This is a little blue/silver/white rolling robot like R2D2. It was a fun thing in the children’s wing of the hospital one time. There are lots of shapes on him, like circles, domes, squares, triangles, rectangles, etc. 🙂

Mercury – SOCS – ‘me’

Mercury
Several things about Mercury I can think of.
1. The planet
2. The element
3. The character in myth tales
4. Maybe a superhero?
5. That stuff that used to be in thermometers
That’s the one I want to talk about right now. Those old kind of thermometers used to have Mercury inside them. It was sort of liquid, and a pretty silver color. It would rise up the little inside tube to measure how much heat your fever was.
Well, I never knew it was dangerous, until way later on.
Us kids would often break open a glass thermometer to get the cool, pretty Mercury out. Funny stuff it was. It would bead up, and slither around if you pushed it, and you couldn’t pick it up. It wouldn’t dissolve either. I know we used to take our money coins like a dime and somehow coat the coin in the Mercury. It would make it real shiny! We thought it was pretty cool.
Guess it didn’t hurt us or anything, playing with Mercury. At least I don’t think so … hahaha

Bird of the Day – Exotic Chickens

My cousin Mike raises exotic chickens. He has all kinds, and they all look so interesting. He basically treats them as pets, and gives them all names. Sometimes the names are part of the name of the kind of chicken it is, sometimes just cute names. He collects the eggs of them all.
These photos are some he posted recently. He gave me permission to post them here, too.
The first photo shows a large black & white chicken with an elaborate all black feathery head-dress. He calls this one Silver. I think it is a Polish Silver breed of chicken.
The next photo is Mike holding Silver.
The next photo is another kind of chicken he is holding. He calls this one Houdie. Could be because it is a breed of chicken called Houdan. It is a large black and white chicken, with it’s head-dress of feathers of black & white.
Very cool chickens! 🙂
