Apply to hold a task day or activity in a park
Doncaster Council and Get Doncaster Moving welcome support from residents who would like to help care for Doncaster's many parks and green spaces and are keen to help facilitate volunteers to look after these sites with us, and make use of Doncaster parks for community focussed activities.
If you would like to hold a volunteer task day, or carry out any conservation or general upkeep in a Doncaster Council owned park, please tell us about it using the form below. That way we can ensure that the correct permissions are put into place (to keep both you and others safe), your task/activity has insurance cover (may be your own or council provided depending on the task/activity - details below) and so that we can offer any other support.
If you haven't already submitted a risk assessment, you'll need to carry one out for your task or activity and attach a completed risk assessment to your application form (see below).
When can I expect a response?
Doncaster Council aim to respond within 10 working days. The majority of activities will receive approval within this time frame however, some larger activities may take longer if they need further consideration involving meetings and site visits etc.
All activities/tasks conducted within council-managed parks must have prior approval before being conducted.
Please note that this process is for volunteer tasks/activities only. If you are looking to host an event please visit the City of Doncaster Council's events page.
IMPORTANT: Public Liability Insurance
City of Doncaster Council public liability insurance covers volunteer activities on council land if ALL of the following apply:
• If you are assisting the council carrying out its business
• If you follow City of Doncaster Council policies and procedures for the job at all times
• If your activities have been agreed in writing by a relevant City of Doncaster Council, Street Scene staff member
• If you are supported on site by a relevant City of Doncaster Council, Street Scene or Countryside staff member.
Please note:
• All four of the above statements must apply, if this is not the case then your activity will not be covered by City of Doncaster Council's public liability insurance.
• You will not be covered for public events.
• You may be permitted to proceed with your activity if you have your own public liability insurance.
• If you are not covered by the City of Doncaster Council's public liability insurance and you do not have your own insurance, you may still be permitted to proceed with your activity. This will be assessed on an individual basis.
If you would like to find out whether the work of your group might be covered by City of Doncaster Council Public Liability insurance, contact Street Scene by emailing scene.street@doncaster.gov.uk
Why is Public Liability Insurance required?
Public liability insurance is essential to protect both volunteers and the council in the event of an accident, injury, or damage to property during an activity. If a member of the public or another participant is harmed, or if property is damaged as a result of the activity, this insurance helps cover legal costs and compensation. It ensures that volunteers are not personally liable and that any claims can be managed responsibly and fairly.
