SOCS – curl

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 12, 2025

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “curl.” Use it as a noun, use it as a verb, use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

Well, it seems everyone is mostly talking about their curly/wavy hair or not having it.

I have super straight hair, and I even ironed it on the ironing board years ago to get it even more straight.  But that was later on. The curly hair story begins much earlier.

I read an entry my mom wrote in my baby book – got my first permanent – 2 years old.  Huh???

I got my hair permanented when I was a baby it seems. I looked up kid’s home permanents and there was a brand, “Toni” (I think ) marketed for kids.

Every year after that I’d get a permanent. With the smelly solution and pink plastic rollers with rubber bands, I’d sit there while  mom or grandma did my hair. I hated it. First I’d get a short hair cut – a pixie I think it was called. Then my hair would be like a brillo pad steel wool afterwards.

This went on until I was in Jr. high school and could make my wishes stick. What I always wanted was my hair to be long, and left straight. I did not want curly hair. I wanted a ponytail.

Later on in life I did get a  hair permanent on my  own, a couple of times, and I liked it for a little while, but no more than those times.    Now I like my hair as it is very long and super straight. 🙂
