CFFC – winter/summer

Dan is now hosting Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge! Find information at the below link. Thanks so much for continuing this fun challenge each week, Dan.

For this week’s prompt we are to find photos of winter or summer or both.

CFFC — A Look Back One Year

***

Today, for CFFC challenge, we were asked to find photos of winter. Here are a couple of B & W ones from our front and back yard, when I was a kid. That tree is still standing, and has seen many winters. Icicles from off the back of the house roof…always cool to see, and a snowman my kids and I made one year in the same front yard I grew up playing in. 🙂

It will be 362 degrees on Thursday … and sometimes it sure feels like it’s that hot in the summertime here.

***

So, I was watching the TV weather forecast one day, and the chart showing temperatures for that week was very surprising! It showed Thursday’s as being 362 degrees! The weather person came back on to say it was a mistake. hahaha

***

***

This was an early morning sunrise which is turning the sky yellow with the sun a big white  ball of heat. That’s what we get in the summer around here, and it starts early in the mornings and is still hot sometime way into the evening.

I took this photo of the bright sunrise one morning at 8:00 a.m. It shows how bright fiery orange and white it was shining over the lake. That day was forecast to be about 100 degrees F.

Here we are usually hot, dry, and dusty, so when it rains it is like a refreshing, renewal for everyone and everything. I know we love when it rains after a long dry spell, so we marvel and feel uplifted. I’m sure these trees are enjoying it, too.

These photos show the rain coming down in parallel lines! The two trees are in two different neighbor’s yards across from us.

“Who’ll Stop the Rain”, by Creedence Clearwater Revival

***

A poem I wrote for my grand-daughter

RAIN CLOUDS

I asked her what she thought of clouds

All she said was moon

Pointing to a clear blue sky,

Would clouds be coming soon?

She knows the stars, the sun, the sky,

And the silvery moon catches her eye,

But where are the clouds, the clouds with rain?

She loves the rain, she hopes they’ll be stopping by.

She wants the rain, she loves the splatter, upon

The window pane.

On and on she continues to chatter, her happy refrain…

The rain…the rain…the rain…

The moon is great, the sun is fun,

The sky is certainly blue.

But, she wants rain, and only rain,

Nothing else will do.

You see she’s just a little girl…

You see…she’s only two.

Burgeoning – Move Forward – Reconstruct – Renew

Catch-up Day for Bloganuary 2023

Standard

WordPress.com Bloganuary Logo and Wordmark

I’m trying to catch up with these prompts I missed so here they are, unless I missed some more.

***

Today’s a great day to blog, and the Bloganuary prompt is:

What is the most memorable gift you have received? … A surprise birthday party on my 9th birthday. I even have a home movie of it, and I was truly surprised.

***

What is your preferred mode of travel? … I like riding in a car if someone else is driving. I really like traveling in an airplane, though. I like watching people at the airport, I like seeing the planes, I like taking off and looking at the clouds and the ground far below, and I like landing, too. It’s exciting to get to where you’re going.

***

How far back in your family tree can you go?

***

I can’t go back very far in my family tree. I’ve never researched it.

I have a few photos of my grandparents & great grandparents, but that’s about all. One relative on one side wrote some things down as much as she could remember. I have the paper. At the moment I don’t remember what she said, though. It’s in my file cabinet.

At one time I heard stories, or maybe I make it all up in my head ? that on my maternal grandmother’s side we were kin to Alexander Graham Bell. Her family name was Bell.

I also heard we were kin to Billy the Kid, and Daniel Boone! haha – I have no idea if any of these are true.

I do know one of my great – grandmothers was full blood Native American. I’ve visited her grave here in town. She was a member of the Blackfoot Nation.

***

Ready to write?

Today’s a great day to blog, and the Bloganuary prompt is:

Write a short story or poem about rain.

***

I wrote this poem for my grand-daughter when she was two years old. (she is 9 now) 🙂

Rain on Me

Rain On Me Click to view

***

Well, I posted this over on another blogging site in the year 2014. Basically no one saw it, so I thought I’d send it out over here.

I still have my blog over there, and at least a year’s worth of posts from 2013-14, never seen. I may bring some more over here once in awhile.

This one is about rain and how much we don’t get and how much we always wish for more. I really can’t remember the last time we had rain other than a sprinkle.

Rain

RAIN ON ME!
Here in the semi-arid region of west Texas, rain, or the lack of it, is a main topic of conversation, everywhere you go. Everyone comments on us needing it, and will it ever rain again.

Some groups have prayer vigils for rain, others perform rain dances, and there has been times when the clouds were seeded with silver iodide or dry ice, to help bring the rain. We just never have enough.

At those times we do get a good rain, it causes flash flooding. A couple of those a year will be all we get. Our average rainfall for a year is only about 19 inches. That’s on a good year!

You can actually feel the relief people have when even a small amount of rain falls. People begin smiling more, and are animated and energetic again. Lots of times we run outside, just to feel the rain on us, after being without for so long. Then the next day, everyone will ask “Did it rain at your house?”, because sometimes it is hit or miss.

Rain clears the air of all the dusty, sandstorms, and seems to clear everyone’s head from the monotonous dryness of this area.

So, I’ve been thinking of songs that mention rain. Here are a few. Can you think of others? Rain is a very popular topic in all genres of songs.

  • “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” by B.J. Thomas
  • “Rhythm of the Rain” by the Cascades
  • “November Rain” by Guns ‘n Roses
  • “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor
  • “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • “A Hard Rain’s a’Gonna Fall” by Bob Dylan
  • “Rainy Night in Georgia” by Brooks Benton
  • “Purple Rain” by Prince
  • “Rainy Days and Mondays” by the Carpenters
  • “Rain on the Roof” by the Lovin’ Spoonful
  • “Kentucky Rain” by Elvis Presley
  • I Love a Rainy Night – Eddie Rabbit

Hope you’ve enjoyed reading about the rain!

Sunday Trees – 397

***

A couple of days late, but here’s my entry for the Sunday Trees challenge. 🙂

***

These are the trees I see every day right around our house.

The first one is our front yard tree in the beginning of fall. The leaves have already started to turn yellow and fall to the ground. You can also see part of our sidewalk, and a weathered wood bench. One of our neighbors built the bench for us.

The next photos I took yesterday afternoon during a rain and hail storm. Lots of thunder, and rain, and the hail  was very loud, but not very big…about pea to marble sized.

There is the tree directly next door. You can see the mailbox in this one.

Then the big tree directly across the street from us. You can see part of their house.

Last tree is across from us, too.

Lots of green leaves, and we have had plenty of rain this year.
