Don’t Blame Schumer for Failure to Pass Trump Nominees

The failure to pass nominees rests with McConnell and Thune. The GOP closed up shop regardless of the hostage efforts of Schumer for his bribe offers and Trump ending the so-called negotiations that never needed to take place. Let’s take a look at Bunks previous post back in November 25 2024. Don’t count on McConnell changing any rules, and thanks Thune for not adjourning so Trump could make interim appointments.

Thune kissed the ring of McConnell as we learn, in order to take over as Senate Leader.

McConnell Takes Control of Two Most Powerful Committees as he Steps Down as Leader

Thune AKA Paul Ryan 2.0. Trading one master for another. While we celebrated the GOP taking control of the Senate this past election, one has to wonder how far did we come in ridding ourselves of the worst elements that stymied Trump his last go around. It turns out that the old fool McConnell has cut himself a sweet deal in keeping his cold almost dead hands on control of the Senate.

While he may have turned leadership over the Senator Thune, McConnell instead will be in control of the two most powerful committees in the Senate. Maine’s Senator Collins will be right there along side of him taking control of the full Appropriations Committee, another one who with her side kick Murkosksi from Alaska, are thorns in the GOP side

Maine Sen. Susan Collins currently holds the top Republican slot on the Defense Subcommittee, which drafts the Pentagon’s annual spending bill, worth $825 billion.

Collins is expected to become chairwoman of the full Appropriations Committee next year and McConnell said in the statement he looks forward to working with her “to accomplish our shared goal.”

It wasn’t immediately clear Thursday if Collins would become chairwoman of one of the Appropriations Committee’s other 11 subcommittees.

McConnell will also take over the Senate Rules Committee, one of the oldest panels in the chamber that holds a broad jurisdiction.

The GOP Senate members elected Thune by secret ballot just 24 hours after they got into town.

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who backed Scott on the first ballot, tried to convince his colleagues Tuesday to postpone the leadership election until later in November to give Trump and his team more time to weigh in on the race.

“We’re not even in town for 24 hours. I told them, ‘I’m offended by that.’ I think quite honestly that’s outrageous. They’re just trying to jam this down everybody’s throat,” Johnson said of the decision to hold the Senate election less than 24 hours after senators convened again in Washington after the Nov. 5 nationwide election.

The Hill

These people are everything wrong with America Yet somehow Mitch McConnell has just been handed one of the highest position in Government where he can block Donald Trump’s agenda I honestly don’t even have words to describe this.

Here is the man of the hour

And a hush falls upon the noisy city. The worst of the swamp.

On a personal note Bunk struggles on with efforts to come back to full force. Posts will occur as I am able to rise to the occasion. Many thanks for all your prayers and good wishes. Much peace.

Senator Mike Lee Exposes Schumer, McConnell, Johnson, and Jeffries Secretly Spending 85 Days Crafting the 1,547 Abomination

Troubled waters for the GOP ahead with the attempted sell out by Johnson in trying to dump 1500 pages of pork on the House. Speaker Johnson, all cozy with Trump these past weeks. He spent time with Trump at Mar a Lago, the Army Navy game etc. and didn’t say a word about the 1,547 page abomination that he’s been working on for weeks.

Image

Mike Lee:
Schumer, McDonald, Johnson, Jeffrey—the firm. They did this. Okay, McDonald and Schumer cooked this up for the last 85 days in secret, dropped it on everybody Wednesday, and this is where we are.

There is a word for that.

Gateway Pundit:

In a fiery appearance on Jesse Watters’ Primetime, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) pulled back the curtain on what he calls a “historic betrayal of the American people.”

Lee accused Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) of secretly negotiating a bloated $1.7 trillion spending bill behind closed doors for nearly three months.

Lee revealed that the controversial legislation had been in the works for 85 days without the public’s knowledge, an act he characterized as an affront to transparency and accountability.

Senator Lee predicted dire consequences for those involved, specifically targeting Speaker Mike Johnson’s hold on power.

Too many have too much at stake.

Need more proof of his sell out? A portion of a post of Bunk back in April, 2024.

Paul Ryan Praises Speaker Johnson for Allowing Democrats to Seize House

Paul Ryan, a member of the Fox Corporation Board of Directors, praised House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) for permitting Democrats to seize control of the House last week.

Democrats steamrolled Johnson by successfully pushing Biden administration’s agenda through the House. Johnson gave Biden “pretty much everything” Biden asked for “without having to concede much in return,” Punchbowl reported.

Johnson “found his footing, and his voice. … [H]e did it as a statesman, risking his own personal political fortune for the greater good that he believes in,” Ryan told Axios Tuesday.

The former House Speaker’s opinion appears to represent the mainstream establishment opinion of Johnson’s historic maneuver, but it does not represent many conservatives.

“A party unable to bring its agenda to the floor for a vote is no longer a functional majority,” Brendan Buck, a top staffer to Ryan, recently wrote in a New York Times op-ed.

Ryan’s comment comes as he holds significant influence within the Fox Corporation Board of Directors. Ryan, a board member since March 2019, serves as the chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee at the Fox Corporation.

Keep an eye out over in the Senate. McConnell is not done yet nor is he going quietly in that dark night. Nothing will move in the Senate without his support.

The Sly Old Foxes – McConnell and Schumer. Is the Border Bill Really Dead? UPDATE: Schumer Holds Procedure Vote this PM,Now voting on Ukraine, Israel

Update IV:

JUST IN: Senate Advances $95B Foreign Aid Bill for Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and Taiwan, Omitting Border Security Provisions — Here are the 17 GOP Senators Who Voted with Democrats

In a 67-32 cloture vote, the Senate crossed party lines, with several RINO senators joining Democrats to move the foreign aid bill forward. The bill is still in play. This is not a stand alone bill. Amendments will be forthcoming.

UPDATE III  Schumer is back at it… exactly as planned. VOTING NOW ON SUPPLEMENTAL FOR ISRAEL UKRAINE AND TAWAIN. The trap is set. Schumer lost. He could only get to 58 BUT the bill is still in play. Last I heard they were working on amendments to the bill including the border in order to bring the whole bill forward and get to 60.

Update II.  Procedural vote defeated. I am surprised Schumer brought it forward.

UPDATE: Procedural vote this afternoon. Schumer forges ahead.

Washington —

Although Senate Republicans appeared resigned to oppose the procedural vote to open debate, with the conference in large part either opposing the border deal released on Sunday or seeking more time to review it, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer planned to forge ahead with the vote on Wednesday.

“For the security of America at the border, for the security of Ukraine and Israel, we’re going to keep at it,” Schumer told reporters on Tuesday. “We will move further forward. Stay tuned.”

Indeed, Schumer appears to have a backup plan — to put the other elements of the supplemental funding package up for a procedural vote should the broader package that includes the border security agreement fail, according to a Democratic aide. Outside of the border elements, the national security supplemental includes military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, along with humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza. (Source)

Back to the story

It never was about aid to Israel. Not about Aid to Ukraine.

A package aimed at giving $17.6 billion to Israel failed to pass the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

It had been facing a veto threat from the White House, which is pushing for Congress to consider Israel aid as part of a larger $118 billion supplemental security package, along with pushback from GOP hard-liners who wanted the price tag offset by spending cuts elsewhere.

Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., unveiled the legislation over the weekend while blasting the Senate and White House for excluding the House from talks over a supplemental security funding and border policy bill.

….It ultimately failed to reach enough support, despite 250 lawmakers voting for it and 180 against. Forty-six Democrats voted in favor of the bill while 166 voted against. On the Republican side, 14 lawmakers voted down the Israel aid and 204 voted for it.

… (Aid to Israel)

“After nearly four months of waiting for the Senate to act, House Republicans, working in good faith, placed a clean, standalone bill on the floor — a major concession we were willing to make given the gravity of the situation to address Democrats’ stated concerns with the prior aid package,” the speaker said.

“Democrats have been unable to present any substantive policy objection in the current legislation. It is clear they are now committed to using Israel aid as leverage to force through other priorities that do not enjoy nearly the same degree of consensus. Leveraging Israel aid as it fights for survival is wrong. The White House and congressional Democrats should be ashamed.”

Here are Bunks thoughts. I am no expert on procedures but from what I gathered from Fox’s Maria Bartiromo and her concerns to Speaker Johnson. She referenced a story in Axios.

So the deal? Watch now for a resurrection. Amendments to the bill. Take up the “supplemental” Israel Ukraine portion of the bill. Once done and voted upon, no longer the 60 votes are needed, it moves to the House for “compromise”  where we have already seen how dicey that can be with the impeachment vote yesterday of Majorkas.  A miracle occurs and the majority of the Border portion of the bill magically reappears since there have been amendments.

You keep hearing how Schumer keeps saying “we need to take up the supplemental bill.” Why else did the Dems vote against aid to Israel yesterday if its so important? Why else does Biden insist the two bills be tied together?
And our rubber neck McConnell the old fox? Wouldn’t trust him one bit.

Just for giggles, Schumer shows his hand and angst with our favorite gal, Mika over at MSNBC… first three minutes tells you what it’s all about. Chuckie boy, why do we need these bills are wrapped up on one big package? An inquiring mind here.

McConnell Warns Against Biden impeachment as He Enriches Himself With China

McConnell warns House GOP on Biden impeachment: ‘Not good for the country’ so goes the NY post headline. One asks, not good for the country or not good for Mitch and his wife Elaine Chao. The Federalist lays out the ties that he and his wife have with China. It has been a wink and a nod by the GOP but as we know the Orange Man is not shy in calling out the swamp.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has gently nudged his Republican counterparts in the House of Representatives to pump the brakes on chatter of impeaching President Biden.

“I said two years ago, when we had not one but two impeachments, that once we go down this path it incentivizes the other side to do the same thing,” McConnell told the New York Times in an interview published Tuesday.

“Impeachment ought to be rare,” he added. “This is not good for the country.”

The Federalist picks up the story:

For years, the McConnell and Chao families have cultivated a relationship that enriches the couple and grants status to the Chaos’ shipping company.

For decades, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao have maintained a glaring conflict of interest, conducting extensive government business despite the Chao family’s deep ties to China through a maritime shipping company. Now, former President Donald Trump is calling attention to the top Republican’s problematic China ties, while most of Washington remains silent.

“Why do Republicans Senators allow a broken down hack politician, Mitch McConnell, to openly disparage hard working Republican candidates for the United States Senate[?]” Trump asked in a Truth Social post on Sunday. “This is such an affront to honor and to leadership. He should spend more time (and money!) helping them get elected, and less time helping his crazy wife and family get rich on China!”

Trump’s criticism of McConnell and Chao, however, is not something to be taken lightly. For years, the McConnell and Chao families have maintained a symbiotic relationship that grants opportunities to the Chaos’ shipping company, Foremost Group, which largely operates in and on behalf of communist China.

This reciprocity is well documented, but unlike with Hunter Biden, there is less scrutiny from observers, including those on the right, for this “corruption by proxy,” as author and Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer calls it.

This trend of the Chao family expanding their influence in China only continued as McConnell and his wife burrowed deeper into the American political system. When Trump named Chao head of the Department of Transportation in January of 2017, her family publicly rejoiced — likely at the opportunity to further their business interests. That same month, Chao’s sister Angela was named independent non-executive director of the CCP-affiliated Bank of China.

As much as Pelosi was notable in controlling her outfit in the House, Mitch was more than happy to do the same on the Senate side. Cross him, it has been reported, and funding for your next campaign may be hard to find.

These relics in congress whose grift knows no bounds, need to move on out. Surprisingly it appears more voters seem to be catching on that there is this thing called voting that requires them to actually be the one to pull the plug on these fine fellows.

As far as just a Biden impeachment inquiry? iIs looking pretty sparse in vote approval. The GOP has managed to get themselves down to a 4 vote majority. Enough of the House members live off the largess of the swamp to preclude much inquiry into its machinations.

McCarthy will soldier on. We will gather more bits and pieces but as they say –

If a Tree Falls in the Forest, and There’s No One Around to Hear It, Does It Make a Sound?

I wouldn’t count on the media blowing any horn on this.

Don’t let the door hit you – whatever Mitch

Is McConnell Willing to Throw the GA Walker Race to Get Trump?

The operative sentence in this story is “That’s why it should come as absolutely no surprise that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told CNN that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will be working together to stop “MAGA Republicans.” Hershel Walker, the GOP candidate for Senator, is in a runoff for the seat in GA. The question- is he included in the “Stop MAGA Republicans.”

It’s been clear that as far as the Senate is concerned, McConnell was willing to do whatever was required to insure that he maintained his leadership position. If it cost a seat or two, no problem. His shifting millions of dollars in and out of senate races when it appeared the candidate might go rogue told us all we needed to know.

No use beating that dead horse itemizing his nastiness. Only one story needs to be told. The giving $9 million dollars to the Lisa Murkowsky race when she was running against a fellow GOPer, but a conservative, so the truth was revealed. She had always told McConnell she would have his back.

This brings us to the business of Hershel Walker and his run off race over the next three weeks. Will McConnell support Walker and give him the funding that he needs? And how much true energy will be put into it by the establishment? How much do they really want to get Trump?

Was a deal struck with Schumer? If Walker loses, a full majority will then go to the Democrats. It has been reported its “Too much in the weeds” to discuss what will happen. Well its not.

If the Democrats gain a full majority they will gain subpeona power. A 50-50 split has hearings only if both sides agree.

Just think of two full years of MAGA hearings regarding Trump. Non stop. A complicit media will faithlessly report anything negative out every night on the evening news. It’s up for grabs if they can require Trump to testify, either way they would give it one heck of a try.

This would probably destroy Trump and fellow MAGAs. Diminish other GOP House and Senate members that supported Trump.

In addition, a 50-50 divide insures that there are an equal number of GOP and Dems on Committees. No longer true if they have an absolute majority.

So how much do they really want to destroy Trump and his MAGA friends in congress? How much dishonesty can even anti-Trumpers really find acceptable on the GOP side? Willing to throw the majority to the Dems to get Trump?

The joyous GOP House, looking forward to hearings on all kinds of malfeasance especially the Bidens, will be easily overshadowed by any Senate hearing on MAGA Trump and his minions.

I pick up this story from MCRTV:

Chuck Schumer Says He Intends to Work with Mitch McConnell to Stop ‘MAGA Republicans’

What’s the old saying? ‘Birds of a feather flock together?’ I’m pretty sure that’s how that one goes. In any case, if you’ve been paying attention to politics over the last, oh, 30 years or so, you could see a correlation and unity between Republicans and Democrats who don’t like their power or establishment agendas challenged.

That’s why it should come as absolutely no surprise that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told CNN that he and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will be working together to stop “MAGA Republicans.”

Whether you’re a “MAGA Republican” or not, a move like this should encourage you a bit because the establishment elite clearly see a group of people that aren’t members of the “Uniparty” coming for their cushy positions among the Washington elite.

After CNN co-host Kaitlan Collins asked Schumer on Monday if he’s going to “talk to Mitch McConnell,” the senior senator from New York stated that he’s going to try and do more than just talk.

We certainly know how 80 year old McConnell feels about the Trump supported candidates. Add Especially Trump. From day one he has castigated the “quality” of some of the candidates running. He claims now his wisdom as he so wisely foretold this conclusion. Forget that he played a heavy hand in aiding the loss of a number of seats.

All is well in the swamp.

Liz Cheney: ‘We really had a terrific vote tonite’ upon remaining in leadership

Only the GOP would keep someone in leadership who has a 13% approval rating among her own voters.

91% of Republican voters would vote for President Trump again today.
Only 13% of Wyoming Republicans would vote for Liz Cheney again.
Republican lawmakers could not care less.

Liz Cheney:  We really had a terrific vote tonight, a terrific time this evening.  Laying out what we’re going to do moving forward as well as making it clear that we’re not going to be divided and that we’re not going to be in a situation where people can pick off any member of leadership.

Liz Cheney

She spoke to reporters after selling out our orange man. McCarthy and McConnell very happy. The vote was 145-61. Wow. It really is a death cult as opposed to us Trumpsters.

And thus a third party was born.

And that indeed is the very best the swamp has to offer.

Another turkey spending bill known as a CR passes

Frankly I am sick of all of it. How come when the Dems had the majority they could always manage to figure out a way to get bills through even though they didn’t have 60 or a super majority?  So Reid blackmails the GOP in giving them everything they want. Somehow Reid gets it done. But McConnell that old turkey neck? Held captive. And as for Trump? I am getting about as sick of him as one can get. Frankly, I don’t think after second thought he even wants the job the way he is acting. Recall my post from 2012

WASHINGTON — Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) pledged on Wednesday to change the rules of the Senate so that the minority party has fewer tools to obstruct legislative business. (The GOP is so annoying-don’t you just hate having three branches)?

But I digressed:

House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, is furious that yet another bloated bill to keep the government running was approved on Capitol Hill this week and he fears it will only set the stage for an even greater spending binge come December.

“Primarily, it’s not happening because in the Senate, Harry Reid won’t let the individual bills come up for a vote. That’s the way it’s supposed to work,” said Jordan. “He’s been able to win every fight by saying, ‘Look, I’m going to hold up defense spending until you give me the spending I want on domestic issues.”

“What that means is taxpayers get the short end. I think, frankly, our military gets the short end of that deal too and it’s just not good for the country,” said Jordan.

The Senate leaders coup that blocked public debate on Omnibus budget bill UPDATE

UPDATE: PASSES.

UPDATE: HERE’S THE ROLL CALL VOTE — HOUSE PASSES OMNIBUS SPENDING BILL

Here’s the

There are plenty of blogs out there that will give you the horrendous details that are starting to be revealed in the soon to be passed Ryan budget bill. So let me give you the coup that went down with McConnell at the helm to make sure we will never ever have a recorded vote on any amendments nor hear a word on the Senate floor in debate. That there would be not one Senator available to object. Here we go:. (Just a taste of of it)

ICYMI: In Omnibus, Congress Provides $1.6B to Resettle Illegal Immigrants Arriving at Border Through 2018

With a mere 68 seconds of almost incomprehensible Senate legalese, the two top Republican and Democratic leaders together blocked any budget amendments, televised debate and roll-call votes over the myriad unpopular or popular, effective, dysfunctional or counterproductive measures in the $1.1 trillion 2016 omnibus spending plan.

On Friday morning, likely at 10.00 a.m., $1.1 trillion in spending will be swept through the Senate in only a few minutes, without debate, public observation, record-keeping, cheering and especially without dramatic amendments and unpopular roll-call votes that would be tracked, counted, measured and replayed over and over again in 2016 attack ads.

The leaders’ surprise coup can be seen here, at 1.01 p.m, or 3.02:00 into this C-SPAN video, when Majority Leader Minority Leader, Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) jointly, quickly and quietly walked onto the Senate floor while a few other Senators were delivering minor speeches sought by their constituents or lobbyists.

“I see that the [GOP] Majority Leader and the Democratic leader are on the Senate floor and I believe it would be appropriate for me to yield to them,” said Maine Republican, Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)

“I ask unanimous consent that when the Senate receives a message from the House to accompany H.R. 2029, the Majority Leader be recognized to make a motion to concur on the House amendments, further that if a cloture motion is filed on that motion, that notwithstanding Rule 22, the Senate immediately vote on the motion to invoke cloture, that if cloture is invoked, all post-cloture time be yielded back, the Majority Leader or his Designate be recognized to make a motion to table the first House amendment, that following the disposition of that motion, and if a budget point of order is raised, the Majority Leader is designated to be recognized to make a motion to waive the point of order, and that following disposition of that motion and the Senate the vote on motion to concur on the House amendments with no further motions or amendments in order, unless the motion to table is successful, or the budget point of order is sustained, and with two minutes of debate, equally divided, in the usual form, prior to each vote.”

Is there…” asked the Senator presiding over the event, Sen. Deb Fischer (R-NE , Republican from Nebraska.

She was trying to ask if any Senator present objected to McConnell’s plan.

The leaders’ “unanimous consent” no-amendment, no-debate plan would fail if even one determined Senator was on the floor, and ready to withhold consent — perhaps Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), or Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), who had earlier promised to extend a debate —  but the two leaders had timed their coup perfectly, and there was no Senator there ready to object or withhold their consent.

“No objection,” quickly responded Reid, off-camera, before Fischer could even finish her sentence, and before any other Senator rushed through the doors to stop the entire process with a single objection.

“No objection, so ordered,” Fischer said.

That was it.
