Silver & Shine – Weekend Sky # 98

Weekend Sky #98 – April 29th

Silver mackerel clouds tinted with pink are above trees silhouetted in black. We call these cloud formations ‘mackerel’, but other countries call them something else. In France they are called ‘fleecy’, in Spain they are called ‘cobbled’, and in Germany they are called ‘sheep’.

Oh, this reminds me of when I got into trouble at school in 2nd grade. I drew a picture of the sky and lots of fluffy clouds that really looked like sheep. The teacher told me off saying there was no such thing as sheep clouds. I knew she was wrong! haha 🙂

From a Wiki article:

A mackerel sky is a common term for clouds made up of rows of cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds displaying an undulating, rippling pattern similar in appearance to fish scales;[1][2] this is caused by high altitude atmospheric waves.[3]
