Our prompt: An Alternative Love Song from your 50’s (if you are younger, choose your own)

I don’t know if this is mainly an alternative band, but this song was labeled as such. And, I like most all their songs, including this one. It also falls into the right time frame for the prompt.

The only difference isTo let love replace all our hate

From Wiki:

Higher” is a song by American rock band Creed. It was released on August 31, 1999, as the lead single from their second studio album, Human Clay. The song became the bands breakthrough hit as it was their first song to reach the top ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at number seven in July 2000. It spent a total of 57 weeks upon the survey, the longest stay for any Creed song on the Hot 100. “Higher” also became the band’s second chart-topping hit on rock radio as it topped both the Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, for a then-record of 17 weeks.

When dreaming I’m guided to another worldTime and time againAt sunrise I fight to stay asleep‘Cause I don’t wanna leave the comfort of this place‘Cause there’s a hunger, a longing to escapeFrom the life I live when I’m awakeSo let’s go thereLet’s make our escapeCome on, let’s go thereLet’s ask can we stay?
Can you take me higher? To a place where blind men seeCan you take me higher? To a place with golden streets
Although I would like our world to changeIt helps me to appreciateThose nights and those dreamsBut, my friend, I’d sacrifice all those nightsIf I could make the Earth and my dreams the sameThe only difference isTo let love replace all our hateSo let’s go thereLet’s make our escapeCome on, let’s go thereLet’s ask can we stay?
Can you take me higher? To a place where blind men seeCan you take me higher? To a place with golden streets
So let’s go thereYeah, let’s go thereCome on, let’s go thereLet’s ask can we stay?
Up high I feel like I’m alive for the very first timeSet up high I’m strong enough to take these dreamsAnd make them mine
Set up high I’m strong enough to take these dreamsAnd make them mine
Can you take me higher? To a place where blind men seeCan you take me higher? To a place with golden streets
Can you take me higher? To a place where blind men seeCan you take me higher? To a place with golden streets

  • A Love Song that includes a commitment or a promise. Thanks, Jim, for this challenging prompt. Please, check out his blog, “A Unique Title For Me

***

❤️❤️

Here’s a song I’ve always liked, which includes a promise that a guy made to his sweetheart. But seems something must have gone wrong, because he’s saying he’ll always remember her, like she’s gone away or something.

I didn’t see a reference to the meaning of this song, so that’s my opinion only.

***

We’ve had our share of hard times
But that’s the price we paid
And through it all we kept the promise that we made
I swear you’ll never be lonely

“I Remember You”, a single from the album, “Skid Row”, was released in 1989, on the Atlantic label. It was written by Rachel Bolan and Dave Sabo.

***

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
The wind would whisper and I’d think of you
And all the tears you cried, that called my name
And when you needed me I came through

I paint a picture of the days gone by
When love went blind and you would make me see
I’d stare a lifetime into your eyes
So that I knew you were there for me
Time after time you were there for me

Remember yesterday – walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sand – I remember you
Through the sleepless nights and every endless day
I’d wanna hear you say – I remember you

We spend the summer with the top rolled down
Wished ever after would be like this
You said I love you babe, without a sound
I said I’d give my life for just one kiss
I’d live for your smile and die for your kiss

Remember yesterday – walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sand – I remember you
Through the sleepless nights and every endless day
I’d wanna hear you say – I remember you

We’ve had our share of hard times
But that’s the price we paid
And through it all we kept the promise that we made
I swear you’ll never be lonely

Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
Washed away a dream of you
But nothing else could ever take you away
‘Cause you’ll always be my dream come true
Oh my darling, I love you

Remember yesterday – walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sand – I remember you
Through the sleepless nights and every endless day
I’d wanna hear you say – I remember you

Remember yesterday – walking hand in hand
Love letters in the sand – I remember you
Through the sleepless nights and every endless day
I’d wanna hear you say – I remember you

The prompt for today is a love song for the flora and fauna.

❤️❤️

A song that is sad and meaningful, yet leaves a message of what could and has happened when we don’t take care of our planet with it’s air, water, animals, and plants.

From a Wiki article:

“Seminole Wind”, by John Anderson was released from his album of the same name in 1992, It was written by John Anderson, and is on the BNA label

***

In Seminole Wind, John Anderson sings about how the Seminole group of Native Americans had to watch immigrants drain the Florida Everglades in search of gold and silver. After the immigrants dug up the natural resources, the land was left bare.

The song talks about the destructiveness of draining the earth because of economic development.

***

Ever since the days of oldMen would search for wealth untoldThey’d dig for silver and for goldAnd leave the empty holes
And way down south in the EvergladesWhere the black water rolls and the sawgrass wavesThe eagles fly and the otters playIn the land of the Seminole
So blow, blow Seminole windBlow like you’re never gonna blow againI’m calling to you like a long-lost friendBut I know who you areAnd blow, blow from the OkeechobeeAll the way up to MicanopyBlow across the home of the SeminoleThe alligator and the gar
Progress came and took its tollAnd in the name of flood controlThey made their plans and they drained the landNow the Glades are goin’ dry
And the last time I walked in the swampI stood up on a Cypress stumpI listened close and I heard the ghostOf Osceola cry
So blow, blow Seminole windBlow like you’re never gonna blow againI’m calling to you like a long-lost friendBut I know who you areAnd blow, blow from the OkeechobeeAll the way up to MicanopyBlow across the home of the SeminoleThe alligator and the gar

Being from Lubbock, TX, the hometown of the late, great Buddy Holly, I chose this song from him. I do love all his songs. We have lots of reminders of his life and legacy here, including a museum center, street named after him and his band, murals, and a statue at the walk of fame here, a large concert venue named after him, and also his grave site.

Holly’s widow, Maria Elena Holly, claimed that the song was written for her as a wedding gift. On April 29, 2011, Mrs. Holly unveiled the never-before-seen “True Love Ways” photo of their wedding kiss, now displayed at P.J. Clarke’s above Table 53, the table where they became engaged while on their first date, on June 20, 1958.[9]

The song quote:

I’m gonna wake up in your arms tomorrow
You gonna make it the night of my life
I’m gonna wake up in your arms tomorrow
Thank you for takin’ me to paradise tonight.

***

I really like this song because it has good music and lyrics. I remember it most from hearing it on the radio, and also from playing it on our record player. It was the summer we lived in Sinton TX, and were very close to the TX coast, by Corpus Christi. There was a hurricane coming, and I remember some preparations were being made around town, just in case it came our way. Turned out it didn’t get as close as we’d thought. This was a major hurricane named “Alicia”, and it came ashore at Galveston TX.

For some reason, along with watching TV hurricane coverage, we were playing this song over and over that day.

Here’s the actual 45 record we almost wore out, playing it so many times during the hurricane warnings. 🙂

From Wiki:

Paradise Tonight” is a song written by Bill Kenner and Mark Wright, and recorded by American country music artists Charly McClain and Mickey Gilley. It was released in June 1983 as the second single from the album Paradise. The song was the most successful of three releases by McClain and Gilley as a duo. The single went to number one for one week and stayed a total of thirteen weeks on the top 40 country chart.[

I have never felt like this
For once I’m lost for words
Your smile has really thrown me
This is not like me at all
I never thought I’d know
The kind of love you’ve shown meNow, no matter where I am
No matter what I do
I see your face appearing
Like an unexpected song
An unexpected song
That only we are hearing

I don’t know what is going on
Can’t work it out at all
Whatever made you choose me
I just can’t believe my eyes
You look at me as though
You couldn’t bear to lose me

Now, no matter where I am
No matter what I do
I see your face appearing
Like an unexpected song
An unexpected song
That only we are hearing

I have never felt like this
For once I’m lost for words
