SOCS – Water

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS June 22, 2024

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “water.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Water … what can I say about water? I drink it, cook with it, wash with it, it’s either cold, hot, or warm … it’s a liquid.

My favorite way to have water is in the form of ice. I drink plenty of water, with ice, and we have iced tea all day long, made with water and ice to make it cold.

I used to swim in a pool when I was a kid. I wouldn’t now. I’ve never swam in a lake or river or ocean, and I never ever would. First of all there would be fish in there, and I hate fish, plus you know what fish do in the water? Yeah, you do. Ick! Ick! Ick!

I like rain water. Rain is refreshing after our hot dry and dusty days here. We sometimes just go stand out in the rain.

I’m glad our houses have running water. It seems like it would have been very hard to have to pump water or haul water back in the old days.

But we did haul water a lot, in the very recent past. Where we lived, the water was so horrible tasting and smelling and bad that everyone we knew would drive 5 miles to another place where we could fill up jugs with water to take home. (this was before there were water mill places on every corner like now)

And, now we mostly buy bottled water to drink, but use tap water for everything else.

I saw this round blue metal street cap thing in Kansas City Missouri, I don’t know what it is called, but it is embossed with KCMO Water, and has a symbol of a water spout fountain. I think it is so workers can get under the street to work on water pipes.

Striking – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Directions

Striking – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – Directions

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS May 2/2020

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “directions.” Find a household cleaner/bottle of shampoo/something in the freezer/anything you can find with instructions on it, then copy down a single direction (just one) on how to use/cook/etc. your chosen thing, and make it the first line or word of your post. Then keep writing whatever comes out. Have fun!

***

For today’s SOCS we are to look around the house to find an item with instructions or directions on how to use the item. Then take one line from that and write something. Thanks for the fun prompt, Linda!

To join in, and also see other entries, just click the above link. It’s fun! 🙂

Close cover before striking.

That’s probably a good idea if you are striking something. If it has a cover, then please close it before hitting it. That way when it shatters, the little pieces won’t fly around everywhere. It could hit your face, or eyes, or fall on the floor where you’ll slip and fall.

I’m thinking of what I strike around here. I strike a big block of ice all the time. I freeze water in big blocks, then pound/strike it with a meat pounder thing real hard a bunch of times. Then I have crushed ice.

I put the block of ice in a plastic zipper bag, and zip it closed first. Maybe not a ‘cover’, but I do close it so the pieces won’t fly out and strike me! It’s actually fun to strike the ice – bam bam bam – it’s loud! 🙂

I got the instruction/direction for the prompt from a little book of matches. That was the only directions besides don’t give to children. I don’t use matches very often, though.

Hope y’all are having a great Saturday! It’s hot here – it was 101 degrees yesterday, and will be around the same today.

Our penultimate spiky square

Today’s photo is of spiky ice formations.

I make tea for drinking iced tea later in the day, and put it in an old Mr. Coffee glass pot. I put it in the refrigerator. Then, I notice sometimes that ice has formed on the top of the liquid. It looked pretty interesting, so I took some photos, then zoomed it in closer.

I think the ice makes some really pretty designs, which looks pointy and spiky. 🙂

Here’s my entry for Cee’s B & W Photo Challenge with the subject of ‘water’.

What we have here is a box of water. I freeze water to make ice in these plastic boxes. Then the next picture, is the frozen water, all chunked up (I use an ice pick).

Next is a river in Missouri, as seen from the window of a plane as we flew over it.

Last, are some bottles of sparkling, flavored water. These were on the shelf at the grocery store.

I found apples, stacked rocks with shadows, ice covered tree branches, a pink sock, and doves, porch, stepping stones, raindrops, and pet dishes, all in shades of gray.

This week for our photo challenge, it is freezing rain. Last week was fog. I didn’t have a fog photo, and not sure this is freezing rain, but this is what happens after the freezing rain. Ice covers everything! 🙂
