Today’s prompt and theme is to find a song that features a keyboard. This is the first one I thought of, because it starts out with a great keyboard sound, and continues throughout the song.

From a Wiki article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_My_Fire

The band started playing the song in performances in April 1966, and extended it with a jazzy improvisation. When the Doors performed the song at live concerts, Manzarek played the song’s bass line with his left hand on a Fender Rhodes Piano Bass, while performing the main keyboard lines on a Vox Continental using his right hand. When they came to record the song later in the year, producer Paul A. Rothchild brought in session musician Larry Knechtel to overdub a Fender Precision Bass guitar to double the keyboard bass line.[14][16][17][18] Rothchild also suggested that the recording repeat the introductory motif at the end of the track.[14]

“Light My Fire”, by The Doors, is a single on their 1967 album, “The Doors”. It was written by Robby Kreiger, Ray Manzaarek, and Jim Morrison, and is on the Elektra label.

“Light My Fire” has been widely considered as the Doors’ signature song,[42][43][44] and a quintessential work of the psychedelic rock genre.[2] In 2004 and 2010, the song was ranked at number 35 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,[

You know that it would be untrueYou know that I would be a liarIf I was to say to youGirl, we couldn’t get much higher
Come on, baby, light my fireCome on, baby, light my fireTry to set the night on fire
The time to hesitate is throughNo time to wallow in the mireTry now we can only loseAnd our love become a funeral pyre
Come on, baby, light my fireCome on, baby, light my fireTry to set the night on fire, yeah
The time to hesitate is throughNo time to wallow in the mireTry now we can only loseAnd our love become a funeral pyre
Come on, baby, light my fireCome on, baby, light my fireTry to set the night on fire, yeah
You know that it would be untrueYou know that I would be a liarIf I was to say to youGirl, we couldn’t get much higher

I always liked most of the Doors songs, and this is what I found about this one:

From the Wiki article:

According to Bruce Botnick‘s liner notes the song was initially referred to by its various working titles; “I’m Gonna Love You”, from a line in the chorus, or “Hit Me”, a reference to blackjack. The opening line was originally “C’mon, hit me … I’m not afraid”, the line thus reflecting the first person vantage point of a blackjack player.[2] Morrison reportedly[citation needed] changed the lyric out of concern that rowdy crowds at their live shows would mistakenly believe that “hit me” was a challenge to physically assault him.

At the end of the song, Morrison can be heard saying, “Stronger than dirt”, which was the slogan of the Ajax household cleaning company, because the last four notes of “Touch Me” were the same as those in an Ajax commercial and as a mocking criticism of Krieger, John Densmore, and Ray Manzarek wanting to accept an offer from Buick to use “Light My Fire” in a commercial. The deal was aborted when Morrison opposed it. This vocal was omitted on the single version, which was a different mix.

“Touch Me”, by The Doors, can be found on their album, “The Soft Parade”, released in 1968. It was written by Robby Krieger, and is on the Elektra label.

[Intro]

[Verse]
Yeah! Come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, babe

Can’t you see that I am not afraid?
What was that promise that you made?
Why won’t you tell me what she said?
What was that promise that you made?

[Hook]
Now, I’m going to love you
Till the heavens stop the rain

I’m going to love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I

[Verse]
Come on, come on, come on, come on
Now touch me, babe

Can’t you see that I am not afraid?
What was that promise that you made?
Why won’t you tell me what she said?
What was that promise that you made?

[Hook]
Now, I’m going to love you
Till the heavens stop the rain

I’m going to love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I

Till the heavens stop the rain
I’m going to love you
Till the stars fall from the sky for you and I

[Sax Solo]

[Outro]
Stronger than dirt

The first song for the challenge, I have chosen, “People Are Strange”, by The Doors. It was written by Jim Morrison and Robby Krieger, and released in September of 1967. It appeared on the album, “Strange Days”, and was classified as Psychedelic Rock.

I love all the Door’s songs, and have listened to them off and on for years. This is one of my favorites, because I agree…people are strange. I love to just sit and watch people go by, as I imagine what the stories of their lives is like. I wonder what story they imagine of us, as we pass by?
