# 1. Winter … I’m not a fan of winter or cold weather or snow. But, I will say it is pretty when everything is coated with frosty snow, ice, drifts, icicles, because it’s different. The best time I remember was like the song, ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’. We’d been at our neighbor’s house playing cards until after midnight. Might have been New Years Eve/night. We had had snow, maybe a few inches. When we walked home it was dark, quiet, snow gently falling, and you know that sort of glow that snow has … that. Our feet were crunching along, and then we hear a whole flock of geese flying over to land at the lake by the house. They were sounding eerie, hauntingly honking in the air right over our heads. We couldn’t see them, just hear them. Now that was magical.

These look like Hydrangeas to me. They are snow white, and shaped in round clusters of small flowers. They look like snowballs!

This goes good for us today as we’ve had snow overnight!

2015 Blizzard

Here are a couple of pictures. One of our back yard, and one out the front door (we had to shovel our way out it was so deep). If you’re from the north, and are used to this frozen weather, go ahead and laugh. We’ve never seen so much snow, and the whole city shut down for days!IMG_1935-2IMG_1941-2

Frozen…nope, don’t like winter or cold weather. Give me hot, hundred degree weather any time! 🙂

House # 13

***

So, after we left east TX, my husband went back into the Army. He’d have to take a refresher course (or whatever you call it) which would take a few weeks.

My daughter and I went back to stay with my parents at the old homestead I grew up in. It was nice to get back home, even for a little while.

After his refresher training, he was assigned to the Army post at Ft. Riley Kansas. He found us a place to live, and me and my girl moved up there.

It was just a regular trailer house in a mobile home park, in Junction City Kansas. It was okay. We made some friends, had barbeques, played cards, and the usual things we do from day to day.

Sorry, I have photos, but they all have people in them, and I don’t post family and friend photos on here.

A couple of things I remember about this time:

It was very cold in the winter! I know we have snow in TX but it doesn’t last long. However here in Kansas it seemed the snow came before Thanksgiving and never melted off until after Valentine’s Day! I remember it finally, finally got up to 32 degrees F (freezing temp) and people were out in their summer clothes it felt so warm.

The summer was very hot, too, and that year there was a bumper crop of grasshoppers. They were everywhere – just hordes of them.

And … I found out I was expecting another baby! 🙂

Next up – time to move back home for a little while.

Here are a few photos of snow we’ve had over the years.

  • Tree and wooden bench in our front yard
  • Evergreen tree covered in snow (from my childhood home)
  • Snow & ice bending tree branches to the ground while our dog walks under (many years ago)
  • View of snow in our back yard a few years ago after a blizzard (stick on penguin and snowman on the glass door)

Snowflake on Samsung One UI 1.5

These are the FOTD flowers I posted exactly one year ago, 4/14/19.

They look like white spider mums, and white lilies.

Funny, because I was looking for white flowers because we had some snow overnight!
