fun-day, now Sunday

Yesterday I got up earlier than anyone should on a Saturday (given that I didn't go to bed until midnight). And ran up to my Osteopath. (I'd booked an appointment months ago, written down the date/time on the inside of the sea container I was standing in at the time...remembered the date, but not the time...so had to get into aforementioned container last week and uncover the time!). Anyway, he spent half an hour hurting me (if you've never had someone trying to free up your muscle fibres via their entire body weight applied through an elbow, you don't know pain. I am now bruised.) So he told me to chill out for the rest of the day and not do anything.

So I just nipped up to London...met up with Cutter, and we headed to the NHM. Saw my tree, the giant sequoia, the platypus, the polar bear and bought WeeFri a birthday Velociraptor, as you do...

Then headed to meet some friends over at St Dunstans (it's a ruined church, which has been made into a garden - like a wee calm oasis tucked away in the city.) Chilled with them until I had to get to m31andy 's engagement party, but I could only stay for a wee bit cos I had to head out to a Private View in Limehouse - and it was fab! Called 'Nostalgia for Mainframes' and in Limehouse town hall, which is all old and ramshackle and fab! Then I had to escape that too, cos I had to get home!

Finally got home at half one - having been on the party carriage in the train home, where we had a Johnny Cash imporsonator busking - it was fab! Everyone on the carriage was singing along, until one grumpy bastard told the guy to fuck off because he wanted to sleep. We all boo'd the guy. But the busker moved on to the next carriage. but it meant everyone in our carriage was talking to each other and it was lovely!

SO bloody busy day, but it was all great fun. And today I'm relaxing!

If anyone is interested, there is a LoM/Ashes to Ashes/Anyone else who wants to come and won't be bored by everyone else fanboi/girling LoM or A2A 'it's almost St. Paddy's Day' celebratory drinking session on Saturday 15th March, in London, very close to Victoria train station.

If any of you would like to come you are most welcome. We begin the drinking at around 5pm and drink on until there is no more to be drunk or we get thrown out.

I shall quite possibly be corralling anyone who doesn't know how to get to the pub (The Orange Brewery, Pimlico Road) at Victoria Station and guiding the way there, so there are no valid excuses for not coming. I have found many a person who I've never met before in the hotbed that is Victoria main concourse.

So come. You know you want to.

And dakfinv? Either get your boss to sort those bogs out or we'll sort him out XD

Finding a local

One of the pubs in our street has just been done up, changed hands and had a revamp. It was the Cuckmere, now it's The Grosvenor. It's tiny, has big leather sofas, retro chairs, very slidy stool at the bar and serves beer out of minimalist pumps. But I quite liked it. Very 'local' as in, quiet. Has a nice range of drinks.

We're trying to pick a 'local', as, within about 60 seconds of my front door we have: The Grosvenor, The Beford Tavern, The Lion and Lobster, The Duke of Norfolk, The Robin Hood, The Star and Sailor...the list goes on until about ten minutes walk away, by which time we must be talking 20 or 30 pubs. I like having a local, I enjoy pubs. We've yet to decide on whether The G will be it...I think we'll have to do a test of each place and mark it, then compare...

Drank a pint of bitter - nice, but uneventful. Harvey's isn't my favourite bitter, but it was all they had (not too promising) but then I had a pint of St Heliers, which was lovely.

For friendliness of staff, atmosphere, decor, drink choice and music I think I'd give it a 7 or so. It loses points for lack of bitter and because it's tiny, when you converse with friends you are chatting to the WHOLE pub. There is no privacy.
