🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃🍃

1. I was remembering some odd things I used to do as a kid …

a) I used to eat the leaves off of our elm tree in the back yard. They tasted good for some reason. I guess they weren’t poison. My swing set was right under the branches that hung down, and on a back swing I’d grab a slender branch and pull off the leaves as the swing went forward again. I guess you could call it a swinging salad! One time a friend came home with me, and we were swinging and I had her try the leaves, too. She liked them!

2. We had petunia flowers growing in the flower beds at home when I was a kid. Sometimes I’d pick a flower and suck out the nectar. It was sweet. I guess that’s why the bees liked it? I don’t know, but I sure did. You didn’t get but a tiny taste, so I had to pick several flowers.  When my girls were little I told them this, and tried to get them to do it too, but they weren’t impressed at all. haha

3. A fun fact I sent to my daughter this morning was about sugar cane.  It said that one lump of sugar like you buy at the store, is equal to 3 feet worth of a sugar cane plant. I know we buy cane sugar and it sweetens lots of things we buy. Well, when I was a kid there was a large group/stand of sugar canes behind our house. Us kids would break some off and chew/suck on it. It was sweet, and we enjoyed it. My daughter asked if sugar cane grew here in Texas, so I looked it up. Google says Texas is the 4th largest producer of sugar cane! So, yes it does grow here. I don’t know why there was some in behind our house, but it was really large/tall.

SOCS – ship

SOCS – ship

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 10, 2024

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ship.’” Use it as a noun, a verb, or slang … or all three! Enjoy!

***

I just got through looking up some words that have ‘ship’ in them. There were so  many, and most I’d never heard of. Now, I’m tired of even seeing or hearing that word, ‘ship’.

You know how it is when you see or say a word a bunch of times, until it has no meaning, and it looks wrong and sounds wrong when you see or say it? I guess our minds are overloaded with that word. That’s how it is right now.

Okay, what can I write about it. I’ve never been on a ship. And, what makes a floating vessel a ship instead of a boat? they both float don’t they? Is it the size? I’ve been on a boat before, a motor boat my uncle had. I’ve been on a boat ride through a zoo river to see the sights, and I’ve been on a boat that went around Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to see the Memorial. I don’t call any of those a ship.

I can think of some songs with that word, but I’m not going to play them right now. I also know some other compound words with ship, but I imagine you all know them, too.

There are  lots of fun phrases and sayings with ship. Look them up if you want to. I’m sure you’ve heard them before.

Now for something else I just thought of …

A guy thought he was hip

He went to sea on a ship

But when he bragged

About who he shagged

She gave him a big fat lip.

Writer’s Workshop – Follow the Prompts

Writer’s Workshop – Follow the Prompts

***

The link below is where you find several prompt questions and other instructions.

For John’s challenge:

Writer’s Workshop Prompts for May 30, 2024

***

Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word “aunt”.
  2. Write a post in exactly 12 sentences.
  3. Describe your favorite shopping mall.
  4. Book Review!
  5. List your favorite YouTube channels (no more than 5).
  6. Write about the most humid place you’ve been.

***

My answers:

1. I’ll try the # 2 prompt – write a post in exactly 12 sentences.

2. The # 1 prompt is ‘aunt’. I have some aunts, but only have one that lives here in town. I never called any of my aunts, ‘aunt’.

3. My favorite shopping mall is called South Plains Mall. It’s the only mall we have ever had. It’s not very big compared to big city malls.

4. We don’t go to the mall any more. It is too expensive.

5. I don’t have any favorite YouTube channels. I see some here and there, mostly if someone else posts one I’ll look at it if it seems funny.

6. Humidity? We have none here, or barely any. Usually it is less than 10 percent – very dry. We lived in south Texas before, and it is very humid down by the Gulf of Mexico where we were. Also central TX is more humid than we are used to.

7. We’re used to breathing dust, not water.

8. I ran out of the prompt suggestions, and wrote more than one sentence for them. Does that count?

9. I just pushed the ‘save’ button on here, because it will take me a few minutes to think of something else to type.

10. Sometimes I forget to push the save button, and I lose whatever it was I typed. Then I have to remember and type it over.

11. Eleven … that’s the number I’m on now. I’m sure there was something I was thinking about mentioning … hmmm

12. Sorry, took a 5 min. break to watch a segment on TV. We leave it mostly on the creepy kind of shows, like Paranormal Caught on Tape. This one, no one was home except 2 cats, and the camera that was left running caught a shadow person, a closing door, a table moving, and then even the camera moved and shut off. It is not supposed to do that. The cats were freaked out! haha – well not funny really, but haha I was thinking it feels like home here. We’ve had all that happen before, just not on camera.

P.S. oh I forgot and skipped the # 4 prompt – book review. Oh well, I’ve done whole A to Z months with book reviews.

No Peeking

No Peeking

***

So, my eyes are burning and tired alredy this morning, and I’m just going to close tem…yeah….alredy closed. I’m typing this all without peeking, except for a little bit. Have to see where the publish button is at the end, and go to the peace sign symbol place to get the little copy, but that’s all.

There will \probably be some mess ups, but mostly I know wehre all the letter keys on the keuyboard are with oout looking. I learned tis many many years ago.

We had an old manual Underwood typewriter…a big clunky old thing that I leanred to tope on when I ws a kid. There were little caps we put on top of all the letters to hide them. We did have a cheat chart though in case we needed it.

Anyway, to rest my eyes, I’m doing this without looking much. Nothing is going on here this moring. We had a tiny bit of thunder, but I don’t think it more than sprinkled earlier.

The mister is watching TV and going from one channel to another with American Pickers, to Friends, to whatever else.

I’ve had my coffee, and iced tea …need to get some more.  Breakfast is long gone and dishes done too.

I don’t know what I’ll post today. I did the Flower of the Day one already…now what? I mostly never know. Oh, I need to go listen to some songs songs…from yesterday’s Song LyricSunday posts. That’s always fun to do.

I wonder how many words I’ve tuyped already? Does it look like a lot or not? I’m still resisting peeking at this for a little longer.

I took a tiny peek out the back door (not y\my tuyping) and the baby kitties are out there playing in the yard, and climbng on the scratching post. They are so cute!!!

WEll, maybe this is enough for now, and I’ll think of a real post about something in a little while.

Here’s wishing you all a fun and interesting day!

Random Post # 18 – 3 Weird Things

Standard

Random Post # 18 – 3 Weird Things

***

Sometimes I just sit and think about things that are weird to me. Do you do that?

Here’s some random thoughts of mine…

  1. Finger Clicks – I use one of the mouse things with my desktop computer. When I press/click one part of the mouse it takes me to whatever I want to look at on line. So I was wondering just how many ‘finger clicks’ I’ve ever done in my computering history. It must be in the billions! And, my pointer finger that I use for this is still in good working order after all that ‘exercise’. 🙂
  2. Do you ever wonder about the cleaning product called SOS pads? Those steel wool pads that have some kind of soap embedded in them, are great for scrubbing stubborn, stuck on food off dishes and pans, or many other uses. The thing is, I’ve always thought the soap stuff was poison! I don’t know why. Maybe it is, well of course if you try to eat it, it is, but just to clean with and then rinse it off your dishes and hands, I figured it was still poison. I have to wash whatever it is over again with regular dish soap, just to get the poison soap off. 🙂
  3. Phone Tones – I think I’ve mentioned this before, about the tone/signals we get on our cell phones, when we get a notification of something. Especially in blogging, when I get a notice of a followed blogger’s new post, I get a certain tone on my phone to let me know. This can be pretty immediately, even if the signal is coming from another country. So…when I post something new, do you get a tone/signal on Your phone? It’s weird that you and I can make other peoples phones make a sound – just like that! 🙂

Anyway, just some weird things I think about. I have more, which I’ll do another time.

What are some weird things you think about? 🙂
