Throwback Thursday – Gifts

This week Lauren gives us the topic of gifts we’ve received or given. Thanks, Lauren! 🙂

It’s hard to say much about gifts. I like giving them and I like getting them.
Except now that most of us are all older, we don’t any of us really need any more stuff!
We still give the grand-kids some things, especially the youngest. The older one is always happy with money to buy whatever he wants. We do give their parents (our daughters and sons in law) money, too.
For ourselves, me and the Mr. we don’t do gifts any more. Like I said, we don’t need any more stuff, if we do need something or want something we just go get it.
Used to we’d give gifts to all the family members, which were quite a few. I guess they liked what we picked out for them. Who knows? Now the big family get togethers don’t happen, as most all have passed on.
I remember one time early on that the Mr. didn’t get his paycheck until after work on Christmas Eve. At that point I could go shopping for everyone’s gift. I had a hundred dollars to spend before the stores closed, and they closed early that day. Also I had to get home to wrap them all, and we had a get together with a friend’s family that evening. I did manage it, though. I think my spending limit on each person was only five dollars.
Another Christmas a few years later on, our dogs got into the presents under the tree and tore a lot of them up. So then we made a fence around the tree made of chicken wire to keep them out. It worked!
For a lot of gifts to people I’d make something, like embroidered dish towels, cute plaster of Paris items that I’d paint, and pomegranate plants I started from seed. They make a real cute plant. I always liked doing the wrapping of the gifts, too.
Well, lots of years, lots of gifts, and lots of memories!
