In the first five months, Chinese large-scale internet enterprises completed internet business revenue of 773.5 billion yuan
Beijing, July 1st, Xinhua News Agency (Reporter Liu Yuying) - The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China released the operation situation of the internet and related service industries from January to May 2025 on July 1st. From January to May, large-scale internet and related service enterprises (hereinafter referred to as 'internet enterprises') achieved an internet business revenue of 773.5 billion yuan (in renminbi, the same below), a year-on-year increase of 0.9%.
From January to May, large-scale internet enterprises realized a total profit of 69.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.2%, with the decline in total profit continuing to narrow. During the same period, large-scale internet enterprises collectively invested 39.06 billion yuan in R&D, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%, with the growth rate falling by 0.7 percentage points compared to the first four months.

From January to May, the internet business revenue in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region maintained a rapid growth momentum. The region achieved an internet business revenue of 266.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.3%, accounting for 34.5% of the national internet business revenue. The Yangtze River Delta region achieved an internet business revenue of 247 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%, accounting for 31.9% of the national internet business revenue.
From January to May, the top five provinces in terms of internet business revenue, namely Beijing, Guangdong, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and Tianjin, collectively achieved a business revenue of 649.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%, accounting for 84% of the national internet business revenue (excluding cross-regional enterprises). During the same period, 11 provinces (autonomous regions, and municipalities) in the country achieved positive growth in internet business revenue, among which Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, and Shaanxi saw growth rates exceeding 10%.
