1. I was remembering some odd things I used to do as a kid …
a) I used to eat the leaves off of our elm tree in the back yard. They tasted good for some reason. I guess they weren’t poison. My swing set was right under the branches that hung down, and on a back swing I’d grab a slender branch and pull off the leaves as the swing went forward again. I guess you could call it a swinging salad! One time a friend came home with me, and we were swinging and I had her try the leaves, too. She liked them!
2. We had petunia flowers growing in the flower beds at home when I was a kid. Sometimes I’d pick a flower and suck out the nectar. It was sweet. I guess that’s why the bees liked it? I don’t know, but I sure did. You didn’t get but a tiny taste, so I had to pick several flowers. When my girls were little I told them this, and tried to get them to do it too, but they weren’t impressed at all. haha
3. A fun fact I sent to my daughter this morning was about sugar cane. It said that one lump of sugar like you buy at the store, is equal to 3 feet worth of a sugar cane plant. I know we buy cane sugar and it sweetens lots of things we buy. Well, when I was a kid there was a large group/stand of sugar canes behind our house. Us kids would break some off and chew/suck on it. It was sweet, and we enjoyed it. My daughter asked if sugar cane grew here in Texas, so I looked it up. Google says Texas is the 4th largest producer of sugar cane! So, yes it does grow here. I don’t know why there was some in behind our house, but it was really large/tall.

And here’s a song I’ve had in my mind for a few days.
