Well, I think dinosaurs would have been very intimidating if we’d lived during those days. I loved the Jurassic Park movies but wouldn’t really want to bring these huge (and small) creatures back to roam the land again.

Here are some cute ones I do like, though.

  1.  A yellow plastic toy dino standing up, maybe a brontosaurus?
  2. An aloe vera plant in a white dino planter – a triceratops?
  3. An orange plastic toy dino – a Trex I think
  4. An actual real skull of a dino in a museum
  5. Another succulent plant in a dino planter – Trex

I saw scary movies even when I was little, around 7 or 8 years old, and I loved them all.

At the movies the first scary movie one I saw was called, “Gorgo”, who was a dinosaur, or sea monster.

Well, this is a fun prompt, and there are so many great songs and movies to choose from!

This is one of our favorite movies, and we’ve watched it many times. The story is fun, and the music is great.

It is about a small town group of friends back in the 60s, who are trying to make it big as a rock and roll band.

There is so much excitement when they first hear their song played on the radio, and there is drama between girlfriends & boyfriends.

It is Tom Hanks directorial debut, and he also stars in the movie.

One more of our favorite movies and songs.

  1. Snakes on a Plane, an action thriller, was released in 2006. It starred Sammuel L. Jackson, Julianna Margulies, and Nathan Phillips. I liked this one because it really made me jump when the snakes would pop out. I think we saw this at the movies about 4 times, and I then bought the DVD. And, it has a song at the end that I really like.

So – Elevator music – What is this? I’ve always heard this term, but finding something that could really be called that wasn’t so easy for me, at least.

I figured any slow, boring instrumental song would do, and that’s pretty much the way it is. But there are lots of regular songs that have been turned into the so called ‘elevator music’.

These are songs that are played in the background at places, where you don’t really have to pay attention, but you kind of hear them anyway. You can hear them on elevators (though I’ve never been in one that played music), at the grocery store, department stores at the mall, and any place where people congregate.

This type of music can also be called Muzak, easy listening, & background music.

I’m not sure if this song I chose has been used as such, but probably has been at one time or another.

“Born Free” is a popular song with music by John Barry, and lyrics by Don Black. It was written for the 1966 film of the same name and won an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

I’ve always enjoyed watching the movie musical, “Singing in the Rain”. The details of this is below, but I have a strange connection to the star of the show, Gene Kelly.

Back when we lived in Japan, my husband was in the Army, and worked with a fellow soldier he met who was the nephew of Gene Kelly. Our families visited, and at one time they asked could I baby sit their children (a girl and a boy of elementary school age). Of course I did, as my two girls were friends with their kids anyway.

I babysit them every school day (before and after classes), and was paid well. They also bought me a bicycle so I could ride around with all the kids.

As it happens, we all lost contact with each other as the men were transferred to other military locations in the world.

Ghost busters!

This is a fun song and a great movie, even if it is kind of silly.

What it reminds me of is taking my girls to the skating rink every Saturday morning. They took skating lessons for awhile, and this song played a lot over the loudspeakers. I heard it before I ever saw the movie.

Well, anyway…I had to put that song on here because it’s the first thing I thought of for the prompt word, ‘call’.

My grand-daughter loves anything creepy and strange, and Halloween things, and loves to hunt for ghosts, too. Except this week she was all into Christmas and singing me songs, like the Partridge in a Pear Tree, with the 4 calling birds!

I’ve had several jobs of calling people on the phone…yes, the dreaded and hated telemarketers. I was one. Actually, those jobs were the most fun I’ve ever had at working. I had my share of cranky people, rude comments, and hang ups, but still, I liked it. And I really normally hate talking on the phone. My friends would call me and we’d talk and I’d enjoy it, but I was never one to initiate a call. Even now, it’s rare, except to call a business to see what time they open/close. Anything else, I get all flustered and can’t say it right, what I’m trying to get across. Probably the telemarketing job was easy, because we had a script we had to say every time, and then we could ad lib a bit. Also, the other employees were a fun bunch of people to work with, along with the employers of these many jobs I had.

Well, enough about this for now…

I’ll wish y’all a happy Saturday, with calls or no calls, ghosts or no ghosts…however you like it. 🙂

Bun Vac – Stream of Consciousness Saturday – SOCS

For today’s SOCS we have the word, ‘bun’, to write about. Thanks for the prompt, Linda!

The first thing I think of when I hear or see the word, ‘bun’, is the Bun Vac.

What’s a Bun Vac, you ask? It’s from a 2005  animated movie called, “Wallace and Grommit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit”.

This is a funny movie about Wallace, inventor extraordinaire, and his dog Grommit. He invents a type of vacuum that is used to suck up all the naughty rabbits that are eating the ‘veg’ in the garden.  The Bun Vac is reminds me of the kind of tubes you see at a drive-in bank place. You put something into the container, then put it in the pneumatic vacuum tube to be sucked into the main bank.

Anyway, we thought it was hilarious, and we’d threaten the cats with using the Bun Vac on them, if they were being naughty. Of course it was just a joke. We still have conversations about the Bun Vac, even today in certain circumstances.

So…now I’ve typed ‘bun’ a lot of times, and mentioned rabbits. Maybe that is what the prompt was about? Rabbits and bunnies for the Easter Sunday? Or maybe I could have talked about the type of hair-do shaped into a ‘bun’! I’ve never worn my hair that way, but think about it sometimes. Oh, maybe ‘bun’ is for the type of bread shaped into buns or rolls. There are all kinds of buns, like the bottom buns I sit on when I type these SOCS posts? haha!

Here’s Day # 1 Question:

What movie could you, or did you, see over and over again when you were a teenager?

I didn’t go to a whole lot of movies back then, but this is one I remember was my favorite. I’m pretty sure I saw it a couple of times at the movie theater, and I’ve watched it many times on TV since then. I still love it.

The movie I’m talking about is…”To Sir With Love”. It came out in 1967, and starred Sidney Poitier. It was based on the semi-autobiographical novel by E. R Braithwaite (pub. 1959). It features a lot of good pop music, and Lulu, a prominent singer, sang the title song. It also featured some music by the Mindbenders, a band from the same time. Funny story…a friend and I saw the Mindbenders in person, when they came to our town for a concert. We didn’t get to go to the concert, but we did go out to the airport to greet them when they arrived. We were thrilled to actually see them, of course! 🙂
