Neither Purely Good nor Purely Bad

Today we have Jim asking for songs that mention an insect or bug. I know of quite a few of them, so it was no trouble going to one of my very favorite songs by a wonderful singer.

I’ve had the pleasure of attending 3 concerts of the lovely Jana Stanfield. She hails from a small NM town not far from here, and every so often schedules a musical performance here. The venues are usually small, and friendly. The ones I saw were at a church, a swimming pool outdoor area, and a private ranch/restaurant. In fact, at the restaurant, it was a BBQ supper, and Ms Stanfield sat at our table, to chat.

She describes her songs/music as “Heavy Mental”, as she always has a positive message to deliver, with humor. She is booked as a keynote speaker all around the world, where she is also an advocate for humanitarian and peace endeavors. If you ever get a chance to attend one of her concerts, you won’t be disappointed.

This is a beautiful song that speaks to this idea of loving yourself, even when things in your life change – like the caterpillar who changes into a beautiful butterfly.

“Butterfly”, by Jana Stanfield, is on her 1994 album, “The Trick Is To Enjoy The Ride”. It was written by Jana Stanfield and Joyce Johnson Rouse, and is on the Relatively Famous Records label.

Sitting alone on a hillside, confused about what to do
My choices where all complicated, it was time to think things through
Spotted a striped caterpillar, stretching her face to the sky
Dragging her cumbersome body an inch at a time
I was feeling the pain of slow progress, when a friend of hers fluttered by
I leaned close as the caterpillar spoke with a voice as soft as a sign
She said…
[Chorus]

Butterfly, please tell me again it’s gonna be alright
I can feel a change is coming
I can feel it in my skin
I can feel myself outgrowing
This life I’ve been living in
And I’m afraid, afraid of change
Butterfly, please tell me again I’m gonna be alright

I’m like my friend caterpillar, afraid of that dark cocoon
Wanting to hide in the tall grass, when change is coming soon
But all of the things we long for, are borne on the wings of change
And losses can lead us to blessings that we can’t explain
Butterflies remind us, there’s magic in every life
And we can become what we dream of, if fat furry worms can fly
So I say…

Repeat Chorus

And on the day of my last breath
I expect to see angels like butterflies over my head
And I’ll say…

Repeat Chorus

Ovi Poetry 89: FLEETING is your inspiration.

The butterfly dance was fleeting

I smiled and offered a greeting

Standing on flowers he’s eating

Then he fluttered away

Not sure if any of these are made of brass, but we’ll say they are. We have a cat, a topper for a lamp, a door knob, and a real antique dresser with drawer pull.

For today, Bee has given us the prompt of ‘butterfly’. Thanks, Bee! 🙂

❤️❤️❤️

This may not be a love song about a couple of people, but here’s another way of thinking about it.

Before you can love another person, you really should be loving yourself. Whether you find your true love or not, you will always be with your own self. Whatever your life is like, try to be happy, be courageous, be kind, be the kind of person you would also like to find in another. Be at peace with yourself, no matter what changes might come your way.

Thank you so much, Becky, for hosting this wonderful challenge. It’s been lots of fun. 🙂

For this finale of light squares, I have here quite a few with blue lights that didn’t make it into the other days of this month.

But don’t be blue – Becky will be back with a new Squares challenge in April. I’m sure it will be a fun theme, to be announced later on.

My photos include:

  • Ceiling light with pale blue accents on the tiered shade with blue background wall
  • Floyd, my daughter’s white cat, sitting between two blue computer screen lights

This is a month of blue! It’s a fun challenge created by Becky of “The Life of B”, and each day we show something blue. The only rule beside blue, is that the photo MUST be SQUARE!

As an added bonus, I’ve found songs with blue in the title or lyrics, or at least something to do with the photo. 🙂

Thanks, Becky!

This is a bright blue butterfly all lit up in the dark. It is a battery butterfly that flashes all different colors. When I was trying to get a photo, I had to go into the bathroom with all the lights off, and snap a bunch of pictures to get a clear one, as it flashes so fast. The second photo is of the butterfly not lit up.

“Butterfly”, by Aqua, is a cute little song I found. It’s by the same group that had the hit single, “Barbie Girl”. I couldn’t find much else about this song, but here is a short stanza of the lyrics:

Ay ee ay ee ay
I’m Your little butterfly
Green, black, and blue
Make the colors in the sky
