Flower of the Day – Danger!

***

From a Wiki article:

Angel’s trumpet is a very poisonous plant, causing intense hallucinations, seizures, and even death in the most severe cases. This plant can also cause poisoning through various routes. You can get poisoned by touching, inhaling, or eating almost any part of an angel’s trumpet.

I saw these for sale outside a grocery store one day. There was no warning sign on them at all.

These are called Angel Trumpet, and they do come in different colors. A very dramatic flower, but very poisonous as they are a member of the nightshades, so do not eat, and handle with care – wash your hands after touching them.

Mercury

Several things about Mercury I can think of.

1. The planet

2. The element

3. The character in myth tales

4. Maybe a superhero?

5. That stuff that used to be in thermometers

That’s the one I want to talk about right now. Those old kind of thermometers used to have Mercury inside them. It was sort of liquid, and a pretty silver color. It would rise up the little inside tube to measure how much heat your fever was.

Well, I never knew it was dangerous, until way later on.

Us kids would often break open a glass thermometer to get the cool, pretty Mercury out. Funny stuff it was. It would bead up, and slither around if you pushed it, and you couldn’t pick it up. It wouldn’t dissolve either. I know we used to take our money coins like a dime and somehow coat the coin in the Mercury. It would make it real shiny! We thought it was pretty cool.

Guess it didn’t hurt us or anything, playing with Mercury. At least I don’t think so … hahaha

Song Lyric Sunday – Danger

Today, for SLS, Helen has asked us to find songs about “Danger”. Thanks, Helen!

Interesting prompt for right here at Christmas time. I had to look up some, to get an idea. There were a lot of titles I’d never heard of, and then there were songs about dangerous women, end of the world scenarios, and all sorts of other dangers.

Anyway…I chose this one. It was a YouTube video that was thought up by an Australian company and was to be a public service announcement campaign for their Metro train.

It’s a cute animated video, highlighting lots of dangers that a person should never do, or you might die. Good advice presented in a humorous way.

“Dumb Ways to Die”, sung by Emily Lubitz and Ollie McGill, of the band, Tangerine Kitty, was uploaded to YouTube in 2012. It was written by John Mescall, and produced by Cinnamon Darwall, and animated by Julian Frost.

Set fire to your hair
Poke a stick at a grizzly bear
Eat medicines that’s out of date
Use your private parts as piranha baitDumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to dieGet your toast out with a fork
Do your own electrical work
Teach yourself how to fly
Eat a two week old unrefrigerated pieDumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Invite a psycho-killer inside
Scratch your drug dealer’s brand new ride
Take your helmet off in outer space
Use your clothes dryer as a hiding place

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Keep a rattlesnake as pet
Sell both the kidneys on the internet
Eat a tube of superglue
“I wonder what’s this red button do?”

Dumb ways to die, so many dumb ways to die

Dress up like a moose during hunting season
Disturb a nest of wasps for no good reason
Stand on the edge of a train station platform
Drive around the boom gates at a level crossing
Run across the tracks between the platforms
They may not rhyme but they’re quite possibly

Dumbest ways to die ie
Dumbest ways to die
Dumbest ways to die
So many dumb
So many dumb ways to die

Be safe around trains. A message from Metro

ENLARGED

Farmers were wise to never again allow their cows out to this lush, green pasture.

Only the jack rabbits were in danger.

Releasing the last batch of bunnies into the woods, the UFO beamed up a new crop to enlarge.

First, for the prompt word ‘Danger’, I thought of a rock band from quite a few years ago, that called themselves Danger Danger. I heard them referred to also as D2. I liked a lot of bands back then, the so called ‘hair bands’, but really wasn’t into this one so much.

Next, I thought of the old black and white TV series, “Lost In Space”. We watched this show all the time. The show had a robot who was supposed to be smart, or something, but he was always telling the little boy on the show, to be careful. He’d say, “Danger, Danger, Will Robinson!”, whenever the boy was doing something he shouldn’t be doing. Anyway, to this day, our family still says that catchphrase to each other when we’re giving out a warning, or just being silly. 🙂

Here’s a short clip of the robot & the boy.
