For Mothers’ Day this year, I treated myself to a bouquet of natural flowers and scenes at Pacifica State Beach.
В чести Дня Матерей в этом году, я себе подарила букет из цветы на природе и природных пейзажей.

Back in April, the Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain, reproductions of old ships, made their annual up the Pacific coast. The ships give educational tours for students from local schools, and give dockside tours to the public.
Hearing that they would sail into the Port of Redwood City, I was excited to finally get the chance to walk around a ship like this. I would love to learn to sail one, but for now, am satiated with having been able to climb aboard, poke around, and learn a bit about how they work.
The Hawaiian Chieftain was built in 1988 in Lahaina. It has modern elements, as it was intended for use as a trade ship, but is fitted with a 19th-century trading vessel rig.
The replica of the Lady Washington was built in 1989 in Aberdeen, Washington, United States, and has been used in the filming of a number of movies, including Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl. She is operated by a professional and volunteer crew, sailing up and down the Pacific coast. If you’re looking for a great job, this might just be it!

Some days, I love the bustle and colors of big cities, and other days, they just make me feel like a tiny, insignificant speck. This photo from San Francisco reflects that tiny feeling. (April 2015)

Ladybugs are said to be bringers of luck. I saw this one in an unexpected place, and thanked her for coming to visit.
Говорят что божые коровки приносят удачу. Я увидела эту в неожиданном месту, и ей поблагодарить за то что ко мне пришла.

California is famous for its poppies, and what better way to mark the end of spring and coming of summer than an homage to these very common (here), but incredibly beautiful flowers. (Photos taken March, 2015)
Калифорнистый мак очень известен, и я не могу придумать лучший способ отметить последные дни весны и начало лета чем фотографическое почтение им. (Снимки сделаны в марте 2015 года)

I moved to the peninsula about two and a half years ago, and after a long period of just trying to settle in, I’ve started to again go out and explore. This set is the first in a series of photos of the towns that make up the SF peninsula.
Welcome to Mountain View!

In March, I had the chance to go to my first Roller Derby match. Without hesitation, I grabbed it! I’ve always wanted to see, up close with my own eyes, what it’s all about.
Knowing it would be difficult to get any good shots at something like this, I brought my camera anyhow. And I’m glad I did. I didn’t get good, clean, crisp action shots, but I’m glad of it. I’ve picked out some of the photos I feel best tell the story of the intensity, and seeming chaos, of this game.
Thanks, Peninsula Roller Girls (http://peninsularollergirls.org/), for an exciting evening!

It took us half the day to get there, but it was well worth it. We got there a little before dusk really set in, and I suppose many would think that is the worst time (besides the night) to go, but I actually thought it made everything seem more vibrantly contrasted and magical.
The low light, sea turtles, tide pools teeming with small critters and the bright green of the foliage on shore made the experience terribly romantic.

In January of this year I headed to the big island of Hawaii for the first time. As we headed out into the Pacific, I was mesmerized by the clouds, the water and the sun. I spent hours staring out the window.
While shots from an airplane window can be difficult and cliche, I decided to give it a try, and to later have some fun with the processing (but not too much).
Here’s what I’ve got.

I tried to capture the beauty of these trees by the Pacific. I’m still working on editing more of the photos from this day, but these seem to be the ones which best captured their energy and charm.
