switched to vel_at_offset because the stability issue was re-evaluated, add a
short rationale comment above the damping code referencing PR `#747` and the
mitigation (e.g., mass-adaptive multiplier) explaining why damping at the pick

compensated by the mass-adaptive force multiplier (the expression 1.0 + 0.1 *
body_mass) and the more accurate velocity calculation at the pick point (vs.
center-of-mass velocity); mention that the lower stiffness/damping improves
accuracy/stability with the updated velocity computation and that the
mass-adaptive multiplier scales per-body forces to preserve responsiveness, so
future maintainers understand the design tradeoff.

This is a lot simpler and seems more stable than the previous version in my tests so I am all for merging that. I still have some reservations about the "0.1" constant in the picking kernel, the lighter bodies will not see the effect from mass-based scaling (and do seem a bit more jittery in practice)

Please try to get CI to green. I'll review afterwards such that we can avoid doing reviews again after potential changes to make the CI happy. |
Changes the default values so we don't have to apply arbitrary multiplier to mass scaling.
