Here a cute little monkey bank made of tin I think. It was at a flea market or antiques store, so I don’t know if this is antique or just vintage. Anyway, it is cute. He’s got on a red jacket with gold buttons.

This is a very old wooden box, with divided squares lined up in rows. There are 24 segments in all, and the side of the box showing is faded red. The whole thing is a rectangle shape.
I saw this in a restaurant as a wall decoration.

RDP – Glamorous Reds

Flowers as a decoration on hats have been very popular throughout the ages.
The first photo shows a deep red hat with a large group of red flowers on a white mannequin head. I saw this in an antique store.
The next one is a cat wearing a red hat with a flower on the top brim. It is in a coloring book I have.

In a vintage/antique store there was lots of glamour, such as this mannequin dressed in a long, ruffly red dress. She also had a red boa, a red hat, and an expensive necklace.
Then we have the vintage boudoir set up. A round bed covered in red fur spread, with red hats and decorations all around.

July Squares # 18 – Blue – Salt & Pepper Shaker

This is a month of blue! It’s a fun challenge created by Becky of “The Life of B”, and each day we show something blue. The only rule beside blue, is that the photo MUST be SQUARE!
As an added bonus, I’ve found songs with blue in the title or lyrics, or at least something to do with the photo. 🙂

This is a set of Delft Blue salt & pepper shakers. It’s a three piece set, consisting of a small shallow blue boat (white inside), with two figures sitting inside. They are a little Dutch boy and girl dressed in blue. They can be removed from the boat, in case you actually want to use them as salt & pepper shakers. Mostly I think these novelty S & Ps are just for admiring and collecting.
I can’t even remember where I got these, but probably were a gift, as I have a few people that send me what they find at antique and thrift stores where they live.
The bottom of the set is imprinted with a small blue symbol of the maker, I think. I don’t know what it means, but there is a small windmill included in the design. It also says in blue letter writing = Hand painted Delft Blue, and a copyright mark D.A.I.C.

Sabi Saturday & FOWC – Sachet/Sashay

Combining two challenges here today – Sabi Saturday, and Fandango’s One Word Challenge…

The one word is ‘sashay’ and I have something that sounds the same, but is a different thing all together. That is a really old ‘sachet’ package.
That brings us to the description of Sabi Saturday:

As I’ve been going through some old boxes of my parent’s and grand-parents things that they kept over the years, I found this cute little sachet packet.

The note that was written and was inside the little pink container says:

The little pink container must have had some sweet smelling sachet in there. Sachets were used (and may still be used today) to place in a person’s chest-of-drawers to make everything smell nice. I used to use similar ones, myself.
The original box for this says it is a Dorothy Perkins product, and has the word Memories, and Sachet on the top, along with some pink roses.
On the front of the sachet container is a square, with blue flowers, and a small clock.
I think it is really cool that my aunt saved this little item, and my granny still had it, too.
I know the word sashay and sachet are different, but I can imagine my aunt would sashay out and about, with sweet smelling sachet scented clothes. 🙂

This is a vintage enamel ware pitcher, washbowl, and soap dish.
A friend of ours found it in an abandoned house many years ago, and gave it to me.
It is marked on the bottom with 215. D, but I don’t know what that means, even though I tried to find out.
I still use these quite often. It is pretty distressed, chipped, and rusted out a bit (the pitcher has a hole in it). I’ve used the pitcher to scoop up birdseed, and the wash basin I’ve used as a planter, and also a fairy garden at one time.
I love using old things like this, and am always on the look out for small antique/vintage pieces at yard sales.

“Please Introduce Yourself”
Greetings! We are a few of the nice lady’s collection of salt and pepper shakers. There are quite a few more, but they were shy…didn’t want their photo taken. She had us packed away in the shed for awhile, but came to rescue us this afternoon. She gave us all a nice sudsy bath, and dried us off, so we’d look nice.
Hello…I’m the Kangaroo mom, and baby joey kangaroo. See the little one in my pouch? I’m pretty old, as in vintage or antique. Not that it bothers me at all! I was entered one time in the local fair, under antiques and relics, and guess what…I won a ribbon, just for sitting there looking pretty!
Ahem…excuse me Ms. Kangaroo…I was speaking… As I was saying, we come from all over the place, wherever the nice lady finds us. Mostly yard sales, thrift stores, and some of us were sent to her by friends, because they know she collects them. She even has a book that tells all about the collecting of S&Ps (salt & peppers). It was sent to her by a friend, also.
Now that we are out of storage, I hope the nice lady will set us on a shelf somewhere in the house, so she can admire us again. Maybe in the hutch her uncle built. She cleared out a lot of books, so now has the space. 🙂
