These are three gray doves gathering around the blue bowl of water on the back porch. I believe they are Eurasian Collared Doves, as they do have a black ring (collar) around their neck. But there are a type of dove that also has a ring, and are called Ringnecked Doves. Anyway, we have a lot of these around here all year round.

Bird of the Day – Gathering Around the Water Cooler

BOTD: August 19, 2019 Great-tailed Grackle

Every day the birds gather around the water cooler (the water bowl) out on the back porch. In these photos there are the always present doves, and some grackles.

The grackles love to pick a piece of cat food and dip it in the water for a second. 🙂

photos show:

  • 3 gray doves around blue water bowl
  • 5 gray doves and a black grackle on the porch (one grackle farther off in the grass)
  • Brownish grackle sitting on rim of water bowl, and then dipping piece of cat food into water
