Regarding your fridge, is it organized or a mess inside?

Pretty much organized. We never have much in there, so things are just lined up at the front of the shelves, so are easy to see. The top shelf holds big tea pitcher, 2 half gallon milk jugs, liquid coffee creamer, any opened cat food. Next is the drawer with meats/cheeses, and the next shelf is for egg carton and extra butter. Bottom shelf is for any leftover things, which only stay a day or so. Below that is the veggie drawer, which has a few things like lettuce, tomatoes, bell pepper, and onion. That’s it besides the door shelves for condiments.

Do you prefer your food separated or mixed together?

Separated, unless it needs gravy on it.

Do you prefer reading coffee table books (picture), biographies, fiction, non-fiction, educational?

I don’t have or read coffee table books or magazines. I read some fiction (more of these lately), but mostly I like memoirs, humor, biography, and non-fiction.

Close your eyes. Listen to your body. What part of your body is seeking attention? What is it telling you?

Every part of me is hollering for attention, since I think I’m a hypochondriac. Pretty sure of that. If I think it, I have it. If I hear or read it, I have it.

Optional Bonus question:  What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

Nothing too horrible happened last week, and I’m looking forward to another non-horrible week. Actually, all is about the same as always. I either have another cold, or not. It’s in between. We visited with daughter and grand-daughter last week. The mornings have been cold, but afternoons warm. Today we are under a fire weather warning, with blowing dust. Typical for this time of year.

Wishing everyone a fun and non-horrible week, also! 🙂

LOOK INSIDE

~

Take a look,

Take a look,

Take a look inside…

Take a look inside yourself,

What have you got to hide?

What do you see,

What do you see,

What do you see, I ask?

What do you see yourself to be…

What’s hiding behind that mask?

Reveal yourself,

Reveal yourself,

Reveal yourself to me…

Reveal yourself…I want your truth…

Be who you were meant to be.

POEM # 10

~

MENTAL

Maybe you’d call me mental –

And, maybe you’d be right…

But, if I had my way – it’d be Halloween every night.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

Because I love the night…

My favorite time of evening, is when the bats take flight.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

But, I’m really not uptight…

It bothers me not you call me mental –

Though you know that it’s not right.

Maybe you’d call me mental –

But, I’ll gaze at the moon tonight…

And pray forgiveness for you…

For your hurtful words of slight.

Here are the new questions for Share Your World. Thanks for hosting, Melanie! 🙂

***

Has anyone ever tried to scam you? … Probably many have tried, but none have succeeded. Probably all those spam and robo calls are scams, so we don’t answer those either. Years ago we were asked to go to an introductory meeting for selling something or other. Turned out it was one of those pyramid schemes/scams. We didn’t fall for it.

What’s the best thing about parties? … The only parties I’ve ever liked were when our family gets together for a birthday or something. Otherwise I don’t go to any parties. Too many people, too much noise.

Do you listen to people’s advice if you didn’t ask for it? … Oh, I’d probably listen to them, then go on and do whatever I wanted to anyway.

Why is it impossible to spell funeral without fun? … Well, that’s how that word is spelled, so unless you can think of a whole different word that doesn’t have ‘fun’ in it to mean the same thing. guess we’re stuck with it the way it is. haha

This was for a One Liner Challenge on May 23, 2018.

Here is a quote from George Carlin: Weather forecast for tonight: dark. 🙂

Weather forecast for tonight: dark. - George Carlin

***

I like this because it’s so obvious it’s funny.

George Carlin always was a favorite of mine, because he had a unique way of seeing things and making a statement about it.

Of course I like anything to do with the weather, too. It reminds me of this one local weather guy, who was always saying something funny. You know how in the weather forecasts they say it will be partly sunny, or partly cloudy…well, this guy had a one liner that struck me funny, too. He said about the night time:

“It will be partly moony tonight.” 🙂

THE ULTIMATE BOOK TAG

untitled

THE ULTIMATE BOOK TAG

I found this book tag post on Tabby’s blog, The Orange Owl Diaries https://orangeowldiaries.com/2016/04/25/ultimate-book-tag/ … It sounds like fun, so I decided to post my answers. Thanks, Tabby!

As someone who loves to read a lot of books, this book tag is interesting. There are questions to answer about books, so here they are:

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

No, I never have.

2. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

As I’ve not read either one, I couldn’t say yay or nay about either.

3. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it besides books?

Sometimes I carry a book bag or a tote bag. I have a really unique one that a friend made for me years ago. It’s made from an old pair of blue jeans, and he did leatherwork for the handle with my name embossed in it.

4. Do you smell your books?

Once in awhile you just can’t help smelling them. A brand new one smells way different from an older one. One time there was a library book that smelled like pepper. We all could smell pepper, and every once in awhile we’d go see if it still smelled like pepper, and every time it did, even years later. I never could read it, because it smelled. The pages weren’t dirty at all, though.

5. Books with or without little illustrations?

It doesn’t matter if I like the book. I do like photos, though, on the non-fiction books.

6. What book did you love while reading, but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

Can’t think of any at the moment.

7. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share.

Oh yeah…In 4th grade I’d checked out a book from the school library, and you know those little cards they’d stamp the date on, and you’d sign your name, and it fit in a little pocket glued to the inside cover of the book. Well, this was way back in the ‘good old days’ haha… I don’t suppose they do that now? Anyway, the book was called “Strawberry Roan” and was about a horse. I was way into horsey type books at the time. It was a great book, and then it was time to turn it back in. So, I get on my bicycle to ride to school. The book is in the front basket of the bike. I get going, hit a bump, and fall down with the bike. I got a big cut on my knee (still have the scar), and the book…well, it bounced out of the basket and got run over by the bike, and was a big ‘ol mess. I freaked out of course…what was I gonna do? What was I gonna say about the library book? I worried about it all the way to school (after I picked myself up from the ground). At school, I went into the library room, and wonder of wonders, no one else was in there. I took the little card from it’s pocket, and scratched out my name really dark, with a pencil, so no one would know I’d had the book, that was now ruined. I put it back on the shelf, and never told anyone. I have no idea what happened when it was discovered.  🙂

8. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

Oh, man…I’d have to get up and look. Maybe I’ll tell you later?

9. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

Same, thing…I’ll tell you later.

10. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I write all the time. I am an author of all my blog posts. I’ve also had a poem published in an online magazine.

11. When did you get into reading?

Before I could read, I’d make up stories about the kid books I had. Then, I’d memorize the words of the books. I don’t remember when I actually could read words, but in elementary school, I’m sure.

12. What is your favorite classic book?

Classic? Maybe “Grapes of Wrath”?

13. In school what was your best subject? Language Arts/English?

English.

14. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated, what would you do?

Tell the person thank you. Later, I’d probably donate it to the library, for their annual book sale.

15. What is a lesser know series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter of the Hunger Games?

Sorry, don’t know of any.

16. What is your favorite word?

Words of all kinds. I like to read the dictionary.

17. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb?

?

18. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Bookmark! I love collecting all kinds, and using them.

19. One book at a time, or several books at once?

Several at once…one in each room.

20. Can you stop reading at any part of the book, or does it have to be the end of the chapter?

I can stop anywhere, even in the middle of a sentence, then pick right back up when I get back to it.

21. Do you write in a book?

No.

22. Love Triangle or forbidden love?

Forbidden love.

23. Can you read while listening to music/watching TV?

Yes, it doesn’t bother me.

24. Do you read out loud or silently in your head?

Silently to myself, but if something is funny, laughing out loud.

25. Bonus Question: Physical book, e-book, or audio book?

Physical book, but I do have a lot to read on my Kindle.

~

Fun questions! If you’d like to give this a try, please do. Send me a link, if you do, so I can read your answers! 🙂

little container Jacks & Ball Set, with white ball and silver jacks

JACKS

Do you remember playing the kids’s game of Jacks? I remember how much fun we had.

The game of Jacks is played all over the world, by kids of all ages. There are as many types of Jacks games, as there are kids who play.

The ones I used were the little metal pronged toy that you throw onto a hard surface, like the floor. You have a small rubber ball, which you throw up into the air, pick up a set number of the jacks, and then catch the ball after one bounce.

Other’s rules say not to let the ball bounce at all, and some use a wooden ball or token. Some jacks are made of brightly colored plastic.

Friends can play together, taking turns, or you can play and practice on your own. We used to go early to school, just so we could get in a game before classes started. It was the rage for awhile.

There are different ways to pick up the jacks during a game. They all have funny names, for each round. Here’s a few I remember…

  • onsies – tensies
  • eggs in the basket
  • peas in the pod
  • piggies
  • flying pigs
  • round the world
  • kiss’ems
  • shooting stars
  • over the fence

Honestly, we could have played these rounds of jacks all day. Sometimes, we’d use a golf ball instead of the rubber ball. This worked best on the sidewalk. Long ago, inside a regular golf ball, was another smaller, rubber ball. We’d get an old, beat up golf ball and cut it open. It was fun and funny, because also inside the golf ball, were all these long strands of rubber band things. They’d come popping out all over the place, and we’d scream and laugh. Then, we’d grab the smaller ball to play our jacks with.

Sometimes, the adults would warn us that if we weren’t careful…if we accidently poked a hole in the small ball, there was a poison liquid inside; if it got in your eye, you’d go blind. We never did poke any holes, though, and no one went blind.

This is the the craziest sounding thing…now that I think about it. I mean, we were kids, using sharp knives to cut a possibly poison golf ball…and the adults were not concerned about this…just the poison part…and they let us do it anyway!

All I know, is we sure had fun playing the game of Jacks. I’ll bet I could still play a pretty good game…in fact, I do have a set. I think I’ll try a game or two.

How about you? Want to join me?

Hope you enjoyed going down memory lane with me! If you’d like to, check out my other blog for the letter J. … It’s all about a Jinx car we once had!

Fandango’s Flashback Friday — March 28th

***

This was a combination music challenge post from March 28, 2017. I’ve taken out the rules and links to these challenges, as they are no longer relevant.

***

Standard

Today is the 3rd day of the Music Challenge.

I’m combining this challenge with the 51 Weeks/51 Songs From the Past.

***

The song quote:

I’m gonna wake up in your arms tomorrow
You gonna make it the night of my life
I’m gonna wake up in your arms tomorrow
Thank you for takin’ me to paradise tonight.

***

The song is called, “Paradise Tonight”, and is sung by Charlie McClain and Mickey Gilley. It was written by Bill Kenner and Mark Wright, released in 1983, on the Epic label. The album was called, “Paradise”.

I really like this song because it has good music and lyrics. I remember it most from hearing it on the radio, and also from playing it on our record player. It was the summer we lived in Sinton TX, and were very close to the TX coast, by Corpus Christi. There was a hurricane coming, and I remember some preparations were being made around town, just in case it came our way. Turned out it didn’t get as close as we’d thought. This was a major hurricane named “Alicia”, and it came ashore at Galveston TX.

For some reason, along with watching TV hurricane coverage, we were playing this song over and over that day.

Here’s the actual 45 record we almost wore out, playing it so many times during the hurricane warnings. 🙂
