Esther’s Writing Prompt – Blue

Writing Prompts

***

This is from a poetry writing challenge in 2015.

Today for writing a poem, we were given the suggestion to think of our favorite color, or a memory of a color, that has meaning for you. Mine is sky blue. For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved looking up at the sky, in all it’s wonderful shades of color. From midnight’s inky darkness, with moon and stars shining, to fabulous sunrises and sunsets, painting the sky with flames, of orange, and red, all are fascinating to me. I take pictures…lots of pictures of the sky. Each one is different…each time you look at the sky, it is changing, from moment to moment.

Here are a trio of Haiku poems, honoring the sky…

SKY BLUE

Enchantress of space

Gaze into the sky of blue

Universal Peace

***

Incandescent sun

As above you burn sky blue

Breathe…refresh your soul

***

Ever-changing sky

Blue azure sea above us

Ever-lasting love

~

Looking out into the sky of blue with clouds, from airplane.

Dan the Man, owner of Spiders ‘R Us, reflexology parlor, swore out a vendetta on the murderers of his cousin, Sly. Wheezing as he kneaded the legs of his customers like dough, he kept his cool as he imagined how to rub out his enemy. No joke, this means war.

(50 words)

***

Spider spider on the wall

Vowing vendetta on them all

Not doing reflexology

Giving him no apology

Bake a loaf of bread dead

Laying down your weary head

Dough rises like a ghost

Wheezing when we burn toast

No pretending –  we’ll not be cool

Just rubbing out that lying fool

Forgotten Phrases # 5 – Dig

These are short phrases (or micro fiction) that I wrote years ago.

This one I wrote for a writing challenge back in July of 2016.

Subject: Farming

DIG

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Jim Bob felt like an automaton, now, just like everyone else.

Dig, hoe, rake, plant

Straight rows, down the line, even spaces, he was not allowed to stop.

Strange voices, weird food, sickening smells…just keep going.

The plants talk to him, chanting…

Dig hoe, rake, plant

The aliens look on, and revel in their take-over of the Earthlings.

Shooting Star on OpenMoji 12.3

Subject: Stars

***

Light years away, a star died.

Radio frequency picked up it’s death cries –

A sadder sound you’ll never hear.

It’s heartrending death cries only reaching us now in

The still dark night.

My name isn’t Alice, but I could swear there was a vibe coming from this little frosted delicacy that screamed, ‘eat me’.

I shouldn’t …I can’t … I want it…I won’t …

Looking left and right, I reached out my forefinger, taking a tiny swipe of the sugary topping. Be strong, don’t put it in my mouth…uh-uh…I’ll die if I do.

My mouth watered, my stomach growled, my breathing was fast. Thoughts swirled around my mind, just as the icing swirled around the contours of the cupcake. Just one tiny taste won’t hurt anything. I inhaled a faint strawberry and vanilla essence. mmmm so good.

No resistance left…I tasted…

They found me the next morning, dead…but, a happy smile on my sugared lips.

Now, I’m not tagging anyone in particular, as I never know who likes to do these, but here’s a photo if you’d like to write something about it. 🙂
