One Word Sunday – Creepy

I could talk about fake fingernails, like these I saw at a nail salon one time. They are examples of what you can get done to your own nails. A pyramid of crooked fingers with long pointy nails of all colors. To me they look like creepy claws!

And these six creepy clown creatures are in our neighbor’s yard for Halloween! One with red hair and a mean face is way over 6 feet tall.

Here are the prompts for this week’s Writer’s Workshop:

  1. Write a post based on the word alarm.
  2. Write a post in exactly 13 sentences.

  4. Tell us about your favorite disk jockey, past or present.
  5. Write about the first time you went to a sporting event.

1. I will try to write a post in only 13 sentences, but I know it won’t be easy.

2. I probably went to my first sporting event when I was a kid, and my dad took me to a rodeo in our town. 🐎🐎🐎

3. The rodeo was going along fine until the clown came out and scared me. 🤡🤡🤡

4. He was clowning around and tossed something up into the audience, which I thought was a skunk; I still don’t know what it was, maybe just a towel? 🦨 🦨 🦨

5. The object came right toward me, so I screamed and spilled my coke and popcorn. 🍿🍿🍿

6. I’ve hated clowns ever since.

7. Now for the first suggestion – alarm.

8. Is an alarm the same as a siren?

9. We finally, after many years got a bunch of sirens to announce a tornado in our city, but honestly, if it was raining and hailing and lots of wind happening, we could not hear the sirens at all. 🌪️ 🌪️ 🌪️

10. They test the sirens every so often, and I’ve opened the back door to try to hear it on a perfectly calm and quiet day, and if I concentrate really really hard I can just faintly hear something, so what good are they … none!

11. One time (in Japan) I caught the stove on fire, and called the fire department and they came with sirens blaring. 🚒🚒🚒

12. They took care of the fire before much damage, except for the stove, but it was embarrassing when the episode was written up in the Stars and Stripes Army newspaper under local emergency calls.

13. And here it is the number 13, and the final sentence of the prompt, so I can say Woo Hoo I did it. 🙂

Three huge creepy clown decorations that were in our neighbor’s yard for Halloween!

CLOWN ACT

Clowns are creepy. Agree? Disagree?

Do you like clowns? Do you love clowns? It seems like it’s a love/hate kind of situation, regarding people’s feelings about them.

Surely, the people who put on a clown’s costume and makeup are regular people…nice people, who like to entertain and make others laugh. Surely…? Why would a sweet, nice person want to scare so many little kids? It happens.

It’s not just clowns in outrageous costumes, though. There are plenty of costumed cartoon characters – representing actual cartoons, fast-food advertisements, car washes, sports team’s mascots, and holiday icons such as the Easter bunny, and Santa Claus. They all have over-sized heads, crazy eyes, and giant feet. When these outlandish characters walk or dance around, trying to make kids and adults laugh at their antics, they have a greater probability of making the opposite happen. Don’t they realize this? Can’t they see all the crying children, clinging to their parents? The only way they have to voice their displeasure, is to cry.

My own dislike of clowns came when I was a kid. A clown was mean to me. What he did was probably not on purpose, but it terrified me.

I’d gone on a fun outing with my father, to a local rodeo. Between the bull riding, bronco busting, and calf roping, the rodeo clowns would come out into the arena to perform their clown tricksimagesCALAQLUN…funny, right? Well, this one held something black, white, and furry in his hand, and was slinging it around and around his head. I was sure it was a skunk he had ahold of by the tail.  Then…then…he looks straight at me, up in the seating area, and let go of the ‘skunk’. It flew toward me at lightning speed. I screamed and ducked, spilling my popcorn and coke all over myself.

That was all it took for me to hate clowns, forever after.  I don’t know what he actually threw at me, maybe a towel? I never found out, because we left immediately.

At any rate, I’ll never look at a clown, with that big fake smile, in the same way ever again.
