I kept looking for songs with ‘speak’ in the title or lyrics, and there were some, but nothing I could remember hearing before. So, I thought about just skipping this week, or at least posting a totally off topic song. That was last evening. This morning though, this song popped into my head. It seems to fit the theme in a way. Here’s why…

We speak our thoughts out loud, so they do carry out into the air, to whoever hears them. Or even just ourselves. We hear our own voice speaking. (yes, I do talk to myself all the time)

The lyrics to the song, and the video is trying to say that this woman is being manipulated, and her thoughts are being squashed down, by her boyfriend. I think this is emotional abuse. He is trying to make her change into someone that he wants her to be, and it’s not her true nature. He keeps telling her to shut up, that her voice doesn’t matter, and is less than his and his high society friends. She finally has had enough, and rises up with her own voice, to speak her truth. Yay for her! 🙂

For me, this was a hard one to find songs that had smile in the title or lyrics. Then, I found this one. I think the My Little Ponies are so cute, and yay! they had a smile song. Hope you enjoy the video and song, and that it brings a smile to you, too. 🙂

This one turned out to be hard for me. All I could hear in my head after reading the prompt was that song from the movie, “Frozen”, which was “Let It Go”. After googling for awhile, I didn’t see anything that seemed to fit, at least to my way of thinking. Finally, this very old classic popped into my mind. I don’t know why, as I’ve not heard or thought about this song in forever.

Instead of letting ‘it’ go it is about letting go of a lover, because it’s just not working out. Maybe?

Anyway, enjoy this oldie from long ago.

“Let Me Go, Lover”, by Patti Page is her cover version of the song, which was sung originally by Joan Weber. It was written by Jenny Lou Carson, and Al Hill, and topped the Billboard charts in 1954. It’s on the Mercury label.

I listened to the original one, and I like this one better, and is probably the one I used to hear on the radio.

Today’s SLS is a bit different. We’re supposed to find a song by someone that has the same name as ours. Here’s what Helen has said:

So, let’s just get right to it.  Put your thinking caps on, break out your playlists and get to work!  Our theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week, brought to us by the lovely Kirstwrites, is “a song from an artist/singer who shares your name”.   While this might be a difficult challenge, you could always just post a favorite song if you aren’t able to find an artist/singer that shares your name along with a song you like.  We’ve got to make it difficult sometimes, right?

So, I could only think of two singers with my name, Barbara. Those were Barbra Streisand, and Barbara Mandrell. While these are very well-known and I do like some of their songs, I wanted something different and new to me. I spent some time googling, and you know what, there aren’t that many singers named, or called Barbara that I could find. Shocking, I know, as you’d think there would be a lot. Oh well, I kept on looking until I found this one, and I’d never heard it, but turns out it was a really beautiful song. The video is also so enchanting.

The singer is Monique Andree Serf, and goes by the stage name of Barbara. She sings in French, and the video’s lyrics are in French. I did find an English translation of the song. This song, “L’Aigle Noir” is said to have sold 1 million copies in only 12 hours!

Hope you enjoy hearing this song as much as I did.

This song is the very first one that I thought of that mentions ‘heart’. It’s an oldie, but one of my favorites from the way back music machine.

I’ve loved this song since it first came out.

I wasn’t inspired by looking through the list of songs with ‘light’ or ‘lights’ in the title or lyrics. I liked a lot of the songs, but I wanted to do something different. Now, this song I chose won’t be to everyone’s taste, as it is hard rock/metal, or however it’s classified. But, I’ve always liked this band, and have all their music, either on cassette tape or CD.
