Odd Poem October – dead or alive

***

🐀🐀🐀

Put a mouse trap in a drawer

I don’t hear that mouse no more

I don’t hear no scratch or squeak

But now I’m scared to take a peek

Is it dead or is it not

Guess I’ll leave it there to rot

👻👻👻

I’ve done quite a few October poetry challenges before, but can’t seen to find any official ones right now. So I’m just making my own. I’ll try to put some funny or odd poems each day this month.  Some may be new, some may be old, and I hope  you’ll enjoy reading them.

SOCS – toast

T … Today

O… Observe

A… And

S… See

T… Today

🙂 🙂 🙂

And that was silly. But I’ve written posts on toasts (hee hee) quite a few times, and I’m not in the mood to write about toast again. I don’t even like toast any more. I used to. But something happened, and I don’t like the taste of it now. I eat it, but put jelly on it so I can’t taste the terrible toast.

And now breakfast is ready, with toast. Ugh!

Also, I feel like toast this morning. Crummy, or crumbly? I didn’t get mush (much) sleep last night. First, I wasn’t sleepy at my regular time. Then someone around here was popping fireworks. They always sound like right by my bedroom window, but really the house behind ours I think.

Then, I’m pretty sure we have another mouse in the house. I have a dresser with drawers right by where I sleep. The drawers are all empty now, since the last  mouse set up housekeeping there. And now, but is long gone away. Now a relative of his has moved in I think. So noisy! I hear scritching, and scratching and thumping in there. I bang on the dresser to make him be quiet, but then it starts again.

Then, we start having a huge and loud thunderstorm. House rattling thunder, lightning that was continuous for over an hour, and pouring rain. I had to get up. I couldn’t sleep in all that noise. So I was up for like 3 hours, playing computer games, having snack and watching the lightning. Finally about 1:30 or so I try to go back to sleep in the bedroom, and I guess I managed to. But then we always get up by 4 a.m.  … Yeah, I feel like toast today. 🙂

The word ‘mouse’ is from the ancient Sanskrit word ‘mus’ which means thief,

This is a fuzzy pink cat toy mouse that is sitting on some wrapping paper that has pink hearts and stars on it.

Cute pink mouse that was on my grand-daughters t-shirt when she was little.

***

4 more cat toy mice – gray, blue, and 2 green ones. They all had names, but I forget what they were. Oh wait, the last two I remember – Blue Louie, and the green one on the end was Mel Gibson, for some reason. haha!

Another cat toy – stuffed gray mouse with pink ears and a very long tail. This one we named Ratina.

This photo is I think a cute mouse or rat, it is silver, and is a small charm on my charm bracelet. It was given to me by my very good friend. This was back in high school. You know when you meet someone for the first time, and it seems you’ve known each other forever? That’s how it was, and we both felt it. Could it have been we knew each other in a former life? We thought so.  It is engraved on the back with the letters, “BC”, which is for her name. Why a mouse/rat? I have no idea now, but it must have meant something back then.

Remember That Time? – SOCS – Repeated Story

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 20, 2024

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “a repeated story.” Include in your post a story you’ve repeated again and again or a story you’ve heard again and again. Or write about the phenomenon itself. Have fun!

***

Remember that time …?

Seems like family stories get repeated over and over, and most start with that phrase, ‘Remember that time …?” Then we go into the when, where, who, why and what happened at a certain time in our remembrances.

It’s fun to laugh again at some silly thing that happened, and most of these stories are on the funnier side, or absurd.

Here’s one that gets repeated of ours …

My sister and I and the kids, who were little toddlers, were sitting on the couch while the kids were playing on the floor. All of a sudden my sister hollers, “There’s a mouse!”. Sure enough a mouse was running along the baseboard of the wall. Us grownups yelled and picked our feet up off the floor, ……. and left the little kids down there on the floor to fend for themselves! haha ! Then we were like Oh no why didn’t we grab the kids to safety, but we couldn’t stop laughing about it anyway. The mouse was long gone by then anyway.

Taking a look back at my charm bracelet, to remember what all the little charms were, and for what memories they bring.

This first photo is I think a cute mouse or rat. I’m not real sure if I bought it, or if it was given to me. I’m more leaning to it was given to me by my very good friend.

The second photo is a bat. I remember I bought this when my family visited Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. I’ve been there a couple of times, and it is an amazing cave. So, of course I had to have a charm of a bat.
