The Flower Hour #21: Magnolia Tree Blossoms

***’

Here are some  photos of springtime flowers and blossoms I’ve taken in the past. All were posted before in the month of March.

In the springtime this is our view across the street. Wonderful pink lilacs and they smell so good.

It’s Spring, and trees all over are showing their white blossoms.

Many years ago I grew some tulips in the front flower bed. They turned out to be all red, except one yellow one. Our cat Paolo was standing on the sidewalk beside them.

***

And who doesn’t know the pretty little yellow flower called Dandelion! One of the first to appear in the spring. I may be called a weed, but it is still a welcome color in springtime to me. 🙂

Flower of the Day – Delicate Baby’s Breath

Flower of the Day – Delicate Baby’s Breath

***

Baby’s Breath flowers, whose scientific name is Gypsophila, are a member of the carnation flower family. They are used in many floral arrangements.

This photo shows a large bunch of the white flowers. They are very tiny, so look good in a large amount.

I wondered why they are called Baby’s Breath. It seems it is because they have a very delicate color, mostly white, but sometimes pink or yellow, and also it represents the innocence of babies.

Flower of the Day – White Lily

Flower of the Day – White Lily

***

I was wondering what those stem things in the middle of the lily were called.

From a Wiki article:

In the middle of every lily, there is a stamen comprised of 6 filaments and a central pistil. On top of each of the 6 filaments, there in a small, brown, vanilla bean shaped pollen pod called an anther.

Flower of the Day – Artificial Orchids

These white Orchid flowers were some of the pretty decorations in an optometrist’s waiting room. They are artificial ones, but look so real.

Flower of the Day – Star of Bethlehem

***

These are medium tall white flowers on green stems.

From a Wiki article:

Over the holidays, you may have seen the Star of Bethlehem, Ornithogalum umbellatum, in many Christmas floral arrangements. Its name alone signifies its meaning in regards to the holiday season. This flower is often used in religious ceremonies symbolizing innocence, purity, honesty, hope and forgiveness.

  • The Star of Bethlehem is a winter bulb and belongs to the lily family.
