LOCKED OUT

Have you ever been locked out? It’s been awhile since I’ve been locked out of some place. It is not fun to try to open a door, and …uh-oh…it’s locked, and you don’t have the key!

Maybe you left it inside the house or the car, when you shut the door. It happens…being in a hurry, or just forgetful, or any number of reasons.

First, you keep jiggling the door handle, hoping you can somehow manage to loosen it, and it will magically come open. This is not going to happen, and really, you know it, but you keep trying.

You look around for help from someone, neighbor, stranger, anybody…and no one comes. You seem to feel there are eyes peeking at you from behind curtains, and that everyone in the universe is watching and laughing at your dilemma.

I’ve been locked out of my cars and house many times. The last resort, of course is to call the professional locksmiths to come open the door…and yes, they charge a fee for this service. By now, however, you don’t care how much it costs…just get it open – please!

Once me and my daughter (who was expecting a baby) had gone to yard sales. It was a very hot day. We bought a few things, then back at the truck, we found that the keys had been left inside…and the doors were locked. We could’t reach any family members to come rescue us. The people who were having the sale, noticed we were having a problem, so they came and tried the door, too. Finally, we did call for the mobile locksmith to come. While we waited, the nice yard sale people brought us lawn chairs to sit on, and cold soft drinks.

We hated spending our yard sale cash on opening the door, but it was all that was left to do. I can’t remember if we continued to shop, or just went home that day. Did we learn to check for the keys, before shutting a door? Yes, for awhile…then later on, uh-oh…locked out again.

Seems this questionaire is making the rounds, as I’ve seen others doing it, also. I followed the trail backwards for a little bit, but still don’t know who started it off. Anyway, I like questions to answer, so thanks, Suze!

Do you sleep with your closet doors open or closed?

Closed. I never know what comes out of the dark recesses of the closet. Some of my clothes have turned up missing, only to be returned some time later on. I’m pretty sure it’s the house ghost.

Do you take the shampoos and conditioner bottles from hotel?

Yes.

Do you sleep with your sheets tucked in or out?

I don’t usually use a top sheet, just blankets, but I don’t want any of them tucked in.

Have you ever stolen a street sign before?

No.

Do you like to use post-it notes?

I love post-it notes! I use them all the time. I save most of them, too, because going back to read the cryptic little jottings that I’ve written is so funny. I call them my ‘crazy notes’.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Television commercials. I hate them all.

Do you ever count your steps when you walk?

Yes, sometimes.

Is it okay for guys to wear pink as a colour?

Sure, why not?

Whats your least favorite movie?

There are probably a lot, but the most recent is the new Star Wars one…Rogue One? So utterly boring, I fell asleep within the first few minutes. Woke up when it was over, and people were leaving.

What do you drink with dinner?

Iced tea, or sometimes a Coke.

What is your favorite food?

Mexican or Tex-Mex. I love it all.

What movie could you watch over and over and still love?

Dazed and Confused, That Thing You Do, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

Would you ever strip or pose nude in a magazine?

No.

When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper?

Probably was a short note included in a birthday card.

Favourite kind of sandwich?

Tuna fish.

Best thing to eat for breakfast?

Eggs, bacon, cream gravy, biscuits.

What is your usual bedtime?

10:30 or 11:00 p. m.

Are you lazy?

Yes.

How many languages can you speak?

English. A few words in Spanish, French, German, Japanese.

Do you sing in the shower?

No.

Is Christmas stressful?

A little bit, but not as much as it used to be.

Occupations you wanted to be when you were a kid?

Archeologist, or Coloring Book Artist.

Do you believe in ghosts?

Yes. I grew up with ghosts, I have ghosts now, I am Ghost!

Wear slippers?

I haven’t in a long time, but got some for Christmas. Now, I wear them all the time.

Ever been in love?

Yes.

Who would you like to see in concert?

Dixie Chicks. I’ve seen them in concert more than once, and would like to again. Miranda Lambert. I’ve seen her in concert, too, and would again. Someone I haven’t seen, but would like to, would be Poison.

Hot tea or cold tea?

Iced Tea.

Tea or coffee?

Both, alternating all day long.

Ever had plastic surgery?

No.

Do you want to get married?

Have been for 47 years.

Do you want kids?

I have two daughters, and 2 grandchildren.

What’s your favorite color?

Black.

Do you miss anyone right now?

Of course.

Things you cannot leave the house without?

Phone, purse, anti-bacterial hand wipes.

Do you drink energy drinks?

No.

Do you drink juice?

Hardly ever.

Do you eat fries with a fork?

No.

Any phobias?

Fish.

What is your middle name?

Jean.

What was favorite subject at school?

English.

What is your favorite drink?

Iced Tea, Coffee, Milk, Coke.

What is your favorite song at the moment?

It changes with whatever I’m listening to in any certain moment.

What is the last thing you bought?

The next three books in a series I’m reading. They are the ones after “The Maze Runner”, by James Dashner, and are really good. Also, eyeliner.

How many siblings do you have?

One, a younger sister.

When was the last time you cried?

Every day. I cry tears when I laugh, when I yawn, when I cut onions, and if I’m sad or mad about something. I can usually make tears just by trying to for no reason.

Favourite TV shows?

Don’t watch much TV anymore. I do watch “Big Brother” reality show once a year. I also like the old black & white sitcoms.

PC or Mac?

I use a PC.

What phone do you have?

I never can remember. It’s an Iphone 5 something or other, I think.

How tall are you?

5-4

Can you cook?

Yes, I don’t mind cooking and baking. The hard part is deciding what to make. If someone suggests something, I’m happy to make it.

STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS SATURDAY – LETTER P

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS and #JusJoJan Jan. 14/17

Today’s SOCS asks us to use the letter ‘P’.

What I was thinking is that I’d try this ‘new to me’ type of poetry form called the ‘Pantoum’. It starts with the letter P, so yay! In fact a double P…Pantoum Poetry. This is the first time I’ve tried writing one, and I’m not real sure I did it right or not. There are quite a few instructions on how it fits together, the lines, and such, so it took awhile to figure it out. The picture came from a blog (mentioned below) that posts daily pictures as a prompt to get you started. Anyway, hope you enjoy my attempt! 🙂

The prompt word today for the triple J challenge is ‘hospital’.

Don’t really know what to say about hospitals. They are necessary, but I don’t like going to one. The doctors and nurses are trained to take care of any and all emergencies and illnesses, so that is very good to know. Still, I don’t like going, because there are people spreading their germs around everywhere. I make sure to use hand sanitizer wipes or liquid after I touch anything at all, like elevator buttons, chair arms, door knobs, etc. I don’t even begin to grab a magazine to read. Who knows what germs are on there. I bring my own reading material.

I’ve been in the hospital for lifesaving surgery more than once. I like that if you need it, it is there, and if they can’t fix whatever is wrong, they’ll send you to another, with maybe more trained doctors. That happened before. I had to go to Dallas for more in depth care.

Our hospitals here are pretty big. Whenever we go for something, even to visit someone there, we usually get lost. I like the smaller clinics better.

Another thing that I’ve always wondered about is how people from different places say this… I had to go to the hospital…and, I had to go to hospital. We always put the word ‘the’ in there.

That’s about all I have to say about hospitals.

Mongrel, I think, mainly pertains to members of the dog family of animals. I suppose it could be about others, but today I mention only dogs. This only means a dog of mixed breeding. Other words to describe a mongrel would be…

We only have cats now, but in the past we have had all sorts of dogs, from the mongrel type, to pure-bred. I loved them all, as they all had such different personalities. They were part of the family.

Mostly, when I think of the word ‘warning’, I immediately think tornado warning. Being here in tornado alley, you hear that announcement on our local news all the time in the spring. Back in 1970 I was in an F5 tornado, and it was so scary, I still have nightmares about it all these years later. So yes, I get scared when I hear about a tornado warning near us.

One time, though, I was fooled. It was a nice clear day, middle of the morning, and I was listening to my police scanner radio. Suddenly I hear an urgent message about a tornado. The dispatcher and the emergency police, fire, and ambulance workers were all communicating their locations, and all the damage and injuries they were taking care of. These people were intense.

I was like, what…where? Here in our city this morning? So, I run out to look at the sky, and was so confused. It was still a clear blue sky, with no sign of any storms anywhere around. I kept listening to the scanner, though. It sounded horrible what was happening. Then…I finally heard them say that this had just been a drill, a practice in case of a real emergency situation.

I was relieved it wasn’t real, but then felt silly for falling for it. 🙂

Here’s a photo of an ominous cloud that looks like a tornado close to our house. It’s not one. It was false, and needed no warning.
