It’s time for another ‘Would You Rather’ question! 🙂

Here’s the question from the game card:

Would you rather…Get lost in the woods with a knife and no food – Or – lost with 4 cans of Spam (lunch meat), but no knife?

Here’s my answer:

I would take the 4 cans of Spam. I like Spam, and we eat it quite often. The can comes with a pull-tab to open it, so why would you need a knife?

Actually, I had a Spam sandwich yesterday. The pull-tab broke off before I could get the can open, but it isn’t that hard to get it open, anyway. If you were in the woods and this happened, just find a stick or a rock, and you can pry the lid off.

I don’t know what I’d do with a knife in the woods, anyway. I wouldn’t be killing anything, or cutting plants to eat. It would be my luck to get ahold of something poison!

Here’s the question from the Would You Rather? game box card:

As a woman, would you wear high heel shoes on a camping trip – Or – Have to wear Birkenstock sandals to the Oscar’s Movie Awards (in plain view of everyone)?

My answer to this is:

I wouldn’t be camping in the first place, and I never wear high heels, ever. If I had to go camping, I would not wear uncomfortable shoes.

I’d go to the Oscar awards show in Birkenstock sandals with no problem. I like these shoes, and have had them in the past. As it is, I wear flip flops most all the time, anyway, and I wouldn’t care who saw me in them, even at a fancy thing like the Oscars. I wear what I want, when I want. 🙂

Back Where I Come From – Day 21

Question # 21

21. Were there any flowers growing in your yard back home? What kind? Were you or your parents good gardeners?

My Answer:

We always had flowers growing in the front yard and the back yard. My mom was very good at growing things (not like me), so whatever she planted did real well. I can’t remember all the kinds that were out there, but I know there were beautiful irises and chrysanthemums, and carnations. Larkspurs, morning glories, and trumpet vines were some of my favorites that grew out there, too.

Wherever she went, she’d find some seeds from some plant or other, bring them home, and plant them. This was for flowers and trees.

There was a big garden area out back, with lots of tomatoes, carrots, peas, beans, okra, and sometimes corn. My dad did some organic gardening, and sometimes grew vegetables, and also flowers in bales of hay. Looked weird, but they did good. Well, I could name off pretty much any flower and vegetable, and it would be grown out there.

They didn’t have a rototiller, so had to do it all by shovel, to get the garden ready each year. One time my mom got my boyfriend (now husband) to dig it up. 🙂

One year, right before a hard freeze, I went out there and gathered up all the still green tomatoes from the vines. We wrapped them in newspapers, put them in the cellar for the winter, and they ripened a little at a time. We had fresh tomatoes all winter long.

I sure wish I had a green thumb, but guess I didn’t inherit that bit of talent.

Back Where I Come From – Day 19

Question # 19

19. Did you have any pets in your childhood home? If so, please tell me about them. If you have a photograph of any of your childhood pets, please share.

My Answer:

We always had a dog. There were a lot of them over the years, but we only had one at a time, I think.

We had parakeets a time or two, also.

We had the occasional gold fish. Then, after that one kept jumping out of his bowl all the time, I got scared of fish, so we didn’t have any more in the house. That started my fish phobia.

We couldn’t have cats, as my mom was afraid of them.

I have thought about writing up a post about each pet I’ve had over the years. I’m pretty sure I remember them all (and may have a photo of most, but will have to look for them). We’ll see if I do that someday. 🙂

Back Where I Come From – Day 18

Question # 18

18. Did you like your childhood home? What did you like or not like about it?

My Answer:

Sure, I liked my childhood home. I lived there my whole life, until I married and moved around wherever. In fact, when the mister was overseas on an unaccompanied tour of duty, the kids and I would go back to the home I grew up in. My parents lived there up until the last couple of years, when my Dad passed on. We just sold it after that, and that was so hard to do. My dad built that house all by himself, starting I guess in 1950, the year I came along. There were lots of improvements over the years, but it was always ‘home’.

I liked that he built it himself. I liked everything about that house. I liked that we had a cellar in the back yard that my dad built. Also, there’s a large workshop storage shed. At one time he built a really nice brick fireplace in the back yard for cook outs, and also a drinking fountain. There was always a huge garden out back and flowers and trees.

I miss this old house.

Question # 16

16. Was your hometown a “backwards” place or do you feel that it was progressive?

My Answer:

I think our city has been pretty progressive over the years. Some would say it’s still a bit backwards in some ways, because it still has the feel of a smaller town. This can be seen in some of the outdated beliefs we see and hear about whenever something new is presented. Still, the city has grown to a population of over 200,000, and is still growing. New businesses are coming in, even as older ones are phased out. So, I think progress is being made here now, just as it has been all along.

Question # 14

14. Do you tan easily or do you burn instead?

My answer:

It only takes a very few minutes for me to get a sunburn. I used to get all red every summer, then we’d put Noxema cream on it, to cool it down. Then the skin would peel, and eventually it would maybe look like a very light tan. I used to joke that if my freckles all melded together it would look like a tan. These days, I try not to get in the sun.

Question #13

13. What color were the eyes of your first date?

My answer:

I have no idea. I don’t remember my first date, or who the person was. I’ll guess either blue or brown. 🙂

I only got to start dating at age 16, so I was in high school. Maybe we just sat together at a football game or something, and I called it a date. Maybe we went to a movie. Maybe we just went out to get a soft drink at the drive-in, or maybe I was invited by their family to go to an outdoor recreation area for the day. Who knows? I didn’t date much, come to think of it, before I got married at 19. 🙂

How does that go…? I plead the 5th? I refuse to answer on the grounds it may incriminate me (and others). Yeah… 🙂

8. How old were you when you took your first drink of alcohol, if you ever have? What were the circumstances surrounding that moment?

I don’t remember. Really, I don’t. My parents didn’t drink alcohol, but they had a hidden bottle of whisky (I think) only for emergency toothaches. That bottle sat up there in the cabinet for years. I did use it when I had a toothache sometimes. A little on a Q-tip, applied to the sore tooth/gum worked great at numbing the area.

I suppose I had a drink at a party. I remember at different times over the years the drinks I had a little of. They were a Cuba Libra, Tom Collins, Daiquiri, Beer, Wine. I’ve tasted a Margarita, Scotch, Rum & Coke, and a Martini, which was awful. From all these listed, I mostly had only a few sips to see what they tasted like. I only had too much, a time or two. I was more into smoking the weed than drinking. I don’t drink any alcohol now, but I like the taste of beer, so have a non-alcohol one every evening. Some would say what’s the point in that? I know, I know…but, it suits me fine.
