SOCS & Just Jot It January – Final (itch)

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan 2026 Daily Prompt for Jan. 31st

***

Your prompt for #JusJoJan the 31st and Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “scratch an itch.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

This is the final Just Jot It January for this year. Thanks for hosting this fun challenge, Linda! All the prompts from bloggers were fun to think about and write something for, so thank you all, too. 🙂

Today we have scratch an itch. I itch a lot probably from dry skin. It is very dry usually here where we live, with all the sand storms, dust warnings, and very hot in the summer. We have had to get a humidifier to put moisture in the house, too.

Lets see what else I can come up with. I once had an Rx cream for something that was for an itchy spot. The medicine, I forget what the name was, but it started with letter B. So I’d write down when I used it to keep a record, and it was fun to write ‘B-itch’ cream. haha

Wasn’t there a cartoon with animals called Itchy and Scratchy? Or was that Ren and Stimpy … all those cartoons kind of run together since I never watched them.

And as Porky Pig would say … ‘That’s all folks’! 🙂

For Linda’s challenge:

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS July 27, 2024

***

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “ends with ‘itch.’” Find a word that ends with “itch” or use the word “itch.” Enjoy!

***

So, here are some words that have those ‘itch’ letters in them.

  1. Bitch = a female dog, or an insult directed at someone
  2. Ditch = a depression or dug out place in the ground, or to suddenly leave a place or person
  3. Glitch = something that goes wrong in most likely an electronic machine
  4.  Hitch = a fastening place like a gate lock, or a place to tie up your horse
  5. Itch = an urge to scratch somewhere on your body, or a need to do something satisfying
  6. Mitch = a name
  7. Pitch = a way of throwing a ball, or a playing field in some games, or roofing goo, like tar.
  8. Stitch = a sewing term, or a pain in your side when running
  9. Titch = a small amount
  10. Witch = a person who is suspected of casting spells

Now, I’ll expand, or rather expound on a couple of these.

# 2 Ditch … There was a place in our front yard that was a little lower than the rest of the yard. It was always there, sort of a long hollowed out space, though it was grassy just like the rest of the yard. When I was a kid, I called it our ‘buffalo wallow’. That’s because I figured that way back in olden days, when buffalo roamed the prairies, they stopped in our yard to wallow around on the ground and it hollowed out this depression in the yard. Could be true…right?

#4 Hitch … Remember the days of the western TV shows? They all rode their horses to town, and tied their reins up at the hitching post in front of the saloon or general store. Well, those days are still here, sort of. Our local grocery store does still have a hitching post out front. I’ve seen horses there lots of times, that people have ridden up to get get their groceries.

Here’s my older post of that:

When you ride your horse to the grocery store, do you have trouble finding a parking spot?

If you live in my city, you won’t have any problems. The local grocery store has provided a hitching post for shopper’s convenience.  Now you have a special place to leave your horse, while you shop.

The hitching post is on a grassy area right next to the car parking lot. It isn’t unusual to see people riding their horses down the street, or around Imagethe playa lake by our house. It’s no different, seeing a horse patiently waiting, there at the grocery store hitching post.

So get your boots on, saddle up, and ride on over.

# 6 Mitch … Anyone remember the TV show Sing Along With Mitch? We watched it all the time. Mitch Miller was the host, and he presented people singing familiar songs, and on the screen the words to the songs would be shown. He would urge the television watching people to ‘sing along’. Now it seems it was foreshadowing today’s way of watching music videos with the lyrics on there, doesn’t it.

And with that catchy song, I will wish you a Happy Saturday! 🙂
