SOCS – calendar

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS March 22, 2025

***

I wrote a post about calendars awhile back, if you want to read that here

Otherwise, I like calendars a lot. I like the pretty or cute pictures on the paper calendars. We usually have several in the house, such as above my computer desk, and a couple in the kitchen, and bedrooms and bathrooms. Some we write appointments on or birthday’s to remember. Mostly though we just check what day it is and see the cute picture – usually of a cat or dog, or birds. Some calendars are real fancy and cost a lot, and others are totally free ones. We get some for Christmas gifts, too. I know there is a calendar on the phone, but I never remember to use that.

Writer’s Workshop – An Odd Mystery

The link below is where you find several prompt questions and other instructions

For John’s challenge:

This Week’s Writer’s Workshop Prompts – December 5, 2024

***

  1. Write a post based on the word distance.
  2. Write a post in exactly 8 sentences.
  3. Write a letter to Santa Claus, telling him whether you’ve been good or bad and what you want him to bring you for Christmas.
  4. Tell us about something you learned in November.
  5. After New Year’s Day, there are two months (or almost three, depending on how you count them) left of winter. What do you plan on doing to pass the time until spring?
  6. List the worst pieces of advice you have ever received.

***

As for the prompts this time, no ideas come to me, so I’m going with #2 – write a post in 8 sentences. I suppose that can be on any subject? So, okay.

1. We still use those paper calendars that you hang on the wall each year with the pretty pictures.

2. This year I had one by my computer desk that had cute kittens on it.

3. I have another small calendar to set on the desk (or beside it) that has kittens on it too.

4. So every month I turn the page to the next month, and go awww at the cute picture.

5. It is now time for the December page, and wait a minute … something is wrong! ?

6. I look at all the little day squares and one is missing.

7. December 25 is gone … there is a hole in the page, partly semicircle cut, and the rest is just raggedly torn.

8. Why is there a hole, why is Christmas Day just gone, and the biggest question is WHAT DOES IT MEAN???!!!

***

I took a photo of the hole in the page (I did put a post it note paper behind it because that empty space just looked so wrong. If you want to, let me know what your best guess is as to why this happened.  🙂

Here’s the photo: December calendar page with  missing 25th (there’s a shadow on the edge though)

Just Jot It January # 30 – Calendar

Just Jot It January # 30 – Calendar

Daily Prompt – JusJoJan the 30th, 2024

***

We like calendars, the paper kind with pretty pictures that you can hang up. Every year we buy several to have around the house. We have two in the kitchen, one in each bedroom, and one in each bathroom. I also have one … no two, right here by my computer desk. One on the shelf and one hanging up.

We bought some, we got some for Christmas gifts, and one was a free one from our mechanic’s place.

My Mr. writes in the squares any appointments we have. Well, mostly his, because I can’t reach that one. My appointment cards stay on the microwave top so I know I’ll be reminded of them.

Sometimes I remember to change the month right on time, but sometimes it will be the middle of the month before I suddenly remember to do that.

We mostly like the calendars to be pictures of animals … cats, dogs, horses, birds. There are a few other kinds, like we have had ferrets, and hedgehogs. Last year was “I Love Lucy” TV show pictures. I’ve had skeletons, and poetry ones, too. There have been golf funnies, flowers, and fairy houses, and also those desk ones with jokes you read and tear off each day.

Here’s a post I did about calendars a long time ago. Calendar Craze

Only one more day for the Just Jot It January challenge. It’s been fun, and I thank everyone who came to visit and like and comment this month. Much appreciated. ❤

Cats – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Any Picture

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS June 11, 2022

***

Today’s SOCS prompt is to find any nearby picture and say something about it. Thanks, Linda!

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “a picture from wherever.” When you sit down to write your post, find a picture, whether in a magazine, newspaper, or even product packaging. Write whatever thought or emotion the picture provokes. Enjoy!

I only have two pictures near my desk here. One is a calendar with a fun picture of a couple of squirrels in a set up deal. They are by a small wading pool on a deck, with lawn chairs and a table. The squirrels are sitting in the chairs and having a snack from the table.

All I have to say about that is it’s really cute, and we don’t have any real squirrels living near our house. I like them, though.

The other picture is a birthday card of mine, from last November. It’s from my husband, even though he forgot to sign it (haha). The card is mostly blue, and has lots of kitty cats leaping and jumping around on some furniture. It’s one of those pop-up kind of cards where when you open it the cats pop up. The front of the card has one cat swinging from a ceiling lamp and says, ‘Birthdays are like cats’. The inside says ‘the more you have, the more likely it is your house will smell funny – hope it’s meow-velous!’. So funny!

I almost always get funny cat cards from everyone. They know what I like!

You may think it’s strange to still have a long past birthday card up on the shelf. It’s not to me, as I always leave cards up for a long time, as I enjoy looking at them. There’s still a Valentine’s card up there too, from my grand-daughter.

Anyway, that’s about it for this time.

Hope your weekend is going good! 🙂

MY JANUARY 1ST SO FAR

Standard

Here’s how my first day of January of the new year of 2017 has started out…and it’s not quite noon here.

Sniffling through the 3rd cold I’ve had lately, with all the yucky symptoms.

Sleepy and exhausted from all the symptoms.

Spent some time staring at my fingernails. I need to re-paint them, as the manicure I got over Christmas has bit the dust.

Hit the wrong button on phone, which posted a bunch of photos accidentally, then had to fix that by trashing it all.

Broke computer yesterday. Got frustrated that the thing freezes up so much, so I kept punching the on/off switch until it completely broke apart. Just lucky I can still use it, by finagling another way.

Got some of my posts drafted yesterday, so not much work to do on them today. Yay!

It’s 55 and sunny outside, so that’s nice.

Got all new calendars put up …kittens in the kitchen, birds in a bedroom, fairy houses in bathroom, and my favorite is right in front of me at my desk here. It’s a Lisa Frank artwork calendar, and is so cute! 🙂 See…here it is!

Anyway, hope the rest of the day goes along ok.

I need to get some black-eyed peas to eat, though, as it is a new year’s tradition here. Not sure why, but maybe for luck in the year to come?

Hope your day has been easy and peaceful. Wishing you all the best in 2017! 🙂
