I'm not even answering this question, lol, I just love that the asker (questioner?) said "for what would you wish". Clearly someone knows that we never end a sentence on a preposition.
So...I'm mostly finished my assignment for Phonetics. Mostly. I have done the first bit which involves identifying vowels from one data set, measuring them on spectrograms (fancy word for blurry graph thing) and them plotting them on vowel charts (fancy name for irregular and oddly measured graph thing). The second bit involves dying. For real, it does...OK, it doesn't. I have to look at another data set and try to identify the place of articulation of stops in word final positions. Now, the language is Thai, with which I am totally unfamiliar, and the stops aren't released (fancy way of saying they don't make the same sounds at the end of the word as our English "stop" or "bot" or "pock"), which kind of means that they're incredibly difficult to hear. This makes transcribing them into IPA really fucking tough, lol. We can use the spectrograms (16 printed bits of paper, thanks very much) to try to identify whether or not the stops are present and what they are...Might not have mentioned that we really haven't done much in classes on this, so it's all knew to me. Goodo.
Wow, much more on that than I wanted to get into.
I have my transcription test tomorrow morning, what a fantabulous way to start the day. I'm not really prepared and the last bit of transcription work I did sucked balls because, apparently, vowels and I aren't friends. Why can't they ever test us on English?! I'd be awesome at that.
What else? Oh, yeah, more Phonetics. Midterm on Monday. Woefully underprepared. Vaguely terrified.
New (dis)Functional Grammar assignment due on the 20th. Lovely.
May 3rd is the due date for my Reading Poetry essay. Lucky for me I can read and quite enjoy poetry. Something might actually work out for me this semester, lol, though not if I don't actually get on with it. I'm looking at doing a question on American poets with the focus on Poe:
"Discuss Edgar Allan Poe's use of the gothic in his poetry, giving substantial analytic attention to at least two poems. To what effect is the gothic mode deployed? Does it provide a substantially different outlook on life in America to his contemporaries? "
Please, someone, remind me why I'm doing this to myself again? I could have a full-time job (again) and have just about enough money to move out on my own. Or I could be travelling...Nyah. No, it's all good, really, I'm just swamped as hell right now and it's totally doing my head in. I hope your lives are running a little more smoothly (and with better time management) than mine is right now.
I'm going to go and have a cup of tea and a cry, lol. Laters, all.
P.S. Take a look at this, it's an interactive IPA chart. The one I'll be using for my test tomorrow (and for everything else, really) is, unfortunately, not interactive...That kind of means that unless you know what symbol goes with which sound, you're fucked. Goody.
Hope all goes well and for that price that therapist lady should include a 5 course meal from the best restaurant in Sydney as part of her therapy session.

Thanks for your thoughts :)
Do you feel you do better with a lot of structure? Or does that sometimes get to be too…
