RDP Tuesday! Reptilian!

Here are some tongue twisters I did for a challenge in 2017 – reptile was the prompt

  1. Slithery Sam sneaky snake likes licking large lakes.
  2. Lizard Lizzy Little Legs laid a lotta little eggs.
  3. Waiter, Peter gator, wants to be a caterer.

***

Two toy plastic dinosaurs, a yellow brontosaurus  standing up, on the left, and an orange Trex on the right.

“The Lizard”, by Saigon Kick, is from their 1992 studio album of the same name. It was written and performed by Jason Bieler and Matt Kramer, and is on the Third Stone/Atlantic labels.

When I tell you people to do the lizard,
Pull yourself together and take a listen
Take my flask and sip the liquid
Forgive me now for what I might deliver

Look around

All around

Lick your friends until they start to quiver
I ask myself if to give is richer

Look around

All around

Save yourself from falling down, all around
There’s no chance you can be found underground

The Lizard….

There’s a thing we say about the foolish wisher
Just do the dance and become the Lizard

Look around

All around

Save yourself from falling down, all around
There’s no chance you can be found underground

The Lizard….

RDP Thursday – LIZARD

***

So, today for the Ragtag Daily Prompt we have the word Lizard. I like lizards, but only see them once in awhile. Here is a medley of Lizard posts I’ve done before:

Tongue Twister I made up …

Lizard Lizzy Little Legs laid a lotta little eggs.

***

Photos I took of lizards I’ve seen, either in a wildlife exhibit or a pet store …

Five different lizards!

The first one I know is a skink. He looks brown, white, & black scaly. He was probably about a foot long. The next one is kind of gray, sitting on a green leaf, and the next one has bands of stripes of gray, yellow and pink. He’s on a brown branch in his habitat at the pet store. The next one is a horned lizard, and looks like a tiny dinosaur of brownish gray. We used to have these all over and we’d catch them when I was a kid. We called them Horny Toads. Last is a chameleon lizard, It was shown at a wildlife show we went to. Last is  a funny sign at the pet store that shows a cartoonish green lizard with a big head. He is saying “My mother thinks I’m cute”. 🙂

One day we were at the Dairy Queen restaurant at lunch time. I noticed the sign out front, and from where I was sitting I could only see part of it. It was advertising the Blizzard, which is a very thick ice cream treat.

Well, the part I could see only said ‘Lizzard’, as the ‘B’ was blocked from my view. It struck me funny, saying to get an original ‘lizzard’ meal deal.

So, I got to thinking…how do you spell ‘lizard’? Is it with one letter z or two? It turns out it is with only one letter z. Why? It seems as though they short-changed the little lizards of the world, by only granting them one letter z. Lots of other words have two, such as the Blizzard treat, a real weather blizzard, and even a chicken has two in their gizzards.

I say we should give the lizards another letter z.

And, as Little Orphan Annie said, “Leapin’ Lizards!”

***

This little chameleon was one I saw at a pet store. He’s really cute, but I’d bet he’d much rather be out in the wild.

***

The chameleon lizard can be found from the rain forests to very dry climates. They are known for being able to change their skin color to blend in as a camouflage to their surroundings.

***

Chameleon – green and tan – sitting on leaves

***

Last we have a song about being like a lizard … the photo shows the album cover which is brilliant green and scaly looking, with a drawing of a lizard and some designs in black and gold. Very cool.

“The Lizard”, by Saigon Kick, is from their 1992 studio album of the same name. It was written and performed by Jason Bieler and Matt Kramer, and is on the Third Stone/Atlantic labels.

Six Feet Under

~

Six times six times six, again

Dark and lonely, was I in…

This moldy grave.

Barely breathing, heart still beating…

None to hear my mad-man rave.

Cursed and cast into the void,

For eons have I toyed…

To claim all psyche’s pure and good…

To corrupt them, if I could.

Six feet under, left asunder,

Tricked them, now they’re mine…

They never knew I was immortal,

To rise again…it’s time.

Years of torture, hell’s departure…

Vengence will be taken.

I’ll tempt, and bend, and lure to sin…

And, they shall be forsaken.

RDP – Jinx Caprice

RDP Wednesday – CAPRICE

***

For the Ragtag Daily Prompt, we are challenged with the word ‘caprice’.

This story is one I’ve shared before, but every time I hear the word I think of this horrible jinx car we had.

***

JINX CAR

We owned a jinx car. Yes, we did. It was a pre-owned ’66 or ’67 Chevrolet Caprice. A big, old, boat of a car, with plush overstuffed seats, electric windows, and temperature controlled air conditioning. I despised that car.

The day we test drove it, it shimmied all over the highway. I think the wheels needed alignment, or something. We bought it, anyway.

First of all, I didn’t even want a different car. We traded in our ’65 Mustang (which I loved), for this monstrosity. Strike one…Strike two…the wheel thing…and well, the strikes kept coming. One thing or another was always wrong with it. You name it, it needed repairs.

When I first drove it up to where I worked at the time, everyone wanted to see our new car. So, out to the parking lot we all went. One girl was not impressed. She took me aside to tell me…this car is a jinx. Seems this very car had just been traded in by her grandparents, and they’d had nothing but trouble from it. I guess back then there were no ‘lemon’ laws or disclosure rules.

Anyway, the jinx car lived up to it’s reputation. We had it for awhile, costing us more in repairs than it was worth. Then, after coming home from overseas, I got that car out of storage. I got rid of it…traded it in…yes, I did. I was surprised the car lot people even gave me a dime for it.

I immediately bought another car that I loved…a ’69 Camaro. Now, that was a car. I looked much better driving a cool Camaro around town, in my twenties, instead of the old jinx car, for sure. And I don’t remember the new one giving us a bit of trouble!

Thank you for reading! Hope you enjoyed hearing about the jinx car!

RDP – Ragtag Daily Prompt – Teleport

THURSDAY PROMPT: TELEPORT

***

***

Today’s prompt word is, ‘Teleport’, and is one of my favorite words and subjects, as you can see by the name of my blog.

Here’s a post I wrote in 2016 about the book, “The Time Machine”, by H. G. Wells. Some of you may have seen this before, but a lot of you haven’t, so this is a good time to show it again, and mention how my blog got it’s name.

***

“The Time Machine”, by H. G. Wells. It was first written and published in 1895.

I’m pretty sure I got this book from the local library book sale. I get most of my used books there, as they have really good prices for them…50 cents for paperbacks, and $1.00 for hardback.

I actually had never read this book before. I’d seen the movies made from it, and both of the ones I saw were good. I preferred the one made in 1960 best. It starred Rod Taylor, Alan Young, and Yvette Mimieux.

IMG_2865 IMG_2910 IMG_2909

The subject of the book is of course a time machine. A scientist had invented a machine that would be able to transport a person to a different time in history, either past or future. He gave a presentation to his fellow colleagues, but they were skeptical of the whole thing. After the meeting, the Time Traveler, as the main character was called in the book, tried out his machine.

As the time for their next meeting commenced, everyone showed up except for the host. Then, just before everyone was getting ready to leave, he shows up, all bedraggled. He told them he’d time traveled to the future, and he’d tell them all about it.

This is the main part of the book, his telling of his adventures in the future time. He was in the same location as they were in now, just way into the future. He’d met a strange group of people, called Eloi, and their enemies, called the Morlocks. At one point, he even loses his time machine, and has to find it before he can return to the present time.

He is befriended by a sweet girl Eloi, named Weena, who shows him around, and he wants to bring her back with him. It’s all very interesting how he deals with the world of the future, that is so different.

I would recommend reading this book.

***

That brings me to the name of my blog…’teleportingweena’. 🙂 I chose it because I love the story of the Time Machine, and the girl, Weena. It is about time travel, and you never know exactly where you’ll land, or what you’ll see. Just like the vision I had when I started this blog. Also, our tabby cat was named Rowena, and we called her Weena. I’m convinced she could teleport herself to other dimensions. Sound kind of wacky, I know, but cats are mysterious, so you never quite know for sure. And now, Weena has been teleported across the Rainbow Bridge, and we miss her.

This is 'Weena' ...she teleports herself!

Weena

***

I did read the definitions of ‘time travel’ and ‘teleportation’. Here’s what I understood from that: Time Travel (a time machine) will send you through time…past or future. Teleportation (no machine), moves you to a different location in the present time.

Have you ever been teleported somewhere? I think I have. 🙂

RDP – Ragtag Daily Prompt – Fair

RDP# Tuesday prompt: Fair

***

We have a fair that comes to town every year at the end of September. It has all the usual fun things to do and see as most any fair, such as amusement rides of all kinds, carnival games, side shows, and good food to eat. There are also lots of stalls with interesting things to buy.

When I was in elementary school, we’d get free tickets to go to the fair. Here’s one of mine.

There are also livestock and flower, and farmer’s harvest exhibits to see. There are separate buildings for these, and also a merchant’s building. In there you can see all kinds of vendors selling their newest products. Another building is for crafts that people have made, like art, cakes, and canning foods. Antiques & relics displays are one of my favorite to look at. I’ve even entered some of mine, and won a few ribbons. Plus they pay you if you win a ribbon. It’s just a small amount, but fun to get.

One time I had a job making muzzles for sheep. The lady who showed her sheep in the fair used the ones I made.

There is also a building for music concerts. There are usually several well known entertainers who perform on successive nights at the fair. I’ve seen Charlie Pride a few times, and also Dwight Yoakum there.

On the off season, at the fair grounds, they would turn one of the buildings into a skating rink. It was called Fairpark Skating Rink. I’d go there every Friday night with my friends, to have fun skating, and listening to music. This is one place that Buddy Holly played his music, in the very early days.

We haven’t gone to the fair in a few years, though. Still, at this time of year it just seems like fair weather, when the days are hot, but you can tell there is a change coming toward Autumn, and it’s my favorite time of the year.

Today, for the RDP prompt, we have the word, ‘blue’, and can use it any which way we want.

I know I’ve posted this song before, but it’s what came to mind with the ‘blue’ prompt.

I like this song a lot, because it was the theme song for my Jr./Sr. prom. The song was popular at the time, and I was on the decorating committee, along with some others. The photos are a few of the mementos I saved in my scrapbook. We had the napkins printed with the words, ‘L’amour est bleu’, and also the little autograph booklet. It was also the colors of our school, which was blue and silver.

***

“L’amour est bleu”, by Claudine Longet, was written in 1967 by Pierre Cour, and sung by Claudine Longet in 1968. It is on the A & M label.
