The carbon emission intensity of China's textile industry has continued to decline, with the decline exceeding 14% in the past two years
Beijing, July 1st (Zhao Fangyuan) 'From 2005 to 2022, the carbon emission intensity of China's textile industry has dropped by more than 60%, and it has continued to drop by 14% in the past two years.' Sun Rui-zhe, the president of the China Textile Industry Federation, said at the recently held '2025 Climate Innovation & Fashion Conference' that green is becoming the ecological foundation and value foundation for building a modern textile industry system.
Sun Rui-zhe believes that, currently, the green development of the textile industry is undergoing a trend-changing transformation. Firstly, there is a change in the factor structure, with the industry's input-output system undergoing a profound adjustment, and green resources becoming a structural advantage. Secondly, there is a change in the value chain, transitioning from linear to circular, with the scope of corporate responsibility expanding from product delivery to the entire process from raw material acquisition to final disposal, covering the entire lifecycle value chain. Thirdly, there is a change in the governance paradigm, with the extensive management model relying on experience being replaced by a lean management model driven by data.
The special report 'Progress and Outlook of Climate Innovation Actions in the Chinese Textile and Clothing Industry' released by the China Textile Industry Federation shows that by the end of 2024, the rate of setting climate goals of textile and clothing enterprises has increased from 83% two years ago to 90%. 67% of enterprises have processes for identifying, evaluating, and responding to climate risks and opportunities. The proportion of enterprises carrying out value chain carbon emission reduction has reached 51%.
Yan Yan, Vice President of the China Textile Industry Federation, said that in the dimension of action, in the part of self-reduction, the performance improvement of corporate low-carbon transformation has been very good in the past two years, and the average emission intensity of enterprises has decreased from 0.161 tons per ten thousand yuan of revenue to 0.138 tons, with a decrease of more than 14%. Brand enterprises have performed more prominently in terms of emission intensity, decreasing by 18% over the past two years.

In the process of the Chinese textile and clothing industry developing towards greenness, leading enterprises have also played an important role. Gao Dekang, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Pusadi Group, Chairman of the Board of Directors and President, said that sustainable development is not only an embodiment of enterprises fulfilling their social responsibilities but also an inevitable choice for achieving long-term development. 'We must take positive action, with innovation-driven as the guidance, firmly walk the peak road of sustainable development, and promote the transformation of the industry towards green, low-carbon, and sustainable development.
It is learned that last year, Pusadi released the ESG strategic vision of 'consumer-oriented, leading sustainable fashion', setting the goal of 'achieving net zero emissions in the operation process by 2038', gradually integrating the concept of sustainable development into the whole process of enterprise operation and more stakeholders, and focusing on the two key links of green production and green consumption and making continuous efforts.
How can the textile industry further develop towards greenness in the future? Sun Ruizhe suggested that the textile industry should promote the calculation of the full industrial chain carbon footprint from fibers to finished garments in the future; promote green technology specifications such as sustainable fibers, ecological dyes, and water-saving processes; build an ESG innovation system covering the entire chain, and promote the transformation of corporate carbon reduction practices into tradable 'carbon assets'. Give play to the leading role of leading enterprises, promote the coordinated reduction of emissions in the industrial chain; strengthen technological innovation in key areas such as green fibers, waterless and less water printing and dyeing, and the recycling of waste textiles, and accelerate the industrial application of cutting-edge green technologies.
Gao Dekang said that Pusadi will continue to promote the deepening and implementation of ESG construction, actively fulfill the demonstration and leading responsibilities, accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation with the dual carbon goals as the traction, explore and practice low-carbon production modes and green consumption models, extend the concept of sustainability to the value chain, and promote the entire fashion industry to create a sustainable future together.
The Director of the National Climate Center, Chao Qingchen, stated that the textile industry should promote the optimization of energy structure, carry out the innovation of biobased and circular technologies, and establish a comprehensive life-cycle carbon management system. At the same time, it should carry out cross-industry cooperation with industries such as chemicals.
