squares and one is missing.

7. December 25 is gone … there is a hole in the page, partly semicircle cut, and the rest is just raggedly torn.

8. Why is there a hole, why is Christmas Day just gone, and the biggest question is WHAT DOES IT MEAN???!!!

***

I took a photo of the hole in the page (I did put a post it note paper behind it because that empty space just looked so wrong. If you want to, let me know what your best guess is as to why this happened.  🙂

Here’s the photo: December calendar page with  missing 25th (there’s a shadow on the edge though)

I don’t know what these green plants are, but the pink containers are pretty funny looking. The rounded base where the spiky green leaves are poking out, and then this really tall, thin top part. Very strange. haha 🙂

Okay – since the last time I posted these someone said the plants are Air Plants!

Flower of the Day – Frankenstein

This plant is sometimes referred to as Frankenstein. It’s actually a Coral Cactus, aka Candelabra. It’s a grafted cactus and a succulent together. The shape of the upper part is fan-like and has a pink ruffle at the top and pink spikes. I saw this at a store one day. Oh, all parts are toxic, even if you just stick yourself with a spine.

Odd Old Games – Mumblety Peg

Odd Old Games – Mumblety Peg

I was just thinking about old and odd games people would play. This one came to mind for some reason.

Mumblety Peg. This is a game using pocket knives. It is played outside so you can throw the knife to stick in the ground. There are different tricks in throwing it, and other rules I think.

I’d say boys played it, as I doubt girls would even want to. It’s kind of dangerous as you might get stuck.

Anyway, I remember my Dad and Gran-dad playing it a lot of times. Looked like they were having fun.

My grand-son’s Cub Scout belt with badges from long ago. Shows a pocket knife partially open (among other ones)

I don’t know if he learned to play this knife game or not.

Evidently though, boy scouts were playing this game many years ago too, as this little old picture shows a group of them doing so.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumblety-peg

Mumblety-peg (also known as mumbley-peg, mumbly-peg,[1] mumblepeg, mumble-the-peg, mumbledepeg or mumble-de-peg) is an old outdoor game played using pocketknives.[2] The term “mumblety-peg” came from the practice of putting a peg of about 2 to 3 in (5 to 8 cm) into the ground. The loser of the game had to take it out with his teeth.

***

I doubt the rules to play Mumblety Peg was in this handbook.

Here’s my Dad’s well-worn Boy Scout Handbook.

This little vase is cute, and unusual. I like it!  There is some kind of plant/flower with long pink spidery petals. The vase looks like a clear light bulb with pink colored water. 🙂
