Well, what have we here? A prompt to figure out. I’m thinking it has something to do with telling jokes, or telling people of some experience they’ve had, and you’ve heard it all before. You’ve heard the jokes a million times, and the stories just about as much, and how many times can you honestly laugh at them, or commiserate with a person if the story is not supposed to be funny.
With jokes, mostly I can’t remember them, so they seem new every time. Eventually they will stick, though. We send a text to our daughters every morning of either jokes we find from a book, or a funny fact. This has been for years, and if we’ve sent one once, we’ve sent it multiple times. My Mr. reads them while I text on my phone (or use the microphone to type words), and if we’ve done it a bunch of times, I say we’ve done it before.
And that was a boring paragraph, if I do say so myself. But what else have we got to do … it starts our day right after breakfast.
Here’s a classic joke: Pete and Repeat were sitting in a boat. Pete fell out, who was left? …. the person says Repeat, and so you repeat the joke over and over until the person catches on. haha
We tend to tell our stories of what experience we’ve had over a few times to people. I don’t know why, but we get fixated on one, and want everyone to know about it. I know I do. I even tell the stories to myself over and over, by thinking of them. Then I wonder what would have happened …if, this or that had been different. Maybe if you say it enough you’ll start to believe it that way? Who knows. I don’t usually tell people to stop talking if they are telling a story or joke, though. Let them have their time in the spotlight I guess. 🙂
