Arena::chunk_capacity use cursor_ptr.offset_from_unsigned(start_ptr) instead of converting the 2 pointers to usizes and comparing. NonNull::offset_from_unsigned can be more performant, as it gives the compiler certain guarantees (notably that the distance between the 2 pointers cannot exceed isize::MAX).

Footnotes

  1. 3 benchmarks were skipped, so the baseline results were used instead. If they were deleted from the codebase, click here and archive them to remove them from the performance reports.

  2. No successful run was found on main (72fece5) during the generation of this report, so 83b91f5 was used instead as the comparison base. There might be some changes unrelated to this pull request in this report.

Pull request overview

Optimizes Arena::chunk_capacity by switching from integer address subtraction to NonNull::offset_from_unsigned, allowing the compiler to leverage stronger pointer-distance guarantees.

Changes:

  • Replaced addr()-based pointer subtraction with NonNull::offset_from_unsigned in Arena::chunk_capacity.
  • Added a local safety justification comment for the new unsafe pointer offset computation.

`Arena::chunk_capacity` use `cursor_ptr.offset_from_unsigned(start_ptr)` instead of converting the 2 pointers to `usize`s and comparing. `NonNull::offset_from_unsigned` can be more performant, as it gives the compiler certain guarantees (notably that the distance between the 2 pointers cannot exceed `isize::MAX`).
