The import volume of Vietnamese sugarcane in Guangxi has nearly doubled over the same period last year
Xinhua News Agency, Nanning, July 2 (Wei Jiaxiu, Lin Hao) Lin Zenan, Deputy Director of the Development and Reform Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, introduced in Nanning on July 2 that several sugar-making enterprises in Guangxi have developed raw material bases of about 36,000 mu in Vietnam and have carried out technical exchanges. In the 2024/2025 sugar season, the import volume of Vietnamese sugarcane in Guangxi has nearly doubled over the same period last year.
Lin Zenan introduced at the press conference held that day that Guangxi is China's 'sugar pot', with the planting area of sugarcane and the output of sugar accounting for about 60% of China. In the 2024/2025 sugar season, the planting area of sugarcane in Guangxi is 11.35 million mu, an increase of 110,000 mu over the same period last year.

He said that Guangxi is actively exploring a new model of sugar industry cooperation, 'Vietnam sugarcane + Guangxi sugar production,' as a window for exchanges and cooperation between China and Vietnam, as well as China's opening-up and cooperation with ASEAN. Among them, Longzhou County and Daxin County in Chongzuo City, Guangxi, respectively signed framework agreements for cooperative sugarcane planting and memorandums of understanding on the cooperation of raw sugarcane planting and export with relevant areas in Gaoping Province of Vietnam.
