VISION
Palm Beach sits at a point on the Gold Coast where the pace drops and the land has room to speak. Steer came to us with a site of genuine coastal quality and a clear brief: residential living that earns its setting rather than competing with it. The challenge was to build something that felt restorative without announcing itself.
"The arched forms and layered planting aren't decorative. They're a direct response to how light moves across this site, and how a body moves through a building."
Chrisney Formosa, Principal, Plus Studio
SOLUTION
The building is organised around a hierarchy of experience, with a wellness floor at its core. A sequenced series of thermal zones, outdoor showers, private sauna and steam room, where warm brass, cool stone and shifting temperature do work that architecture rarely attempts. Arched forms and rippled planting respond to how light moves across the site through the day. Residential floors are oriented to maximise cross-ventilation and coastal aspect, making Palm Beach's climate a passive design tool. Pale stone, honest timber and a considered material palette give the building its texture, felt before it's seen.
