CIVILIZATION DIDN’T FALL WITH ROME! QUITE THE OPPOSITE! NEW ETHICS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY: CANCEL SLAVERY, FOSTER TECHNOLOGY, THUS SCIENCE
Censorship Is Slavery! Slavery Destroys Civilization! Yet, Civilization Didn’t Fall With Rome! Quite The Opposite! The Free (=Franks) Took Over! New Ethics Advanced Technology: Cancel Slavery, Foster Technology, Thus Science…
So finally Meta’s Zuckerberg saw the light and will cancel the Meta cancelators… As I have explained many times, and for decades, much of the advancement of thinking consists of the meta process, the jumping out of the logical box, the universe in which a particular logic may fester… It was extremely smart of Zuckenberg to capture the concept… Indeed Facebook, well done, will foster Meta… So did the Free, the Franks… That’s why they and their descendant regimes still rule today.
Indeed let me jump back to the Decline and Fall of the Roman imperial socioeconomic state. It was caused by censorship! The Frankish Civilizational advance was ethically based. The Franks promoted equality of opportunity and women (from their Salic Law, isomeric on inheritance). If privilege is less privileged, the commons are more motivated to try harder as the fruit may be more delicious. Also the commons had more of a chance, and risked less when presenting new ways and ideas, from the return of tolerance. Jews, Pagans and heretics were allowed to think aloud (so more intellectual activity).
In 657 CE, Queen Bathilde of the Franks outlawed child trafficking and slavery. So civilization did not stop after the Fall of the Roman state, just the opposite!
Neither did Roman civilization really fall: everybody spoke Latin. The Roman civil code, 1.5 million words, was refurbished mid Sixth Century, and applied, by the Franks, in parallel with the Lex Salica. The state would do the arbitration judging whether Lex Salica of Corpus Civilis should be applied… And that role of referee made the Frankish state more powerful.
Steady progress was made in tech by the Franks, all the more as there were no more slaves, and metal mining was as active in 800 CE as during the peak metal mining period of Rome. New species of plants (beans!) and animals were created, and mechanical advantage (hydraulic hammers), windmills and waterwheels, became ubiquitous (as there were no slaves). New architecture was deployed… from better knowledge of vector geometry and forces, with resulting economy of materials… This in turn would lead to the discovery of the laws of mechanics around 1350 CE… Yes, three centuries before Newton…

So civilization didn’t fall with Rome! Quite the opposite! The Franks, and ultimately their descendant regimes (all the way to Trump USA!) ruled because of new ethics which made them stronger. The new ethics had truth at their core. truth is found by excluding what is false. It was false that non-Catholic were “insane” as emperor Theodosius claimed in 380 CE. Moreover, it was criminal to kill them. How could one call that civilization?
Jesus-focused idolatry and the fatal, lethal intolerance that the Roman Catholic emperors promoted brought the collapse of the mind, hence of the Roman military and hence of the Roman state. Reciprocally, tolerance and less inequality, plus the outlawing of slavery opened the minds and more of them… while forcing the evolution of advanced technology… Thus science.
And here we are…. (After the relapse into criminal idolatry by Christians during… the Renaissance (see below)).
Facebook sees the light:
Ah what would be modern slavery like? Slavery was, first of all, mind control. Slaves obeyed. The lethal censorship of the Roman Catholic emperors was also all about mind control.
The tyrant (and Saint!) Constantine ordered the execution of anybody with a book of Arius at home (Arius was the bishop of Alexandria, who was fired and reinstituted twice for criticizing the ridiculous myth of the Trinity; both the Barbarians who invaded Rome and the Muslims 250 years later followed Arius’ ideology…). So censorship is generalized slavery.
Meta will get rid of factcheckers, “dramatically reduce the amount of censorship” and recommend more political content on its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Threads, founder Mark Zuckerberg has announced.
Meta will “get rid of factcheckers and replace them with community notes similar to X” (Patrice Ayme is a factchecker on X… it’s my main activity there these days… Factchecking on X is subject to debate, explanations, and vote; the “Notes” are NOT censorship, but enlightenship)
Want to advance civilization? Debate and create new answers!… Beat completely (that’s what de-bate means! Old French debatre (13c., Modern French débattre), originally “to fight,” from de- “down, completely” (see de-) + batre “to beat,” from Latin battuere “beat”….
By contrast, the Latin censor comes from censere “to appraise, value, judge the root of which is “speak solemnly, proclaim…”
The word Franks (Latin Franci) initially meant “ferocious”. One has to be ferocious to beat completely! Duringf the 6th century AD, the tribal name francus turned into an adjective meaning ‘free’ in Medieval Latin. Thus, after 600 CE, everybody in the (already large) Imperium Francorum, who was not a slave, was considered to be a Frank! “Franc parler” came to mean someone who was not afraid to speak what she or he thought (the fundamental concept of Greek democracy, parrhesia)…
The connection between advancing ethics and advancing tech and science is a lesson for this present apocalypse. Humans are truth machines, and ethics, thus, are entangled with truth. Want to survive? Think! Want to think? Debate! Want debate? Freedom!
And notice this… So far I have talked about the fall and decline of the Roman imperial state, 16 centuries ago. However, the same title can be interpreted as adressing the events of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. History repeated itself!
Well, let’s not do it again… This time the consequences would be most severe…
Patrice Ayme.
