The container throughput of Shanghai Yangshan Port in the first half of the year reached a new high.
Xinhua News Agency, Shanghai, July 1 (Xie Mengyuan) - On July 1, a journalist learned from the Yangshan Port Marine Bureau that in the first half of 2025, Shanghai Yangshan Deepwater Port completed a container throughput of 14.026 million standard containers (TEU), a year-on-year increase of 7.3%, setting a new historical record; its share in Shanghai Port reached 51.9%, becoming the main growth pole for the continuous increase in container throughput in Shanghai Port.
According to the statistics of the Yangshan Port Marine Bureau, in the first half of 2025, Yangshan Deepwater Port recorded a total of 4620 departures and arrivals of international navigation container ships, a year-on-year increase of 4.6%. Among them, ultra-large container ships with a capacity of 18,000 TEU and above have berthed and departed 704 times, a year-on-year increase of 1%; feeder line container ships have berthed and departed 8803 times, a year-on-year increase of 6.8%, achieving 'double increase' in the flow of trunk and feeder line vessels, and the regional collection and distribution network has remained active.

Maintaining a high level of vessel traffic has put forward higher requirements for the navigation capacity of the port and the operation efficiency of the wharf. In terms of innovative measures for international navigation container ships, in the first half of 2025, Yangshan Deepwater Port implemented 'two-way navigation' 342 times, 'double window departure' 206 times, and 'double set mooring operation' 1564 times along the main channel. The traffic efficiency of the channel and the effective time window for ship operations have been effectively improved, and the idle time of the wharf and the invalid mooring time of ships have been significantly shortened. At the same time, the VTS of Yangshan Port (i.e., the Vessel Traffic Management Center of the Yangshan Port Marine Bureau) has optimized the measures for anchorage management, effectively expanding the capacity of anchored vessels, especially in poor visibility, by arranging ships to anchor in advance. In the first half of the year, the waters of Yangshan experienced nearly 15 heavy fog events, and the ship traffic and port operations were basically normal.
In terms of feeder vessels, Yangshan Deepwater Port has implemented the 'double mooring operation' 1081 times, during which the utilization rate of berths along the same wharf line has increased by 100%, and the operation efficiency of the wharf has been significantly improved.
