Hoy en día puedes realizar ediciones con IA para imágenes personalizadas, pero nada puede superar la autenticidad y la emoción del momento que puede evocar recuerdos increíbles en una sesión fotográfica en Nueva York. Depende de la estética deseada y del objetivo de cada sesión, pero he aprendido que las parejas siempre prefieren fotos en las que ellos sean los protagonistas de la historia.

No hay secretos, ninguna IA puede superar una sesión de fotos matutina en la que no hay nadie o… casi nadie. Se podrían hacer ediciones para eliminar y agregar personas, o incluso se puede modificar el propio entorno, sin embargo, nada mejor que saber que estuvieron en estos maravillosos lugares, donde parece que están solos. Me encanta cuando mis modelos quieren hacer una sesión de fotos al aire libre temprano, especialmente si es en lugares como Central Park y/o la Fuente Bethesda, que en Nueva York es uno de los lugares más populares y donde siempre y a todas horas hay gente.

Éstos son algunos de los beneficios de tener una sesión de fotos temprano en la mañana, Esta encantadora pareja lo sabe! Estoy increíblemente agradecida por la confianza que me han brindado y lo buena honda que son. ¡Me encanta cuando traen una idea para tomar alguna foto porque sé el lugar exacto para recrearla y todos juntos lo logramos! y no voy a mentir: es mucho más fácil si no hay gente alrededor.

Las fotografías se pueden tomar en cualquier momento, pero una de las cosas que siempre preguntan y lo primero que digo es tener una sesión de fotos es: Mientras mas temprano, mejor. No a todos les funciona por diferentes motivos, pero aquí les digo unos beneficios para tener una sesión de fotos temprano por la mañana.

Paisaje único. Los fondos naturales suelen tener una sensación de tranquilidad y conexión con la naturaleza. La variedad de ubicaciones en Nueva York ofrece diversos paisajes, texturas y colores que pueden sentirse mucho mas idilicas.

Luz natural suave. A esta hora, los rayos del sol son mucho mas suaves y eso se nota a la en la textura de la piel porque evita sombras fuertes y brillos que no son nada favorecedores.

Menos gente. Aunque algunas ediciones se pueden realizar con herramientas de inteligencia artificial en Lightroom o Photoshop, las distracciones en la locación de tener gente alrededor a veces distraen a los modelos. La autenticidad suele surgir en ambientes libres de curiosos que muchas veces distraen o inhiben a quien esta siendo fotografiado.

Mejor vibra. Especialmente si las condiciones climáticas son buenas, la energía fluye mucho mejor. Las sesiones temprano en la mañana pueden ayudar a las parejas a sentirse cómodas siendo fotografiadas.

Mejor concentración en la sesión fotográfica. A menos que seas una super estrella que este acostumbrada a tener toda la atención hacia ti, el tener un menor numero de audiencia, ayuda a que los modelos estén mas concentrados y se diviertan creando sus imágenes ante mi cámara con la energía y confianza del propósito de las fotos, que es crear recuerdos imborrables y atraparlos en el tiempo con fotos espectaculares.

Photographs can be taken at any time although family sessions with children are a little different, one of the things they always ask and the first thing I say is to have a photo session as early as possible and here I tell you some benefits to having a photo session early.

Unique landscape. Natural backgrounds often have a feeling of tranquility and connection with nature. The variety of locations in New York offers diverse landscapes, textures and colors that can feel much more idyllic.

Soft Natural Light. At this time, the sun is much softer and this is noticeable in the texture of the skin because it avoids strong shadows and shine that are not flattering at all.

Ubicado en West 72 Street, Strawberry Fields es un monumento a John Lennon, a pocos metros del edificio Dakota, un complejo de apartamentos de lujo donde Lennon vivió hasta el 8 de diciembre de 1980. Un hombre llamado Mark David Chapman le disparó justo afuera del Edificio Dakota. John Lennon tenía 40 años.

Lennon, ex miembro de la banda británica Beatles, fue también un activista y se proclamaba por la paz mundial. Alguna vez él declaró en una entrevista que no le interesaba ser un «puto héroe muerto».

Miles de seguidores de distintas generaciones acuden a Strawberry Fields en Central Park de Nueva York, que con un dejo de nostalgia hace tributo a John Lennon, con el Dakota Building y la musica de Beatles de fondo.

Located on West 72 Street, New York, Strawberry Fields is a memorial that pays tribute to John Lennon, just meters from The Dakota Building, a luxury apartment building where Lennon lived until December 8, 1980. Mark David Chapman shot Lennon right outside the Dakota Building. John Lennon was 40 years old.

Lennon, former member of the British band The Beatles, was also an activist and proclaimed world peace. In an interview shortly before his death, Lennon said he had no interest in being a «fucking dead hero».

Thousands of fans from different generations come to this spot in Central Park, so characteristic because there are always chords of The Beatles resonating next to the Strawberry Fields memorial, which is a circular mosaic with the word Imagine in the center. Un paseo por los edificios favoritos de Diego Rivera

Cuando vienen a visitarme a Nueva York, trato siempre de incluir un paseo por el East River cuya ruta pasa por Roosevelt Island, Long Island City, Midtown Manhattan y Brooklyn teniendo cono última parada la zona financiera. Este paseo es parte de mi itinerario favorito, por sus alucinantes vistas a los rascacielos y desde donde se alcanzan a ver iconos de Nueva York como el Chrysler Building, Empire Estate, One World Observatory, Municipal Building, y el reciente mirador Summit One Vanderbilt.

Hasta ahora no he recibido quejas de mis visitantes al llevarlos por acá y es que los rascacielos han sido desde sus inicios un gran atractivo. A principios del siglo XX la construcción de estos altos edificios era una novedad. Había relativamente pocos en el horizonte de la Gran Manzana cuando Diego Rivera, uno los grandes pintores mexicanos, visitó Nueva York e incluyó precisamente algunos de aquellos primeros rascacielos en su mural Frozen Assets.

Don Diego decidió plasmar en la parte superior de su obra, los edificios de Nueva York de una forma intencionada. Su fresco es una maravillosa síntesis de los puntos de referencia de antaño pues en sus trazos incluye edificios de Midtown y el Bajo Manhattan, así como un segmento del tren elevado (lo que ahora se conoce como Highline) y todo es aparentemente visto desde un muelle.

¿Te imaginas si ese misma pintura fuera creada hoy en día? Habría que pensar en multiplicar sus dimensiones por tantos edificios que esta ciudad tiene a la fecha como referente de la arquitectura vertical que tanto nos gusta.

Algunos de los rascacielos que brillaban en aquel tiempo continuan de pie conservando su belleza y significado histórico, pero su altura no se compara con estas nuevas gigantescas moles que siguen poblando sin tregua esta metrópoli.

Frozen Assets estuvo lista en 1931 y se dice que el esposo de Frida Kahlo, seleccionó solamente edificios que habían sido erigidos tres años antes de su llegada.

Por aquí te dejo una lista que el Museo de Arte Moderno de Nueva York se dio a la tarea de reconocer y enumerar, pues el MoMa tuvo Frozen Assets expuesta en el 2012. La lista de los rascacielos lleva la dirección de cada uno por si quieres armarte un tour a pie e ir tras los pasos de Rivera:

A Journey Through Rivera´s Favorite Buildings

When someone comes to visit me in New York, I always try to include a ferry ride along the East River, whose route passes through Roosevelt Island, Long Island City, Midtown Manhattan and Brooklyn, with the Financial District as the last stop. This tour is part of my favorite itinerary, for its amazing views of the skyscrapers and from where you can see icons of New York such as the Chrysler Building, Empire Estate, One World Observatory, Municipal Building, and the recent Summit One Vanderbilt observation deck.

So far I have not received any complaints from my guests when taking them here, the skyscrapers have been a great attraction. At the beginning of the 20th century, the construction of these tall buildings was a novelty and there were relatively few on the Big Apple’s skyline, when Diego Rivera, one of the great Mexican painters, included precisely some of those first skyscrapers in his mural Frozen Assets.

Don Diego decided to paint a composite of New York’s buildings at the top of his work. His fresco is a wonderful synthesis of the landmarks of yesteryear as its lines include buildings in Midtown and Lower Manhattan, as well as a segment of the elevated train (what is now known nowadays as the Highline) and everything is apparently seen from a pier.

Can you imagine if that same painting were created today? We should think about multiplying its dimensions by the many buildings that this city has to date as a reference for the vertical architecture that we like so much.

Some of the skyscrapers that shone at that time continue standing, preserving their beauty and historical significance, but their height does not compare with these new gigantic masses that continue to populate this metropolis without respite.

Frozen Assets was ready in 1931 and it is said that Frida Kahlo’s husband chose to feature only buildings that were no more than three years prior to his arrival in this city.

Here there is a list that the Museum of Modern Art in New York undertook the task of recognizing and listing, since the MoMa had Frozen Assets exhibited in 2012. El Hombre Araña en Lower Manhattan

Ni el viento de 23 grados Fahrenheit ni el cielo pálido de frío le impidieron a este super héroe estar por un buen rato en el cruce de Chambers y Centre Street de Manhattan saludando a los niños y a quien se encontrara a su paso. Me imagino que ese traje del Hombre Araña debe estar lo suficientemente cálido para soportar las bajas temperaturas de febrero en Nueva York, porque mientras todos íbamos cubiertos de pies a cabeza, él no traía ni un suéter y hasta posó para mi foto.

El edificio del lado derecho de la fotografía es el Tribunal Testamentario de Nueva York, también conocido como Salón de Registros, diseñado en el estilo Beaux-Arts por John Rochester Thomas. En el siglo XX esta maravilla se salvó de que lo destruyeran porque el gobierno de la Ciudad de Nueva York había propuesto un proyecto arquitectónico en esta zona que implicaba ni más ni menos que su demolición, sin embargo esos planes se descartaron por la crisis fiscal de Nueva York en 1975.

El edificio no sólo sigue en pie hasta la fecha, sino que fue designado como un monumento histórico de la ciudad, y su proyecto de restauración ganó el Premio de Preservación Lucy Moses en 2020; también fue la sede de varios capítulos de La Ley y el Orden. Si están en Nueva York y quieren conocerlo, vayan a Chambers, 31.

Si andan por esa zona del bajo Manhatan… ¡A lo mejor también tienen la suerte de encontrarse al mismísimo Hombre Araña!

Spider Man in Lower Manhattan

Neither the 23 degree Fahrenheit wind nor the pale cold sky prevented this superhero from being at the intersection of Chambers and Center Street for a while, greeting the children and whoever he found in his path. I believe that Spider Man suit must be warm enough to withstand the low February temperatures in New York, because while we were all covered from head to toe, he wasn’t wearing a sweater and he even posed for my photo.

The building on the right side of the photograph is the New York Surrogate’s Courthouse, also known as the Hall of Records which was designed in the Beaux-Arts style by John Rochester Thomas. In the 20th century, this wonder was saved from being destroyed because the New York City government had proposed an architectural project in this area, which implied its demolition, however those plans were discarded due to the fiscal crisis. of New York in 1975.

Fortunately New York Surrogate’s Courthouse still stand to this day, and it was designated a city historic landmark; its restoration project won the Lucy Moses Preservation Award in 2020, and it was used as a film location for several episodes of the series Law & Order. If you are in New York and you want to see it, you will find it on Chambers, 31. Maybe you will also get lucky and find Spider Man around!

¿Qué sabe esta ciudad de rascacielos de la emoción de sacarte el muñequito de la Rosca de Reyes?, o ¿por qué la tamaliza del 2 de febrero se hace después de 40 días de la Navidad? En víspera del Día de la Candelaria, toca contar sobre estas y otras costumbres y eso es precisamente lo que mi familia y yo hacemos todos los años.

Hoy en día, lo de comer tamales es un buen pretexto para celebrar el 2 de febrero con amigos y familiares. Pero dicen los que saben, que esa fecha marca la presentación de Jesús al templo de Jerusalén y el fin de la cuarentena de la Virgen María, es un festejo con tintes católicos y culturales pero una experiencia gastronómica que no hay que perderse.

El tiempo me aleja de aquella época en la que andaba explorando el Barrio de la Merced ilustrando la variedad de Cómo vestir a los Niños Dios en el Día de la Candelaria, pero el pensamiento mantiene vivos esos días en los que iba de la mano (casi literalmente) de mi querida Luisa Cortés, cronista de esas calles de romería y comercio incansable, quien me acompañaba a tomar fotos de aquellos puestos y comercios tan llenos de color y tradición.

En esa zona céntrica de Ciudad de México saben todos esos pormenores sobre esta festividad. Después de cuatro años viviendo de este lado del charco, me ha tocado contar a los amigos precisamente sobre estas tradiciones que seguimos celebrando con mucho orgullo, cariño y por supuesto muchas ganas de comer. 

Un poco antes del 6 de enero hay que estar atentos a los lugares donde preparan la Rosca de Reyes. Y es que acá en NY nadie se anda deschongando para conseguirlas, es más bien un hallazgo poder encontrar donde las venden.

Ni hablar del sabor y variedad pues obviamente aquí en Manhattan la cosa es distinta a las de mi DFectuoso que tanto echo de menos. Empezando porque ni cómo conseguir aquellas roscas ¨finísimas de Paris de La Suiza; o las codiciadas roscas a granel que se avientan en el Costco; mucho menos se encuentran aquellas que en mi humilde opinión se llevan de calle a todas las demás: las roscas de la pastelería Firol, que son una verdadera delicia.

Y como un día eres joven y al siguiente te emocionas porque consigues la Rosca de Reyes, pues ahi estaba yo tomándole esta foto a ésta, porque logré encontrar una (una!) rosca Bimbo con todo y sus muñecos de tamaño familiar.

Y por andarme burlando del tamaño de semejantes niñitos, me saqué dos de ellos así a quienes sacamos esos niños de la rosca nos toca invitar los tamales neoyorkinos este año.

Time takes me away from those days when I was exploring the Barrio de la Merced illustrating the variety of How to Dress the Children of God on Candlemas Day, but the thought keeps alive those days in which it went hand in hand (almost literally) from my dear Luisa Cortés, chronicler of those streets of pilgrimage and tireless business, who accompanied me to take photos of markets and local businesses so full of color and tradition.

After four years living in US, I have had to tell my friends about these traditions that we keep celebrating with pride, affection and of course a great desire to eat.

A few days before January 6th you have to be attentive to the places where they prepare the Rosca de Reyes. In NYC no one fights to get one of them here, rather it’s a discovery to be able to find where they sell them.

Regarding the flavor and variety, I must say that things in Manhattan are so different from my Mexico City that I still miss a lot. First, there is no way to get those sweet bread roscas “finest from Paris” of La Suiza Bakery; or the coveted bulk roscas that are sold at Costco; or those that in my opinion, are the best of all: The Firol pastry’s ones…. delicious!

One day you are young and the next one you are so excited because you get the king’s sweet bread Rosca, that’s me taking this photo, because I managed to find one (only one!) Rosca Bimbo that comes with a family-sized little Jesus inside. Since I was making fun of the size of such thing, I took out two of them… anyway those who found the little Jesus figure inside their slice of bread need to buy the New York tamales this year.

Año Nuevo Chino 2024

Ya comenzaron a Nueva York las celebraciones sobre el Año Nuevo Chino que en 2024 celebra el año del Dragón. El arte y cultura de este Año Lunar Chino se hacen presentes en escenarios callejeros y distintos eventos artísticos a medida que se acerca el 10 de febrero.

Vivir las celebraciones sobre el Año Nuevo Chino en Nueva York asegura diferentes posibilidades, ya sea al aire libre o en lugares cerrados y resguardados del frío. Por distintos puntos de la ciudad, el Año Nuevo Lunar viste de rojo a la Gran Manzana desde la última semana de enero.

Vivir de primera mano un pedacito del arte y cultura del Año Nuevo Chino en particular con su danza de leones es una de la alegorías mas vistosas que cobra vida gracias a la coordinación y destreza de bailarines y maestros en el arte de hacer mover esos mascarones de fauces y ojos gigantescos.

La música no puede faltar para dar ritmo a los brincos, vueltas y contracciones de estas grandes marionetas con sus espectaculares movimientos.

Si no te gusta el baño de pueblo o padecer el frío y la lluvia propios de esta temporada en Nueva York, puedes buscar espectáculos como los que ofrece el New York Chinese Cultural Center, quienes se presentan en la planta baja de la plaza comercial de Hudson Yards. El espectáculo incluye la popular danza del león, así como músicos y artistas que se lucen por su destreza con yoyos, abanicos y listones que hacen volar dragones de fuego con sus movimientos y espectaculares vestuarios.

Las celebraciones ocurren en diferentes puntos de la ciudad son aptas para todo publico, y muchas de ellas son gratuitas, así que no hay pretexto para salir a disfrutarlas. En Hudson Yards este 2024 se presentan los sábados 01/27, 02/03 y 02/10 a la 1pm, 3pm y 5pm. 

Oficialmente el Año Lunar se cumple el 10 de febrero pero el desfile en las calles de China Town de Nueva York será hasta el 25 de febrero. Es una celebración muy importante para la comunidad china que celebra el año del Dragón, quienes según su horóscopo son todos aquellos que nacieron en los años 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 y 2024.

Por aquí les dejo un ejemplo de lo que pueden encontrar en los eventos callejeros y los espectáculos cerrados de esta celebración del Año Lunar o Año Nuevo Chino. Experiencing the Chinese New Year celebrations in New York ensures different possibilities, whether outdoors or indoor places away from the chilly weather. Different places throughout the city dresses the Big Apple in red from the last week of January to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year.

Experiencing first-hand a little piece of the art and culture of the Chinese New Year, particularly with its lion dance, is one of the most colorful allegories that comes to life thanks to the coordination and skills of dancers and masters who make these lion figures with gigantic maw and eyes move.

Music cannot be missing to give rhythm to the jumps, turns and contractions of these great puppets with their spectacular movements.

If you are not fan of crowds, cold and rainy weather, typical of this season in New York, you can find indoor shows like those of the New York Chinese Cultural Center, which are presented on the ground floor of the Hudson Yards mall. The show includes the popular lion dance, musicians and artists who shine with their skill with yo-yos, fans and ribbons that make fire dragons fly with their movements with spectacular costumes.

The celebrations take place in different parts of the city and are suitable for all audiences, and many of them are free, so there is no excuse to go out and enjoy them. This year at Hudson Yards they will be presented on Saturdays 01/27, 02/03 and 02/10 at 1pm, 3pm and 5pm.

Officially the Lunar Year falls on February 10 but the New York China Town parade will be until February 25th. The also known as a Spring Festival is the most solemn festival for the Chinese community that celebrates the year of the Dragon, who according to their horoscope are all who were born in the years 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012 and 2024.

El Flatiron es un ejemplo brillante de cómo aprovechar cada centímetro de terreno para construir un nuevo edificio. Su arquitectura y forma única aprovechan al máximo el espacio triangular del terreno. Con sus 22 pisos de altura, no sólo se destaca por su elevación, sino que se convirtió en uno de los primeros íconos de la ciudad de Nueva York tras su finalización en 1902.

Daniel Burnham fue el encargado de poner en marcha el ambicioso e innovador diseño que dio origen al antiguamente llamado Fuller Building, mejor conocido hoy como Flatiron Building ubicado en el número 175 de la Quinta Avenida.

El Flatiron se abre paso en una diagonal que no pasa desapercibida para los neoyorquinos, los amantes de la arquitectura y los turistas de todo el mundo, ya que esta zona ofrece distintas opciones para visitar y disfrutar lo que la ciudad tiene durante las distintas épocas del año.

Los cafés de Starbucks tienen un look muy particular o trade dress, como dirían mis amigos abogados en propiedad intelectual, esto es que donde te encuentres, puedes reconocer la imagen comercial o apariencia de un negocio… puedes estar en cualquier lugar del mundo y entras a un Starbucks y se ve y huele idéntico, cierto? Sin embargo hay un local de esta famosa cafetería en la zona de Chelsea de Nueva York ¡¡que está fuera de serie!! Se llama Starbucks Reserve Roasteries.

Los baristas son igual o más amables que los empleados de cualquier Starbucks en el mundo, con la diferencia que este local es enorme y atrapa todos tus sentidos en cuanto pasas por la puerta. Lo que la chica que me vendió mi cappuccino fue la que me dijo que había exclusivamente seis locales de Starbucks de este tipo en todo el mundo, estos Starbucks Reserve Roasteries y las ciudades donde se encuentran son: Nueva York, Seattle, Washington, Shanghai, Milan, Tokyo y Chicago.

The most spectacular Starbucks

Starbucks coffee shops have a very particular look or trade dress, as my lawyer friends specialized in intellectual property would say, which is the appearance of a business or any commercial shop. you could be anywhere in the world and a Starbucks branch would look and smell exactly the same, right? However, there is a branch of this famous coffee shop in Chelsea, New York that is off the charts!! Its name is Starbucks Reserve Roasteries.

The staff are as friendly or even more friendly than the employees of any Starbucks in the world, the difference you would notice immediately is that this place is huge! and captures all your senses as soon as you walk through the door. A girl who served me my cappuccino told me that there are only six amazing of these Starbucks Reserve Roasteries. The cities where you could find them are New York, Seattle, Washington, Shanghai, Milan, Tokyo and Chicago.

Una de las cosas que hicimos cuando fuimos a veranear a Los Hamptons fue un tour de casas espectaculares sobre Meadow Lane. Aquel día en la playa fue mucho más corto de lo que esperábamos porque en ese momento la tormenta Isaias hacía escala también en Los Hamptons, así que no nos dejó mucho tiempo para disfrutar de la playa por los chubascos y el cielo gris.

Sin playa, la tarde la teníamos libre pero la tormenta no se quedó mucho tiempo, así que nosotros aprovechamos que el sol se asomara y no lo pensamos mucho para trepamos a la camioneta y recorrer Meadow Lane. La serie de televisión Billions de Showtime, hizo famosa una enorme casa, supuestamente propiedad del multimillonario Bobby Axelrod.

Por lo general, toda la zona de Los Hamptons tiene su encanto y pasear por Meadow Lane para ver la alucinante zona donde viven los vecinos en la vida real de Axelrod, literalmente no tiene precio… lo que si tiene precio (y de muchos millones de dólares), son esas mansiones detrás de altas bardas a prueba de paparazzis. En su mayoría son espectaculares propiedades que tienen vistas hacia el océano y algunas, también hacia la Bahía de Shinnecock, algunas otras incluso cuentan con muelles privados.

Esta famosa casa ubicada en esta zona nombrada también «Billionaire Lane», se encuentra en el número 1610 de Meadow Lane, ¿La reconoces?
